...and if so are they worth buying? ( i already own 'Jane's Battles with the Luftwaffe')

'Clash of Eagles' by Martin Bowman

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51DlLD6lXIL._AA240_.jpg

'The Luftwaffe over Germany' (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Luftwaffe-Over-Germany-Defense-Reich/dp/customer-reviews/1853677124/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1&customer-reviews.start=1&qid=1200951479&sr=1-1#customerReviews) by Donald Caldwell & Richard Muller

I wonder if the Alfred Price who writes the 1st customer review (in the link) is the same Dr Alfred Price who did the Osprey: Late Marque Spitfire Aces book???

Schwarz.13,

I have read clash of eagles and it's good. I have not read your second choice but I have read other books by Donald Caldwell and if he's involved the book should be a good one.

Good hunting,

I own THE LUFT OVER GERMANY. Caldwell is the number 1 expert on JG26 (see his books on the unit). I haven't read it yet, but I have skimmed it, and what I've seen looks good. Caldwell does documentary research, he doesn't just plunder other books. I have confidence in all he does. As for "Alfred Price" being the well-known aviation historian, there is no way to tell. I couldn't disagree with what he wrote in that Amazon UK review.

Thanks for the replies.

I've just ordered the Donald Caldwell book http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'd like to have both TBH but i already have 'Jane's Battles with the Luftwaffe' and 'Wild Blue Yonder' by Martin Bowman and i'm not sure if 'Clash of Eagles' would be anything different...

That Caldwell book is a necessary buy. There isn't another book in English specifically about the conduct of the German daylight defense against the Allied strategic bombing campaign. The best book on the gestation of the American daylight bombing campaign from a flawed bomber-only concept to the hurried establishment of long-range fighter escorts for the bombers is TO COMMAND THE SKY: THE BATTLE FOR AIR SUPERIORITY OVER GERMANY, 1942-1944 by Stephen L. McFarland and Wesley P. Newton published by the prestigious Smithsonian. It is an absolute gem, a classic. It ends with the destruction of most of the last of the best in the Luftwaffe day fighter arm in the spring of 1944.
