A new sequel to the Atlantis games is coming out, Atlantis Evolution! It is supposedly less puzzle-based and more story-based than the previous games by The Adventure Company. I can't seem to find wether it's pre-rendered or realtime, but I'm assuming realtime judging from Adventure Gamers (http://www.adventuregamers.com/display.php?id=385) review and this (http://www.gametrailers.com/gt_vault/t_atlantis_ev_e3_2k4.html) trailer. It will be in first person, and the trailer is all cut-scenes, not actually gameplay. I have never played the Atlantis games, has anyone here?

I've played the other Atlantis. They are cute but a bit childish for my taste. But, considering the lack of adventure games on the market, I'd say sure, go ahead and buy it. You might like it.

I've seen the trailer for Beyond Atlantis II (it's called Atlantis III overseas) and the music in the trailer is incredible - I just love it. I've been trying to track down a copy, but hadn't been able to find one in any local shops. I picked up Omega Stone, a short while ago and it has an order form in it from DreamCatcher that has it on that so I'm going to use that to get it - at least I finally have a lead on one. I'd like to take a shot at the previous 2 but I'm pretty sure that they said on their site that they aren't compatible with XP.

Cierdwyn,

I've just bought the first 2 Atlantis games on ebay, so I'll let you know if they are XP compatible. It'll be a few weeks though.

Cheers.

Hi Grant,

Thanks, that would be great. I've been interested in the Atlantis series since I first saw it, but having purchased a couple of games (one was Beyond Time which was very nice looking) before I got my new computer and they just were not compatible at all - so now I get a little leary of purchasing games that don't specifically say XP on the box. So if you find out that they work, I'll be making yet another trip to eBay - not such a bad thing. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif Did you get any leads on another Forever Worlds?

I loved Beyond Atlantis. It was so wonderful I put it in the same category as the Myst games. I liked it better than Syberia. I wasn't that thrilled w/the sequel, Beyond Atlantis 2.

Hi,

I'm just in the process of downloading a demo for Alida from GameSpot. There may be other places with it, but that's where I'm getting mine from. I can hardly wait for it to finish so that I can have a go at it! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I don't know, the idea of explorinig a giant guitar sounds a little umm... creepy. I love music but I don't know if I love it that much. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing it. I just need a little more convincing. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

i've been able to play all three ATLANTIS games on my XP..... just saw the trailor for #4, can't they do a better job of human animation?????? they did fairly well in BEYOND ATLANTIS 2, but this new one looks like the same anime as in the first ATLANTIS! the story line looks good, so i'm excited, but i've been spoiled by MYST.... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif so am just a bit disappointed...

earthangell, really glad to hear that the first Atlantis games can be played on XP! I'll have to track down the first 2 and play them before Beyond Atlantis 2 arrives, so that I'll have them all in proper sequence. Thanks for the info!

Sri and I played a bit of the demo for Atlantis Evolution at E3 and it did look rather interesting ... enough so that I have considered buying it myself.

It is good to hear that Beyond Atlantis will play on XP ... cause even Dreamcatcher says it will not work. I did talk to them about a possible patch for Beyond Atlantis and was told that the original creators of this game were no longer around and that Dreamcatcher only distributed this game and so have no options for creating a patch at this time ... doesn't seem that this will be an option period. I will buy Beyond Atlantis anyway since reading this thread and try it myself.

Perhaps the ending has not yet been written!

I was doing a search on ebay for Myst items, and there is a whole slew of a game called "Bioscopia" up for bid. It looks sort of intriguing, although the box art makes it look really sci-fi, but the write up doesn't sound too bad. Has anyone heard of this game before? Or better yet played it?

Another adventure!

It sure looks intriguing, (from the Just Adventure review (http://www.justadventure.com/reviews/Bioscopia/Bioscopia_b.shtm)) graphics are excellent, surreality looks prevailant, it sounds more like a puzzle game than an adventure, (i.e. puzzles are in more obvious stages) but that was just my impression from a quick overview.

The world looks facinating with well-thought out features and modelled with some impressive detail. I think it would be a great game to play!
Sorry Cierdwyn, I know you you didn't as for a review http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif But the game looks awesome! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

I have it, as well as well as Physicus. If you like biology, then I'd recommend it. However, if you hate biology and long reads don't buy it. The puzzles aren't really anything to write home about, but they are hard in places. They are very information based, and very rarely clue based. Oh, and it's VERY sci-fi. Most of the game is finding pass cards to open yet another door. Here's (http://www.apple.com/games/trailers/bioscopia/)'s a link to the trailer on apple.com. I'd recommend it to anyone waiting on Revelation and interested in biology.

I have Chemicus, Physicus, and Bioscopia.(such original titles...http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif) I like all of them a lot, but it muight just be because I'm a bit of a brainiac. The graphics are good in all three, the controls are acceptable, the storyline OK, and the puzzles range from brain-racking to simple.

Can there ever be too many adventure games? I guess most people are here waiting for Myst IV, meeting up with old friends and trying to find some good games to share news about in the meantime

Some mentions of ALIDA above. Go for it! I played it on OS X last year and the PC version is just about to be released. Myst fans will see and hear plenty to be happy about on Cos Russo's island. One guy did the whole game, but you'd swear he must have a team of clones because it's quite impressive and also a fun, puzzle-filled adventure.Try it if you get the chance.

Thanks matt, the review is good - just what I was looking for. And the fact that others here have played it and enjoyed it, I'll have to see if I can't snag one off of eBay, they're not very much. If they've finished their first bid unsold, they'll just be relisted. I'm always up for a challenge and there's gonna' be that lag between Path of the Shell and Myst IV, may as well keep myself busy and out of trouble. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Well, after 14 and a half hours to download http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif ... I finished the Aura demo! It's SO cool!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

And it's beautiful - music and images - the puzzles seemed to be at a nice level of skill for solving ... difficult enough to keep my mind busy, but not enough to frustrate me - the cursor motion is very fluid and smooth - the images are gorgeous - I am SO getting this game when it comes out! Which is another great thing - they moved the release date from mid-July closer to, I think it's June 24 or 26th now! This will MORE than compensate for the wait for PotS - plus it looks like it may be a force to reckon with on it's own. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Hi everyone,

I picked up Beyond Atlantis and Beyond Atlantis II. First of all, these are REALLY good games - both of them, and especially the first one - I really enjoyed them a lot and felt really satisfied with the puzzles and the endings. They have gorgeous graphics in them and the first one had the loveliest music in it. I started on a beautiful little Irish island and it was just so pretty and had such amazing music set to it.

And the really great news was that Beyond Atlantis - which by Adventure Company Games own site is NOT supposed to work on Windows XP at all - worked perfectly ... even better than Beyond Atlantis II, which had a few glitchies, one of which required downloading and installing a patch for. Anyway, thought that I would pass this info along to those who were interested in these games. Now I've got to track down a copy of the original Atlantis - the one with Seth in it. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

BTW - Based on how good these games were, I'm really looking forward to the release of Atlantis Evolution, now. Ahh ... it's a been stellar year for really great adventure games so far. What with Aura due out next week, heck, it's only going to go up from here! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I was actually surprised by how much I liked the Beyond Atlantis games. I've played a lot of the Adventure Company games lately and although they are mostly a good way to pass the time, I'm not always satisfied by the way they play or of the way they end. Just leave me with a general feeling of not quite satisfied even though I ate a big meal. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Forever Worlds is a great example of a game that, despite what I'd seen about it, was without a doubt THE stupidest game I've ever played. Mind you it had some great graphics in some areas - like in the butterfly prison (looks like a beautiful hotel) and in the back maintainers hallway - but that wasn't nearly enough to make up for an entirely idiotic game, lame story, cutscenes that come out of nowhere and take over the story, and overall disjointed puzzles. And that ending - if I hadn't grabbed the gameplay booklet out of the box to see what just happened, I wouldn't have even been sure why the game was ending. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif I had looked for this game for months and wasted an entire afternoon (not exactly an overly challenging game either http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif ) - time that I will NEVER get back - hoping that at some point it would all come together and make sense. It never did. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif I doubt even the brilliant minds at Cyan could have saved that one ...

After all that, the Beyond Atlantis games were a really nice surprise and more than made up for that ridiculous mess. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I had actually like the screens that I had seen at GameBoomers for Forever Worlds, and the trailer wasn't too bad - except for the lame voice over ... which I now know I should have taken as a sign http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif ... - so I thought it might be worth a shot. Boy was I wrong! I cannot believe someone ... anyone ... walked away from any portion of the production of that game and felt a sense of satisfaction in a job well done ... that THIS was worth all the work and was the look they were going for. Talk about lowered expectations http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif . I have to wonder if anyone at Adventure Company even saw the product before deciding to promote and sell it. Probably a case of the CEO's half-brothers', idiot 3rd cousin, 3 times removed wanting to break into the gaming business ... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif

Cierdwyn, my sentiments exactly. Forever Worlds should receive a vote for one of the worst games to be released this year. Not only is the game lame, a character takes a ride with you throughout the playing time that is so annoying you just want to stop play.
There are also game play issues for anyone with a particular OS that wasn't addressed until well after the games release. This should have beed discovered before releasing to retail.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> ... a character takes a ride with you throughout the playing time that is so annoying you just want to stop play. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>Oooh ... I had forgotten about that little pain in the "hinderend". Who thought THAT was a good idea?! As if the game didn't have enough annoyances - why not toss in a wisecracking lizard? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

About the only thing it had going for it was I didn't have too many glitches with the game - had a reddish/orange stereo screen in the maintainers office though - kinda' like a weird double negative. Sorta' threw my game off http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif ... yeah right.

You know Boshettee, I really did try to get into that game, but it's just so ... I don't know - it's like it's half not there, I always felt like I was missing something. Cut scenes jumping in, and half the time you're not sure what you just did - that ending was the worst for that. So many puzzles were there for the sake of puzzles and had no rhyme or relevance to the game. And the story - it HAD potential ... it was just poorly executed. Well, someone should have been for that one - or at least received a public flogging. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif It's the perfect example of what you wind up with when the production values are set really, really low. I just can't figure out how it ever made it into the publics hands - wasn't anyone paying attention to what was going into that game?! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

Yes, his 'album'. I can't understand how he was able to afford a studio. Obviously the musicians recorded the music first and then he sang over the music later on. There's no way any musician could play correctly or keep a straight face during his singing.

I remember the first time I heard that sound eminate from the TV. My dog was curled up sleeping away from it - slowly, in one fluid movement, her head came up and she turned to look at the place where that sound was coming from, and she had the strangest, confused look on her face. I turned to comment to my husband - and he had the SAME look on HIS face! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif That did it ... I was gone ... off into a fit of laughing that I couldn't get control of. And well into the next day, whenever that image popped into my head, I'd start laughing all over again. Still makes me giggle. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Did you ever hear Steven Segal when he decided that he was going to put together a country band? Pretty much the same sound coming out of him ... except, with his ego, he really thought he was quite good and was awfully proud of himself. There are just some voices that should NEVER be raised in song ... and his is one of them. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Really, I'm waiting for delivery. I pre-ordered this and it hasn't arrived yet. Some stores have it on the shelves in my area, at least that is what I've been told, but ordering directly from TAC takes longer, go figure.

The Bit thing, I decided to see how long it would take if I were to download it and I couldn't believe it when it started and said 2128MB--142.46hrs I stopped that download quickly.

Cierdwyn, This is with broadband!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

There are so few people that have the file available and such a high demand that even with high speed internet it will take this long! Thanks Ze Pedro. One thing about TAC, they consistently release B games. Never quite A caliber and not extremely bad except Forever Worlds which, IMO, was a real dog.

The screens kinda remind me of another game I enjoyed, only it was an A game.

Hi Ze Pedro, haven't seen you around lately, nice to know you're still here. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif Sentinel looks pretty good. I like the GameBoomer screenies - I can never get the screens at TAC to scroll and I'm stuck on one. As soon as I read the preview I had thought it sounded a bit like the Schizm storyline - turns out it is made by the same people. It'll be one to keep an eye on.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif Boshettee, I absolutely agree with you about Adventure Company games! That's a perfect assessment of them. There are a couple that are better than the lot (I especially loved Beyond Atlantis - thought it was first rate ... same with Omega Stone) and then of course you have Forever Worlds ... truly in a class by itself http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif and one I'd tell anyone to save themselves a load of time, irritation and money by buying something ... anything ... else. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

'Morning Ze Pedro, http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I go through times like that, too. Nothing much to post so just lurk and read. I'm not sure why, but I've been more involved with the off-topic forums lately. And you are right, it's been a great year so far, for adventure games! And new possibilities popping up every other week or so. Speaking as an adventure game junky - and I know I'm not the only one around here http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif - it's just great to have such a good selection for a change. There are times when there's just nothing new or worthwhile to pick up ... then there are times like now when you can't wait to get your hands on any number of good games ... with the Myst series being at the very top of the list of "got to haves". And of course Revelation being at the very tip top - sort of the crowning glory of a great year in adventure gaming. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

And I know what you mean about that moment of opening a new game - especially one that I've been wanting so badly! The box is all fresh and sealed and perfect. Mmmm ... I could hardly wait to make it home yesterday! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif The game's going great so far ... I finished the beginning age - Ademica Valley - and am about halfway through second - Dragast. Puzzles aren't too bad at all ... some are quite easy, some I've just futzed my way through - I always like those for some reason, they're very intuitive and I enjoy that. Then there have been a couple that I've used process of elimination to solve as I couldn't think of any better way to do them, which can be time consuming. And some are a bit tougher, I was up until 2:39am messing about with that last puzzle in Dragast - I think I figured out how it goes, but I was so tired I decided to leave it until today when I could have at it with a fresh mind.

On top of that, it's a beautiful game - beautiful, haunting music (and in Dragast there ARE elements in the music that DO sound like Exile) - and gorgeous images . I stood on the bridge in Dragast and looked down through the clouds - it's very well done! You're all going to love it. I'm already hoping they make a series of it. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif Some - not all, but some - of the voice acting could be a little better, but you get that with most of these games ... it's a shame though, because some games would be so much better if they took as much time in choosing the voice actors as they did in creating the images.

Hi,

I finished Aura a little while ago. IMHO - It's a darned fine game! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif Some of those puzzles kept me awake trying to figure out what little thing I missed or just exactly how to do what I'd figured I needed to do. I had a great time with it and NO help! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I'm pretty happy with that. Plus, it seems to be set up with a sequel in mind, if that ending cutscene is anything to go by ... and that suits me just fine!

Hello Cier,

that was quick work! Tell me - do you use nudges or walkthrough's? I'm afraid I have to - as much as I tell myself not to.

I've just started Syberia, I thought it was going to be a bit .....errrr ...... "girly".... so I haven't bothered before. Boy was I wrong! It's great and I've just picked up Syberia 2 on ebay for a good price.

Cheers.

Hi Grant, http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif You didn't happen to notice any good deals on Forever Worlds did you? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Isn't Syberia a great game? I loved them both, they are really a well told interactive novel, with an interesting storyline and nifty puzzles and quests to boot. I really hope that you enjoy them. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif Benoit Sokal has a new game in the works called Lost Paradise, that looks quite interesting, too.

With Aura I didn't use any hints - though I confess with the planets alignment puzzle I did go looking for a walkthrough! That was NOT an easy puzzle (and I got hung up spinning the cannisters in the mill cave - I thought it was a puzzle, but wasn't http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif ), but there were NO walkthroughs anywhere out there - I even checked out a couple of forums (at Gamespot and GameBoomers) and no one had any real help posted. So after sleeping on it over night and going at it with a fresh mind, it hit me almost as soon as I looked at it. Made me kinda' glad that I hadn't found one after all. This way I can truly say that I did it all on my own. Truth is though - I often head screaming in frustration for a walkthrough. As SillyEagle says ... the games stop being fun when they start being frustrating.

Cier,

you should write up a walkthrough for www.uhs-hints.com (http://www.uhs-hints.com) . They will pay for original work. Full details are on the site.

I paid for and downloaded the stand-alone version and it's a great little nudge program (although it can be a little too convenient at times).

Cierdwyn
07-05-2004, 10:30 AM
Grant, I read that Forever Worlds article - http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif - take Franks name off of it and put mine - that's a perfectly accurate description of that game! There's comfort in knowing that I wasn't the only one who wasn't sure what happened at the end. Wish I'd known that before I got it - those are hours I'll never get back. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif I've never done a walkthrough before - not sure if I've got the knack, as I've never considered trying it.

Matt, they do call them ages, but they're not really - I don't think in the same sense as they are in Myst. Ademica Valley, Dragast, Na-tiexu and the Island of Unity (which is really the set up for a sequel, I'm sure!) are all part of the same world and timeframe - you travel between them on a little airship. Na-Tiexu, though, is more "age-like", in that - you arrive in your airship, then you enter a building with 4 large toning "mirrors" that are the keys to each of the seasons. Once you solve the tuning fork puzzle - and let me add that that is one of THE coolest puzzles I have EVER solved in any adventure game - you are able to access the 4 seasons one at a time, as you have to collect an item that represents each. The seasons are each a puzzle that gives you an item to solve one other puzzle. What goes beyond Myst, is that you get the entire story from the beginning, with all that occurs in your initial travels. You are given the backstory and you know why you are doing what you are doing and that it is leading somewhere.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif And I'm not quite ready to part with Aura yet. I'm thinking that it may rank up there with those few that I like to hang onto, like my Myst and Syberia games.

Hi Matt, http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I realise that this is Myst-fan stuff, and frankly I've been to a load of those sites and, although they are lovely little fan homages to the Myst game, I haven't been much impressed with them. This one has some lovely screens, wallpapers and even has a trailer. Plus it seems to be being put together by some people who have worked in the gaming industry. I'm sorta' hoping that it'll come together in a better than average way and at least be a nice online Myst diversion, so I've joined their forum to keep an eye on it as it comes along. Here (http://ilathid.losing-ground.net) is the link to the entire site so that you can have a good look around - the storyline is just a small part of what's there.

Now ... while that trailer is loading ... darned dialup http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif .

What is the 7th Guest series about? I've seen a few people post about it being a favorite game of theirs, but I don't really know anything about it. And with a 3rd installment on the horizon, it must have something going on with it.

There are a number of new adventure games coming along now. Gameboomers has some screen shots for "Lost Paradise" - from the same people who graced us with the Syberia series, with another intrepid female heroine. "Nibiru: Messenger of the Gods" looks great and sounds very interesting. And the last one that's really got my interest up, is "Return to Mysterious Island", and has amazingly realistic screens for it. As near as I can tell they are all due out by the end of this year. Looks like it'll be a very merry Christmas for me ... HO ... HO ... HO ... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Cier,

I know a lot of people hated "The 7th Guest", but I loved it. It was the first computer game I played - for the old DOS, not Windows. I wish they would release a Windows version. It's basically a solve-this-puzzle-after-puzzle-in-the-rooms-of-this-haunted-mansion game, with very little story. But the graphics were kind of pretty and the music beeeeautiful. There was a sequel called "The 11th Hour" but I never played it.

I'm really looking forward to this 3rd part now that I've seen they're using the original soundtrack.

7th Guest was definitely worth a try. I hated doing some of the 'typical' puzzles. I think Shivers & Phantasmagoria were better.
The way you moved around in 7th was fun the 1st time around, but it got tiresome if you were familiar with it & wanted to get somewhere fast. The live action cutscenes were fun.

11th Hour was more of the same but a bit better as far as I can remember.

Aaaa, Phantasmagoria, never played it but it brings back memories of Sierra's stuff. You know what I miss? The old OLD Sierra RPG games. That typing interface was amazing compared to that point and click stuff http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif

No, I'm not talking about text based but the old Police Quest 1, Quest for Glory 1 style where you run around with a graphical interface but typed in your commands rather than clicked.

These games sound really cool. You know, I've had computers for over 15 years and I've never played any of these types of games ... yeesh ... sometimes I feel like I lived in a cave somewhere in the backwoods someplace. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

It'd be nice if they'd re-make some of them - for nostalgic sake - so that people who loved them could enjoy them again, and those who never discovered them originally could take a crack at them now.

I don't know what verison you played, but the Syberia (I) that I went through had the most aggrevating, dumbed down puzzles that I've had the displeasure of being apart of. The train station at the beginning of the game was utter trash--why, oh why, do you need to torture gamers like that? Routine tasks should be done the first time around not made into a progression of events which != puzzle.

Because of that puzzle in particular and others in that game in general I haven't even dared touch the sequel.

I realize that you may be joking--but do you remember the puzzle I'm talking about? I believe it had something to do with a) getting a ticket validated b) doing so in as many steps as possible. It did *not* have a challenging puzzle component.

Please, it doesn't take intelligence to realize when something is overcomplicated. Your elitism is not appreciated.

I believe with the "puzzle" that you are speaking of ... it is a failsafe to make sure that everything is completed in the level before you move on, so that you don't wind up 2 levels past and realize that you missed something and have no way to go back - every level is that way. Basically the train won't leave until you have completed every task. If you kept getting sent away by Oscar, then there was something somewhere that you missed. Simple as that.

I come into an adventure game thread. I like playing adventure games. I voice my dissatisfaction with Syberia. You suggest that I try something less 'cerebral.' If that's not subtle elitism that I don't know what is.

As far as that first level in Syberia goes, I completed everything just fine, but I'm not here to prove my 'aptitude', mate, I'm just here to find out what else is good since at the moment the Adventure industry is underadvertised and copies of good games are in limited supply.

Maybe you're being hammered because you aren't that kind to begin with. Quit making assumptions about other people's intellect, style, and telling them what to play and you won't have someone who isn't pleased with you.

I thoroughly enjoyed both Syberia games. It all depends on how you view them. I consider them to be a story first and a puzzle game second.

As for Oscar and the train - I laughed and laughed every time I had to get something else. It was like an episode of "Yes, Minister". Total buraucracy.

I'd even go so far as to say they are better than the Myst series - and they are the benchmark.

Cheers.

I hadn't checked this thread in a while, sorry Cierdwyn.

Syberia I and II were both great games, IMO. Yeah, some back and forth and if it wasn't that then there would be some other tedium task. This is inherent in all games these days.

These days, what am I saying? It IS in all games. That is one aspect of adventure games I like. It must be done correctly or you do not advance.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>It did *not* have a challenging puzzle component. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

That was the challenging component, going back and forth. I agree that this can be frustrating, at least it often times is for me, but I still enjoyed the game for what it is, a game.

The only problem I have with Syberia I & II, or any game for that matter, is buying immediately upon release instead of waiting a couple of months when the price drops. I just can't help myself. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

I feel like I've wandered into any one of a number of other forums that I happened into, when looking for help with Aura, that were just like this one is becoming. If they answered you at all they were flat out rude - and very cliquey, talking amongst themselves and ignoring everyone else. I wonder why they are giving your credit card such a hard time? I'm sure they'll be able to work something out. I sent an international money order for 5.95 US dollars via express post - it took a week to get my Authorisation key - (and cost me 10bucks more for the postage) but has been well worth it. Maybe you'll have to do something like that.

So, when you DO get on, we've been on the Tapestry shard (by we I mean my daughter and I) as Cierdwyn and Madcat. We are joined with the Uru Obsession neighborhood. And I'll definately be looking for you. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif You will be amazed at how many people from these forums are there. I've seen Elkae, Ashtar, Mowog, AFGNCAAP, Greypiffle and a few others names pop up too, but have not yet had a chance to speak to them.

Tapestry has had some big problem last night - possibly from another imported avatar, but it went down 9ish our time and was still unavailable this morning at 8:30. Were you on Tapestry last night? I stuck around until 9:30 Atlantic time (I'm in Nova Scotia and I'm not sure how that translates to your time zone) and I didn't see a Ze Pedro turn up any where in the city. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/cry.gif

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif You ARE on as Ze Pedro aren't YOU?! You haven't decided to adopt a new alter ego have you - 'cuz it'll lower the odds of me tracking you down. Not that I don't enjoy a challenge from time to time, but ... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I'll put your KI # in my buddy list - that should simplify things somewhat. If I survive the 16 year old's birthday party http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif , I plan to hit the tavern ... er ... um ... I mean the cavern after 7PM here. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I'll be looking for you ... Cier http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Are you in the same time zone of Halifax? In that case we're in exactly the same time zone. I'm in Porto Alegre, same time zone as Sao Paulo.

I've checked it HERE (http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/)
This is a nice site to add to your favorites. Gives you the current local time around the world so you don't have to make calculations and check for daylight savings corrections. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I'll take a stroll around the city at about 8PM, I guess. If we don't meet again, don't worry. I'm sure we'll bump into each other one of these nights. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

And, yes, I'm zepedro online.

I have been reading on these boards of some interest in the game Alida. I am currently trying to work this game and it is difficult. Also, it is a throw-back to earlier adventure games but with a little more animation.

Anyway, here's a link to a review for those interested.

So, Boshettee, you're saying that it's way more challenging than that simple little "drop the black keys" puzzle in the demo? EXCELLENT!!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif I don't like my games so difficult that I want put my computer through the window - but taking up to a couple of days to sort something out is reasonable - to me at least. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif I do enjoy it when, after wrestling with and sleeping on a tough puzzle, the "ah-ha!" solution kicks in ... it's very satisfying. I'll hopefully be happily solving the mysteries of Alida in a couple of days. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Ze Pedro, have you gotten back online at Tapestry, yet? We had a vault wipe, which means that you will have to re-create your avatar and get re-inducted into the institution hood ... reinstitutionalized as it were .. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif I watch for you whenever I'm on but haven't seen you since I got you into the hood. I hope you got your mom all settled in okay. Hope to see you soon ...

Cier,

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/heart.gif

Well, I'm not all done with my mom. Also, my aunt from Sao Paulo decided to move back to Porto Alegre, so who needs to help her? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif Right, me. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif

And my best friend underwent a nose job so in my free time I've been giving him a hand with the bandages. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif

All work and no play... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif

I'll get back online.... eventually.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif I finally got a copy of Alida today!! It wasn't an easy thing to find - let me just say that the employees at EBGames/Electronic Boutique couldn't find their backsides if they used both hands. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif I called before I went to pick up a copy of Silent Hill 4 (for the teenager!) and they informed me that Alida wasn't in, they didn't have it, had never heard of it and wouldn't even be able to order one as it wasn't even in their computer. Great ... no one else had it anywhere either. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif While there I wandered off to browse and there it was - in all it's glory - right next to Aura - on the rack. Even when I took it to the counter, the young pup insisted it wasn't in the computer - yet he looked something up on it in order to retrieve the actual game from the back room. Yeesh ... at least I was able to get it ... and am now a very happy camper. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

As my husband put it on the way home - his pockets were lighter, but the womenfolk were happy. When they're happy, they're quiet ... and he can't put a price on that ... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

How is everything going?

I am so tempted to get Dark Fall 1 & 2, even had them in my hands yesterday when I picked up Alida. They BOTH look good, but as I said in another thread - I couldn't even find my way out of the room where I started in the DF1 demo. I kind of figured if I couldn't sort that out, then I probably had no business attempting the game. Mean, stupid demo ... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Let me know how it goes.

IMO, DF2 is easier than Alida. For some reason, mental block most likely, I am having a very hard time with Alida. I've already finished DF2, which I had hoped would last me till Revelation, but now I am tackling Alida again. At the rate I am discovering things, Alida should last till the next millinium.

Cier,

Get DF1 and 2. You won't regret it. And DF1 is easier than you think. I remenber I had the same problem in the beginning of the game. I couldn't leave the train tracks (I think). Until I realized I had to climb some stairs to get to the platform. (oops, spoiler...) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I promise, with my gaming abilities on this one, I view it as less a spoiler and more a helpful hint from a gaming buddy. So thanks http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif .

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif Hmmm or maybe is it, you just don't want me coming here whining for help ... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Okay, based on the recommendations of the 2 of you, I'm gonna get these games. I did look for them locally today ... did not find them, but was able to get the brand spanking new Sims2 - Special DVD Edition to boot http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif - so the day wasn't a total wash out. What I'll do is, when I pick up my Myst IV from EBGames I'll grab those at the same time. It'll be one of those perfect selfindulgent days when I shop for me ... Wow, my husband won't know what hit his wallet http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif .

Thanks a bunch,

IMO... If anyone is considering purchasing this game be advised it is buggy and an absolute waste of money. I began playing the game and 2-3 minutes of this cr** is all I could stand.

Hi Cierdwyn,

I've calmed down, it's now safe for all to come out. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

There are many reviews of Wanted and unlike Forever Worlds some find the game acceptable. A few do not mind the graphic irregularities but for the price I expected better.

The game itself might be OK and fun for some but not for me and if I were to find this game in a bargain bin for $10 I would purchase it. As it is I just can't recommend it to anyone and feel cheated, but that's my emotions speaking. To be honest I spent the money knowing full well the inherent chances with any purchase.

Please do not let me dissuade an adventure fan. I will buy a game regardless of reviews and fan write-ups. (Should have listened though about Forever Worlds http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif)

I think we here in the Myst/Uru forums make our own minds up anyway. I think I will replay Revelation again http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

The adventure game "Atlantis Evolution" is now available. For those familiar with the Adventure Company, this is another release from them and game play is typical of their releases.

Also, the demo for "Return to Mysterious Island" is available from many sites. This is one:

I just finished "Return to..." and it's not a bad little game. Heavily inventory based with some going back and forth, but overall quite enjoyable.
I did not care too much for Atlantis Evolution, first half OK second half uck, but is worth picking up if found in the bargain bin.

Sentinel: Descendants in Time demo is available for download (181MB zip file). It appears to be in the same vein as Aura. Sentinel is scheduled to be released 12/7/04.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all.

I have just finished Sentinel and it's not a bad little game. Supposedly, it is a continuation of Mysterious Journey 2, aka: Schizm 2, but unlike Schizm the puzzles are not overly mathmatical in nature. Might make a nice Xmas stocking stuffer for someone. Of course, the best stocking stuffer would be Revelation!

I watched the demo for Aura. It looks like fun. I am a bit leery of a trailer that looks great only to have the game not measure up. Has anyone else played Aura?

Jade's Dream, Aura is very worthwhile playing. I enjoyed it very much while I was waiting for Revelation.
