@ ElAurens: Depends on which country you are in.
For example, UK release is 22.10.2004, while here in germany...

21.10.2004 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

So, at least for some european countries, I can tell you:

So am I to be lead to believe that this will be released earlier in europe than it will in the US? What could possibly be the reason for this (if it's true, of course)?

Seems to me that a simultaneous release would be advantageous to all parties involved...

But then, I'm no marketing genius...

just look at the Ubi sites, Europe is getting it first, sorry americans just face it. Anyway, the yanks get pretty much everything else before europe, about time europe got a treat. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

@ Snaphoo: I could also ask back why america gets most of the other games weeks / months (!) earlier than europe (Example: World of Warcraft - planned release in america is november; planned release europe is FEBRUARY). While I also would favor a global simultanous release, in reality this rarely happens.

@ weather man: UK release 22.10.2004 has already been confirmed; german release 21.10.2004 is also more than most likely; scheduled release for US is November 9.

@ murewa: 100% Agreed.

Later American release is to prevent the following: "If you don't get your a$$ up from that Gaawwd-Dammmned computer and take the kids out trick or treating, I'm taking the kids and moving in with my Mother!"

Or: Ubisoft (a French company, I believe) believes that people of such discriminating tastes as to buy their products would never vote for GW, so they've delayed US delivery until after the elections, to avoid distracting us from unseating the cowboy in the White House...

cheers

You know what would be a nasty joke to play on the Europeans?

If the American version of PF was delayed so that they could put all the extra stuff coming in the first patch(es) into the US retail release. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

They release last in the biggest precieve market so they have time to ramp up the production and build up a surplus to keep from having shortages here when its released. At least that's my guess.

As I stated, a simultaneous release of anything would be more beneficial for various reasons. It's been done in other markets. The last two (I believe) Matrix movies were released simultaneously to cut down on the piracy that they believed would have happened if the movies had been released on a normal movie schedule.

That said, it doesn't really matter what I or anyone thinks. As ultimately, obviously, we aren't releasing the game. They are. I just find it disappointing that they don't release on a more global scale. Even if it took an extra week or so to do it.

Agreed with the above.

Expect to see at least 7 trackers for PF at your favorite Bit Torrent source.

Sad, but true. Ubi shouldn't try to make up for the late European release of AEP by releasing PF late in the Americas. Two wrongs don't make a right.

@ stuka: Your assumption is wrong. The game has gone gold, remember?
This means it is now in the hands of the publisher, UBISOFT, and it's now up to them and only them when the game will be on the shelves.

Tick.............................................. .................................If you listen to 'Money for Nothing' by Dire Straights while you wait "I want my MTV" starts to sound like "PF CD" after awhile.

If PF has gone gold, why would they want to exchange it for money? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

What act of insanity would cause a game dev. to delay a game after it want gold?

SKULLS Virga

Marketing.

They may sell more if they release it right at the start of the Christmas rush - while the game is considered a new release and it gets as much attention as possible. I don't know if this is their strategy but it could be.

When something 'goes gold' it means that the product is completely finished and the 'gold' refers to the gold master disc that all discs that you buy are copies of that gold master. So, when you hear of a game going gold, that means that the game is now finished, a gold master has been created, and it has been sent/is being sent for hundreds of thousands of copies of the game to be created from that gold version.

Simply, it means the game's finished and we're now making the copies you'll buy in the shop http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
