http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gifReminds me of the exchange in Monty Python's "Army Protection Racket",sketch:

" Luigi: Well everything breaks, don't it colonel. (he breaks something on desk) Oh dear.

Dino: Oh see my brother's clumsy Colonel, and when he gets unhappy he breaks things. Like say, he don't feel the army's playing fair by him, he may start breaking things, Colonel.

Colonel: What is all this about?

Luigi: How many men you got here, Colonel?

Colonel: Oh, er ... seven thousand infantry, six hundred artillery, and er, two divisions of paratroops.

Luigi: Paratroops, Dino.

Dino: Be a shame if someone was to set fire to them.

Colonel: Set fire to them?

Luigi: Fires happen, Colonel.

Dino: Things burn." http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i314/DMFesel/daddy.gif http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i314/DMFesel/smokin.gif http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i314/DMFesel/daddy.gif

Having it checked out, assembled, and made FAA airworthy are the expensive parts. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

They were in service till fairly recent times, certainly not been standing 30 years.
It actualy would be a bargain if the hours on the engine were not expired, but as said itll still cost a heap to get going and keep going.
I imagine itll end up in a private US collection<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Czech MiGs were retired last year I don't know any details about this particular but it will be really expensive to renovate that machine after at least 30 years of service. Our MiGs were at least once upgraded another upgrade will be beyond planned life lengthhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

There's a couple Mig-23's here in Sarasota owned by a friend of my Dad's who flies R/C, they've had an engine run up on one of them and I think the other is a spare. I wonder what would happen if he started flying it and any of the F16's that fly over all the time were to spot it? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/touche.gif

A buddy of my old man's bought a Mig-15 when he retired. I think he got it through an outfit in Arizona and it included a spare engine. Cost was around $40k. He had it shipped to the port of New Orleans and a couple of months after he received it and carted it off to his retirement ranch he got a call from the port authority asking him to come pick up the rest of the shipment. He arranged for the new crate to be shipped up to him and when he got it, the "rest of the shipment" happened to be the complete gun tray. IIRC that's 2 23mm and one 37mm cannons. Like an idiot he actually had the ATF come and pick them up. It's not like he had, or could get, any ammo for them. I would have hung those bad boys up on the hangar wall.

Wow, $147k in flying condition. I could get a loan for that. Of course, my wife would kill me but it may be worth it.

a multi-millionair here in my country brought a pair of Mig-25

he stores & services them in australia

he says they are very reliable & over-built , when the news item ran on the TV he was in the process of getting his jet license . a RAF officer was hired to do the piloting in the meantime

btw the Mig-25 is a Mach-2-+ capable ride . shows what kind of toys money allows huh

i think you may even be able to buy old Mig-29 now<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

MiG-25s do seem to have been very dependable airplanes. They still use them in Russia for selling rides.

Utchoud translated a good Czech R-15 article for us, they eventually got the R-15 up to maybe a thousand hours or so apparently...
