Sorry, the engine sounds are generated by the game engine and can't be replaced.

Actually, you cant replace anything in this sim except missions and skins.

I think I know what you are talking bout...

I have only once heard that flybysound in the weeks I have been flying now and was amaized the second I heard it... Never heard it after untill in this youtube movie...

Also, come to think of it, I have no MG sounds at all...

Using x-fi soundcard and medusa 5.1 headphones on surround sound...

I would like to bump this for importance...

Tonight, on warclouds, I was in several dogfights and never heard an enemy airplane, eventhough wingmen made claims like "that sounded like a 190" when they zoomed past us...

In the movie the topicstarter posted, this flyby sound is clearly audible...
I do not hear anything like that...

Also, often, the only indication for depletion of ammo is the message and abstence of force feedback while pressing the trigger...

I read that the sound engine in il-2 was bad, so I did not think I had a problem, untill now...

The sounds in that clip are dubbed over the existing engine sound. The gun sound is the 0.50 cal from CFS2. I don't know where the flyby sound came from, but it's not available in IL-2.

Just to be clear, these sounds can't be grafted onto the game. They are present in that You Tube clip as part of the film production.

cheers

You can replace the speech files and intro music. There is also an inflight music loop that can be replaced to allow a custom pilot chatter loop.

I hope by 'skins' you are including the pilot textures, pilot profile pictures, background screenshots, noseart, and insignia files.

But as said earlier, the weapons and engine sounds can't be replaced.

Thank you all for replying me, I realy didnt know either how could that movie had such good fly by sounds! To bad that IL2 doesent support sound replacement like some other games mmmm....CS:S and many others.

IL2's sounds are supposedly partially synthesized on the fly. They also apparently sound very good output in S/PDIF from something like a Turtle Beach or M-Audio DDL card. (Creative sound cards are actually pretty bad at digital encoding -- they can't even output EAX in digital!)

Or so the official rumors go. I've got nForce2 onboard sound (MUCH better than Realtek) and a pair of stereo speakers. It certainly doesn't sound any worse to me than anything else on my computer.

To restate this: part of the reason that sounds are locked and cannot be replaced like you can is MS product is to prevent cheating when playing online. An unscrupulous gamer could replace some of the sounds with nothing for their own plane and enhanced/louder sounds for enemy airplanes to gain an advantage or some other underhanded idea that I cannot fathom.

It's possible the sounds were dubbed in after the fact.
