I feel that games are always going to look artificial. The real world is actually somewhat boring sometimes...games tend to take it up a notch with more film like qualities when they get the chance. I'll be willing to be that we'll be looking "better than reality" within 5 to 10 years.

That's the footage from "Pearl Harbor" they used to demonstrate Ben Afflek getting shot down over the channel.

As I recall, that was from a documentary on the B of Brit which I saw on TV a year or so ago. Note: the Spitfire incorrectly has a large radiator under each wing, instead of a smaller round intake under the port wing characteristic of the B of Brit-era Mk Ia.

Actually,
I saw it about 5 yrs ago at the State Fair.
It was shown in a "Ride", a moving enclosure that rocked and rolled with the "wingman" who's plane you were sitting in.

It was very immersive effect.

This film footage was shot to Battle Of Britain -movie, I think. (Better check the DVD)

The film was shot for a Park 'Ride', as Dew Claw correctly says.

Mark Hanna was one of the pilots.

I think the clip takes place in 1941, as the 109s are clearly Fs (wings and rads) and the spits seem to be MkVs.

And its not from pearl harbor, in that "movie" the 109 sprays like a fool all over the place and Affleck is not a victim of the Messerschmidt but of the failure of his oil-cooler system.

Thats interesting on where it came from, but I would like to know your guess when we might see gameplay graphics on our pc that are comparable to the footage.2 5 10 years maybe?

What is in that clip is possible right now. The problems is the Cost in $ of making it a playable game, and the pc to play it on.

That 109s are no Buchons.
The Buchons have the wings of the E series.
The 109s in the clip have round and slender wingtips.

Buchons, or HA-112s are based on the Me-109 G2 airframe, and have rounded wingtips. That buchon in the that black and white picture does in fact have rounded wingtips.

If all Buchons are based on G-2 airframes, why do they have the cockpits of the A-D series?

the sea in the clip doesn't move, Oleg wouldn't do that, even il2 had moving seawater edges

Do I have problems with my eyes?
Anyway, the 109s in the clips look a bit CG to my eyes.

Don't think so, looks like all live action footage to me.

Those are not Buchons. Notice the place of exhaust stacks.. Too high for Daimler engine
So no Bf109 but Buchons 112 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I can tell you all for a fact that this footage IS REAL!

My Grandfather was flying wing position in the 109 (the view shown in the footage), his gun camera's caught this action.

Clearly it has been digitally edited and coloured for dramatisation, but I can tell you I have seen this many, many times at may Granddad's house when I was young. It was one piece of film/evidence that he had retained to show us (his family) of what he had been involved with during the war, before immigrating to feel more secure in New Zealand.

The round wing tips are merely 109E field mod's that were being tested for manoeuvrability by certain influential pilots, that did not believe that Luftwaffe engineers would take the Spitfire threat seriously.

If you don't believe me you can ask my Mum.

Cheers, CrazySchmidt. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Those are Buchons, they are not wartime German Bf109's, I don't care how many people say it's real footage, look at a picture of a Buchon's cowl and then look again, freeze the movie if you must, you'll clearly see that those aircraft are NOT genuine German Bf109's, they have the characteristic deep chin and high exhaust position of the Buchon. Anybody who knows anything about warbirds will recognise the fact instantly. I'm guessing your grandfather showed you some similar footage that featured real Bf109's, Schmidt.

isnt it real footage??? i thought it was real fight 1940

Xiolablu3

I think the confusion about Buchons comes because many had their wings clipped to appear in films as 109E's.

The excellent 1969 Battle of Britain film uses Buchons with clipped wings.

I think all your gripes came from believing there was a single Buch√¬≥n type. There were a lot of variants -based in the airframes and engines available- and even two producing companies: CASA and Hispano Aviaci√¬≥n.

And, yes, those 109s in the movie look like Spanish-built planes to me. They have the large radiators typical of *most* Spanish-built variants.

My gripe came from the fact that, although the footage is filmed from behind the 'messerschmitts', there are moments where the shape of the cowling can be clearly seen (being painted bright yellow...), if you pause at the right moment it becomes really clear; the blisters for the upright V engine and the deep chin spell "buchon". Also, the high exhaust stubs, got sweet FA to do with the wingtips, easy to change wingtips for a film, more complex to change powerplant/cowlings....
