No, apparently some fool shelved it too early. It was restocked the next day I was there. The lady at the register had to manually punch in the price because the laser scanner apparently had some complications http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. I've been told it's not uncommon for this to happen in larger chain stores. I think the same happened with FS2004 when it came out, but I'm not sure.

I don't understand. Doesn't UBI know when it's released?

A friend of mine is a manager at a local store that carries games. She has had some serious problems with games being put out at Walmart before the release date, ultimately costing her sales. She told me that she could lose her distributor if she were to put it on the shelf before the release date. (small local business). Guess where I'll be buying the game? I don't care if they have it out at Wally World. I have waited this long . . . I'll wait a little longer.

Not Walmart!

Ask her why the distributors want to wait to let them sell it.

Why?

PlimPlam
10-21-2004, 09:34 PM
Ya thats weird them just sitting on their hands if they have it.

Ahh well I can wait. Not like I have a choice in the matter though. Best buy says mine will arrive on the 11th. Estimated though.

Love that cruddy store for online purchase for some reason. They ship simultanios orders seperately so I can get and watch a few movies while I wait.

BoB anyone? I got popcorn.

I know this happens, I've seen it. Way back when Metal Gear Solid 2 was just about ready for release on the PS2, I was walking through a music store here (Hastings). Of all things... there in the glass case is a stack of 4 copies of MGS2! Way before the release date was confirmed! At first I thought they might be empty boxes. I got a clerk to open the case and I took one out, it was the real deal. I said I'd take it, but darn if a manager lady wasn't right there to stop me. She said "No!" and grabbed the copy I had, the others in the case, and the clip-on price tag off the shelf and went in the back room. Oh well.

And I also prefer to buy at smaller stores instead of Wally World when I can. It's not really hard here, my Wal-Mart is probably the last in the country to get new games anyway.

Most likely reason is that as publishers, they'd prefer to attempt to reinforce the sales of all of their retail outlets, rather than just those located within close shipping proximity. Not coincidentally, it makes it easier for the players who live 'out in the boonies' to buy/receive the game at the same time as the city folk, and everybody is happy... In theory at least.

I honestly had no idea that the pacific theater was of such great interest to Europeans. The battle of Bratain was a multi cultural battle with pilots from all over Europe, and America, but the Pacific was mostly just American and Japanesse. ( and Aussieshttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )
Whe I first gained interest in WWII history and Aviation I was naturally drawn to the stories and history of the Pacific, mainly because its a pivital point in American History.
So it seemed safe to assume Eropeans would be more intersted in the large battles of Eroupe.

I'll be honest and admit my bias, and admit I just think the Corsair looks cool http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif, And the Zero's are just fun as heck to fly!

So I pose this question to my European Flight Sim buddies, what do you find so intersting about the Pacific Theater?

Hello, Simjock http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I saw your last post and wanted to say that I am a yank that never was aware of the cool planes and brave pilots that fought at the Eastern Front . . . until IL2 Sturmovik. Once I played the game, I couldn't get enough.

This game has a way of bringing us all together. I think that the next real war should be fought in the virtual world. Maybe the foes will have so much fun that they forget what it was that they were fighting for and just become friends.

Sigh! I know that it is just a dream, but it would be nice http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Sorry but this statement is just rubbish m8. The English, Scots, Irish, New Zealanders, French and so on ALL fought the Japanese in Burma, Singapore, etc, in a a MASSIVE scale. Ever heard of the Dutch East Indies? British Carriers and ships wee used a lot in the Pacific as they fared better with the Kamikazis than the US carriers because of their Metal (rather than wood) runways/decks.

You need to read up on your history.

Yes Indeed, the War in the Pacific, was as multi cultural as the war in Europe, and just as Brutal.
In the Pacific however the war was fought on a Racial hatred level as well, that added a new dimension to the brutality.
During the initial Japanese advance through the Pacific region, the Japanese where not equiped to take prisoners, and Japan was not a signatory of the Geneva convention or the Haig accord in regards to the treatment of prisoners of war.
Many allied servicemen from all nations, along with nurses, women and children of non asian decent died at times a cruel death in the path of advancing Japanese forces in the Asia Pacific Region.
Usualy you would be shot or bayoneted, and sometimes for Sport the Japanese would douse groups of prisoners with petrol then set them on fire and watch them run around sreaming.

I had two uncles (now deceased) that served in the New Guinea Campaign, as we are an Australian Family, and I can assure you that Australian Army forces where heavily into PAY BACK TIME! when the tide turned our way in the Pacific

That makes good solid sence. I forgot how much fun it was when IL2 first came out, busting German tanks and convoys in my IL2 Sturmovik with the rear gunning screaming profanity at me in Russian!

the reason why games are held to particular release dates is to help ensure that sales are included in following weeek's sale chart numbers.

Quite hungover so not sure if that makes sense but hope you know what I mean.

well im Dutch ,and did you ever hear of the Dutch east indies? so pacific is even more so intresting for me becuase we did alot of fighting over there maybe even more so then in europe.
we flew B25s,P40,hawks and hurries in the east indies
Dutch B25 campaign anyone? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

and for the rest im not realy intrested in the PF or atleast the US planes
(seen to much corsair in sims)
but i know very little about the jappanese planes other then the zero so that opens a whole new world for me regarding planetypes just like the russian planes when IL2 first came out http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
