some wind noise while the canopy is open would be a nice and realistic effect

I have to agree with this. After all, we get wind sound in the I-16, I-153, G50 etc.

That's a good idea, lets have a deafening gale when the canopy opens at high speed, that will discourage those who open it to get a better view!

The engine sound does change when you open the canopy, doesn't it? You hear the external noise instead of the internal noise.

Karost: Is sonar gone??!??!?? If it is gone then I am very happy!

I think the only way to discourage guys opening canopy to pop out for better look around is to make it open only when aircraft is configured for landing (gear down).

I don't think you can hear wind whistling
at all in a real WW2 fighter (when engine is on).

Joe Foss (WW2 USMC pilot) said in Microsoft CFS2 book that you could hear absolutely nothing else but your headphone radio (if they happened to work) from the roar of the engine.

I have also heard many other similar stories from WW2 pilots. External sounds are almost irrelevant in a WW2 flight simulator.

I think PF sounds are great.

the sounds are not good in il2 /pf... hell i can make better sounds with my harmonica. in the movies we could download there was great sound and i think they where from cfs3. why cant we have that kind of sound. and i think when you open your canopy the motor sound would be higer... but that just what i think.

i do hear the sound of wind when the cockpit is opened.
you may swith to hardware extensions if you can't hear it.

BTW. i have a little problem with the hardware extensions, i got some sound volume drop and sometimes when i look forward it seems that the sound is not shure which speeker should be used, i hear it from the left and right one but no center or the other way around. sounds realy strange http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Using Audigy2ZS and 5.1 Headphones (Speedlink Medusa)

I would be happy if it switched to outside-view-sound when you open the canopy.
Like when pressing F2 etc...

I believe sound is grately improved in PF. To my content.
At least that's what I noticed. Am I among few lucky ones?

Ya, Oleg there does has wind sound .but if you change the cockpit view to outside view than back to cockpit view the wind sound will lost .if you want to hear it again you must reclose the canopy and open it again.do you think its a bug?

there really has the sound .but not very loud compare with the engine sound.if you want to hear it clearly just press "I" key to kill the engine ,you will hear it . http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The point is - the sound does not change when you open the canopy - regardless of hardware extensions, sound settings, etc.

In addition, on some planes there is no sound of the canopy gliding back and forth if you open and close it - some planes have the sound, some do not.

Needs to be fixed.

i get EXACTLY that effect , only its not so loud , could be louder , turn your engine on idle and set prop pitch on 0% , there it is , but nowhere near i16 levels in forgotten battles w/o AEP http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I get the wind noise effect on the Hawk 81A-2. No need to do anything special just to hear it, just open the lid and it sounds great. Corsair canopy is also missing the rolling sound.

Not to worry, either the sound levels will just have to be bumped for some planes' wind noise, or the effect added. Probably the first patch will fix that.

What a great addon Oleg.
