1. What‚'s the AEP addon?
2. How come Oleg and team are able to spin out so many things like new aircraft even when they‚'re working on Pacific fighters AND Battle of Britain while the Lo-mac team takes ages to just patch the game?

1) You answered your own question. It is an addon/upgrade for IL2 with new planes and features.

2) Oleg and team are not making all these new planes...the community is. Oleg approves the models and tweaks the flight models for use in the game. Oleg is an incredibly hard working and talented person who is capable of overseeing the development of 3 games through delegation and smart planning.

LOMAC is developed by a different company that does not apparently have the same drive nor vision that Oleg does.

1) AEP stands for the Ace Expansion Pack which is a retail package sold in most stores these days (worldwide) which includes a pile of new planes (new P-51 models, P-63, P-38, Spitfire, Bf 110, bunch of new jet types, the Ta-152H, etc.). Its also getting a couple of patches in the next 6 months that will include even more planes in the lineup. Its also considered FB 2.0 and its what everyone flies online these days. In my mind, the AEP expansion is well worth it!

2) Oleg is only partially involved with Pacific Fighters. By and large its Luthier and a team that he's put together that is making PF. Oleg and Maddox games are providing some kind of technical support while Luthier is involved with content creation. Battle of Britain is certainly more Oleg's focus of the two and of course AEP and FB are still on the radar for now and for the concievable short term.

No idea why it takes ages for the LOMAC team to patch the game but I think part of the marketing scheme of FB, AEP, and even PF is that support for the product doesn't just stop right away and that its probably factored into their development time that there will be patches and addons. It works to their advantage because popularity of the product continues much longer than if it had been dropped (consider that FB probably wouldn't be as popular if it had stayed just at 1.0). More to the point, we see lots of new people in the community all of the time so its still selling.

The other thing is that new fighters for FB is alot easier than for LOMAC...no avionics, advanced computer systems, radar models, and all that sort of thing. We complain about the flight modeling here but there is a certain simplicity in WWII aircraft that means you can model a whole lot more...not a single one of them needs or uses a computer or sophisticated electronics to work (night fighters aside)
