Ie just read a review of Firepower the add on for CFS3 (which I havent played but do believe you all that it is just not worth it).

The reviewer hated CFS 3 but now it has Firepower he says it is as good and even in some areas surpasses IL2 FB.

Any of you tried it?

Like many game reviews I would say that this write-up is quite superficial.

He quickly glosses over the FM (IMO the most important factor of any sim) with a throw away line; is very impressed with the pryotechnics of explosions; and is sold on the game because it has both the B-29 and the Atom Bomb.

I'm so totally sure that he is paied by microsoft for writing such stuff!

Have any of you guys looked at www.il2skins.com (http://www.il2skins.com) ?
I am a skinner there, and when i look at the planes in firepower, P-40, B17 and so on... those are seriously the most crappy, cartoonish, and acradish skins i've ever seen! those are worse than my first skins!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif

and when that guy is complimenting all those "nice and excellent" effects that has to be seen to be believed, doesn't look like that in the screenshots...

****, in my eyes... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif

Uhhhh...aren't those two the same thing?

I doubt I will ever get Firepower for CFS 3. That would involve me buying CFS 3 again plus the Firepower add-on. After my 24 hours of hell with CFS 3 I find it difficult to imagine what anything can do to really make it shine.

Once bitten, twice shy Im afraid.

"As weaponry, both were good, but in far different ways from each other. In a nutshell, I describe it this way: if the FW 190 was a sabre, the 109 was a florett, or foil, like that used in the precision art of fencing." - G√ľnther Rall

the only thing I dream about are the CFS3 clouds into PF.

That review guy hasn't got a clue what he's talking about! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/51.gif

He was impressed by the fact that planes could actually explode when you hit them in the right spot... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif

And how could a gold master be different from the retail version... they make the retail from the gold!!

Amazing all it takes to get us all on the same track is trot out a CFS3 topic.

Nothing pull us all together quite like that piece of garbage

Yeah thats a loaded topic for this forum man. Most people here are biased towards FB and the 1c crew, which isn't a bad thing... I'm pretty impartial. I actually played Janes Attack Squadron for awhile till I got bitten by the IL2 bug. I noticed theres almost never any mention of it in here, it never had the following IL2 did, although I was pretty impressed that they incorporated wing loading!
Back to CFS3 though, in my opinion its a simple question of stacking up gameplay. The graphics look much prettier and special effects are amazing where IL2 has the forbidden ring. Although the aircraft textures for CFS3 are much more bland, I don't even think you have the options of different skins like in FB/AEP. Your best bet my friend is to go to netwings.org. If you play around theres reviews for everything and some forums devoted to IL2 and CFS. You should be able to make some better comparisons there.

Happy Hunting.

From someone who has many hours of flying in Real life and in flight simulations I find that CFS3 withn 1% add-ons or with FIREPOWER has markedly better flight modelling, from a standpoint of performing like the technical orders set forth.

Also, I much prefer having available all flyable aircraft over the addition of AI only aircraft beefing up the list of planes in the simulation.

I find the missions in FB repetitious and a boring succession of furballs or strafings.

From a standpoint of a "finished" flight simulation, CFS3 exceeds IL2 and its clones by a wide margin.

Eye candy is only one feature of a flight sim.

I buy flight simulations to fly, not to look at pretty pictures.

I've been flying my family's Luscombe 8A (and whole lot of toher civilian types) since I was five years old, and I can say with out trepedation, that I have no business discussing flight models of combat sims. I've never flown a P-51 or an La-7, and I don't think most people here can say anything more than that.

I think you will find that Droopsnoot has flown more than a few civilian planes!

As I recall he flew B-25 , B-29, and B-47 aircraft.

From what I've read, the 1% flight models are now very good indeed - certainly better than FB's rather generic ones. But the out-of-the-box product is a complete turkey. What really kills it stone dead for me is the lack of any TrackIR support. Totally unforgivable in a modern flight sim.

Unfortunately, the critical mauling CFS3 received appears to have stopped any chance of a CFS4, which is a shame because some aspects of the game (weather and modability) were worth preserving into a more refined successor product.

Incidentally, is it possible to skin CFS aircraft at all? I have to agree with the comment above that the skins in CFS3 are very poor compared to those available for FB.

RocketDog.

Not wishing to get dragged into the FB vs CFS debate but it is possible to skin CFS3 aircraft although it is not as easy as FB to maintain them

I bought FirePower, installed it... Didn't do anything for me. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/51.gif
The MS CFS product allowing for add-on of 1% aircraft is a nice feature for the honorable. But... There are those that take this feature for granted by MODing the flight model. That's why you only see 18 people now days when there were times you couldn't even log on to the Zone in CFS2. A mass exodus has taken place due to excessive cheating.

Ubi has done a nice job not allowing add-ons keeping our on-line gaming "pretty much" fare for the majority of us that don't hack.

so very true...

I remember pre-Il2 days flying against f22's, and planes literaly with no wings in my Hellcat in the Zone...cheaters destroyed it for alot of people.
