Hi guys

Just saw the "ATTENTION ALL..." thread by BC99

I was wondering, If you had to do the marketing and attract more people to the IL2 series, besides the products links to buy the game and the patches page what other elements or media would you use?

please post:

Video Links (full download, youtube, google)
things like the comewithme video
screenshots
articles

Thing is I have friends that are regulars of CS2, OFP, NWN, COD2 and BF2 <=(yeah don't ask) and I want them to join me in this WW2 Fighter Pilot stuff

English is not my native language so I hope you get the Idea, the purpouse is, posting material that is so cool one would like to buy this thing ASAP.

regards

Have you ever seen the video that was made by someone on these boards named --Syd?
Look for his movie in the movie makers forum, it's a recruiting movie for a virtual squadron on IL2.

I'm nowhere near qualified to play cooperatively with anyone else in Il2 but I kept his video anyway, it's that good!

Take a look at that one, that one's dynamite.

Wow! That was definitely one of the best promo videos I have ever seen for a video game. Amazing that it came from a community member.

I did this the other day: go raid other Ubi game boards- stuff like Flaming Angels forum and the like. Look for threads like "Blows away Blazing Angels," and post there like I did with links to this forum/PF website.
(example: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4281085773/m/6731033884 )

There's no issue with raiding game boards from the same company, is there?

Justa thought. There was another forgetful arcade sim from Ubi that may serve as a recruiting point.

Here's a list of fast action IL-2 movies that might get your mates going.

"Kaleidoscope of piloting", The Fighting Wood******s.
"The Prodgy: Spitfire", Kenty."
"Come With Me", RC_Kedik.
"Shooting You", David 'Tolwyn' Shaw.

There are lots of excellent IL-2 movies in the movie makers forum, just ask them.

Hope it helps.

I'll talk from our small community (VSAAF -South Africa) experience.

I joined the UBI forums 6 months after buying the game ~ 2002 I think it was. I was eventually contacted by a local and 2 national game servers (Easy and Hard) were setup. We were looking at about 6 guys online at this time, but we were there every night for 6 - 8 hours. This membership grew to about 20 (via word and mouth) including RL pilots. This 'membership' stayed at this number with dedicated flyers putting in enormous hours.
About 10% people faded, as the same amount of new people joined, so the numbers were constant. And recently (2005/6)there has been an incredible amount af new 'recruits' joining, in that these numbers have shot up to at least 50 or more consistent players.

By international standards this is probably 'petty-cash', but by 'the last outpost of the empire' standards, this is a coup.
We don't advertise, it's all word-of-mouth - Forums. It's more than likely the challenge of IL2.
It's most likely the 'easy nature' of our forum group. There are NO structures, squadrons, forms, formats to abide by, except basic respect for everyone else.
A simplistic air combat communication (TS) structure has developed that enhances the combat experience. Whatever side you're on (blue or red) everybody forms a cohesiveness 'on the fly'. Tactics are a foregone conclusion and newbies are guided through this process via 'WingTip Smoke' and or 'Shoot me if you can' Drogue targets on the Hard Server (Hard Server = Full Real, Icons at ~200m[I prefer no icons which is what I fly on]). I've acted many a time as a Drogue hoping to gain their first 'on-line kill' http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif .

On our easy server(No-CPit, but full flight model) there is air-racing and newbie practice/education sessions.

I think, in a way, we've managed to provide an IL2 'service' to all standards of flight experience that makes it attractive to all 'not so Simmers'

To conclude.. Like the pilot selection course (etc) that I had to endure,
Only those who want to fly...will fly in this 'game'..
Only those who want to live...will survive.
Only those who have imagination...will be the best of them all.

I would definitely show people the various il2 movies that are out. Talking about il2 is one thing, showing it is another, and these il2 movies are a hell of a way to introduce someone to il2.

Starting of course with "Come with me", nothing shows off the game quite like movies like this.
link here..

http://www.pigyn.com/fb_vid/RC_Kedik-Come_With_Me.zip
there are quite a few movies kicking around that ought to knock the socks right off any aviation fan.. use the highest quality ones you can find, the ones that best show off the game..

id start with come with me, add in a little ambush, some raf662, and top off with Requiem for spice..

i used to make movies for il2, and the main reason i did was because i love the game so much, and i wanted other to litteraly see what i was going on and on about, so i showed them!! and believe me it worked..

Most of the people who do marketing for this sim do so out of enjoyment and loyalty to the sim and the desire to share... It is just that good. I have bought copies of IL2, FB, FB GOLD & PF at various stages of my simming here.... just to share. Some have come... some havent... The only ones I count so to speak in my tally of how much I have spent on the sim is the ones I have kept for myself.

Ypu want to recruit more people? Send them here... send them here (http://www.screenshotart.com/). Send them here (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Flight+Sim+Movies&search=Search) to actually compare movies from other sims. I gaurantee you that for the most part only LOMAC will be able to compete. Do a search for I Promise, Come with me, Requium.. a classic... and some others... The sim will sell it self.

just downloaded it to my home PC yesterday, it's such a masterpiece, also i love the background music and sound effects http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

but honestly, i tried to recruit some of my friends with videos, they say 'cool' and 'wow' but that's it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

you've got to be interested in World War II and/or aviation to get into this, without that underlying interest, people may come in, but wear off quickly
