I read somewhere that it was a heavily modified X wing vs Tie fighter engine, but I would like it confirmed or put to rest if its not true.

Did 1C build the eninge from scratch or use another engine?

Thanks.

I believe they built their own graphics engine. (I think the comments relating to X-Wing were supposed to be a joke...http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif)

The "IL-2 Engine" of course. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

It's not the Xwing engine.

Wherever that came from...bogus.

They developed the engine themselves...took them a while. Someone once showed the early screen shots...they were **** looking...but you could see where they wanted to go with things and the evolution was fascinating.

I can see it being built from the ground up. At the very least...its not going to be coming from X-Wing...that game and its engine were no doubt built to completely different specifications.

OK its rubbish then...thanks.

Although its not as daft an idea as some people care to think.

Xing Vs Tie fighter to IL2 is not that much of a jump considering Quake 3 to Call of Duty 2 (same engine), now is it?

X wing was a flying/space engine , so it would be easy ( http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif) to change the graphics and do a total conversion, then add things as you go.

X-wing -> Il2 is quite far apart, because:

1) Gravity
2) Vacuum <-> atmosphere
3) Landscape

X-wing could do with simple vector arithmetics to calculate where the objects are going, as
there's not much interfering substances around. IL2 happens at the surface of the planet, where
air, gravity and planet itself are causing all
sorts of disturbancies to the vectors.

But true enough, whenever I'm flying the Leningrad '41 with Sturmovik, it brings me
the memories from Tie Fighter...

edit: Aww... mixed FM with graphics.. but didn't TieFighter use "sprites" not vector graphics?

X wing vs Tie fighter used polygons, as I think all the x wing games did.

Gravity and such things could be added to a space flight engine afterwards.

But anyway this is speculation as its not true :P
