here's a subjective topic for people: the cities that altair goes to.
how did you feel when you first entered one of them? what sort of impressions did you get? what was your favourite city?

Damascus: This place looks really frelling warm
Acre: Cool! Awesome! Wait, is that a dead body? And that over there, that's a dead body, too. DubbleyouTeeEff?
Jerusalem: OMG, that is beautiful.

Favorite: Acre. The port pwns, as does the cathedral.

for me, damascus is one warm place -- you feel the desert, majestic is the word.
acre was cold and tense -- crows and a certain lifelessness -- that's war for you.
jerusalem is my favourite -- i got a chance to climb the Al Aqsa mosque without worshippers being on my tail. you get a sense of peace in jerusalem (it's less tense than acre)

Acre seems very poor to me, and dull. It is best suited for a sunny day so you don't feel depressed when you play it.

Damascus is indeed warm. It's a really nice place. I enjoyed going there, and I liked the Assassination Targets as well, they were pretty cool ^_^

Jerusalem is just medium. Some of the hints you get for the funeral are wrong, there are no scholars to hide me when I enter the funeral. And where is Solomons' temple? I want to go there. Jerusalem is supposed to be your favourite, but it just doesn't have that same flair that Damascus has.

So my favourite is Damascus.

altairego

solomon's temple is where the goldendomed mosque is.
let me qualify the jerusalem thing: it's quiet till i start killing there. then the guards get jumpy.

I reiterate... (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5251069024/m/4611030456?r=9801022456#9801022456)

Damascus FTW.

Then Acre. (Apple pie rates second)

Jerusalem is last.

Well, except for the Kingdom.

And Masyaf is exempt because there's really nothing going on there.

Acre so far. I is Goth ja?

altairego
05-07-2008, 02:17 PM
no so much goth as high medieval style: rose windows, glazed windows and such. that cathedral of the holy cross took a while to build i'd imagine. but notice the minarets and mosques here and there they're ruined but visible

Bobfish_Almight
05-07-2008, 02:24 PM
No, I mean because it's dingy and depressing

altairego
05-07-2008, 02:26 PM
they've just been under a siege by crusaders, depression is not the only thing there. there's probably disease from all the dead bodies and the smoke coming out of the chimnies is not much better.

So, to bring it down to it's simplest level. I like Acre because it's a really harsh, depressing looking place

altairego
05-07-2008, 02:53 PM
and smelly.

Bobfish_Almight
05-07-2008, 02:55 PM
I just think the atmosphere is really well handled

Damascus sucks, what do you people like about it? It's so dull and sandy :\ Acre is bloody awesome.

Bobfish_Almight

Damascus is a good area for cinematic chases. All the buildings being close together, and all twisty and turny

altairego
05-07-2008, 08:08 PM
i think Lhorkan likes the european feel of acre and the miasma as well

Bobfish_Almight

I actually really like Masayaf as well

i will have to choose between Acre and Jerusalem....

Jerusalem is great! it's the most important city in the Holy Land..(right?) it's very beautiful! For some reason I like when Altaïr goes to the bureau and talks to Malik.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif (is it "malik" or "malak"? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif )

Acre.. i really like it because of its marvelous cathedral(i actually died the 1st time i reached its top.. i slipped off tryin' to climb the cross http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif) .. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif And i also like the fact that the guards from Acre speak French. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif ain't that cool?

altairego
05-08-2008, 07:48 AM
Yes, it's 'malik". Altair and him have some very interesting conversations: with malik ripping into him. i've never heard such venom in a game.
how did you manage to "slip off" the cross? i mean he can grab anything really -- slipping off is not in his vocab.
man, that cathedral gave me vertigo in front of the screen anytime i panned the camera down. (shudders)

Bobfish_Almight

Malik is a doofus

altairego
05-08-2008, 08:09 AM
he does seem to take the creed to heart seriously. he's almost as righteous as majd addin.

Bobfish_Almight
05-08-2008, 08:11 AM
I've noticed that Altaïr's biggest failing, if you want to call it that, is how he adapts to different circumstances. Unlike the rest of the Assassin's I've seen so far he embodies the spirit of the creed more than the letter

altairego
05-08-2008, 08:16 AM
adaptability is their creed.
everything is permitted could stand for if things change, change your plan.

Bobfish_Almight
05-08-2008, 08:19 AM
Which is what Altaïr keeps saying. But everyone else disagrees with him and calls him arrogant. The dude does everything himself. It's not arrogance he just really is that good

altairego
05-08-2008, 08:25 AM
remember al mualim asking him why he was successful? "you listened".
but he does think his way is better. so he does set himself above. i don't disagree with his belief, it's his method of expressing it that worried me.

Bobfish_Almight
05-08-2008, 08:55 AM
Al Mualim is privvy to far more information than Altaïr, so they're understandably going to have differing viewpoints about certain things. Likely a great many things

altairego
05-08-2008, 01:24 PM
you mean he's hiding stuff.
he only doles out what he THINKS altair needs to know. the man is using him. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

Bobfish_Almight

That's the luxury of command

altairego
05-08-2008, 01:39 PM
luxury?
or is it that he does not trust altair despite giving him a chance to get his rank back?

i wish i'd been able to rifle through al mualim's library while i am in masyaf, have altair read some things.

Bobfish_Almight
05-08-2008, 01:41 PM
I couldn't say for certain. And I haven't played very far yet so appreciate not ruining any more of the plot for me ifn' you don't mind. Someone already let it slip that you have to cap him

altairego
05-08-2008, 01:42 PM
as you wish.

Bobfish_Almight
05-08-2008, 01:46 PM
On a purely conjective level I'd have to say that, thus far, it seems to me more that Mualim is testing Altaïr and deliberately misleading him because he wants to see if he has the nowse to see through all the bull****. I'm thinking Al Mualim actually wants Altaïr to take his place. Which is most often done by killing the gaffer

altairego
05-08-2008, 02:18 PM
i agree with you there.

Bobfish_Almight
05-08-2008, 02:26 PM
Here's something I've noticed. Is it just me or, sometimes, does it feel like Desmond himself is actually being 'controlled' or watched by someone else via an instrument like the Animus?

altairego
05-08-2008, 02:28 PM
there are cameras all over the lab and his room i think.
abstergo is watching him alright

Bobfish_Almight
05-08-2008, 02:30 PM
I don't mean video surveillance. I mean actually looking through his eyes

Don't diss on Malik. He is *SUPER*

Just ask Kax:

because he somehow leaves the Assassin's Bureau despite the fact he is one-armed and there are no way out of an Assassin's Bureau except for the roof (so apparently he can climb out of a room with one arm) and he somehow manages to show up right behind Altair despite having to fight and run from Templars with a bum arm (so apparently he can ride incredibly fast)

Malik runs on rage and pure awesome...

altairego
05-09-2008, 04:47 AM
o he is angry alright -- first at altair and then later at al mualim.

I hated Acre. It's so depressing there. But Damascus...*******, that place was brilliant. It felt so awesome, almost makes me want to go there...but...my infidel brain is cautious when the possibility of no longer having blood flow is brought into the equation.

Jerusalem was meh. Okay, but not as homely or beautiful as Damascus. At times it felt sorta like a cheap clone of it.

I've made it to the rich quarter of Damascus now. It is a rather impressive place to see and no denying

let me give you even more of a reality check: damascus of altair does not look the same as modern one most likely.

To be honest, I think they all look great in their own way
