Korvettenkapitt├┬Ąn J├╝rgen OESTEN provided the Dev Team with his invaluable insights on the submarine war. His input has had a crucial role in the recreation of the U-boat experience.

Find out what he has to say about the torpedoes in this new video: watch the clip (http://media.ubi.com/emea/sh3/videos/Oesten_Torpedoes.wmv).

Downloading!

Thanks for the link - impressive to see and hear somebody, who was actually aboard a submarine and lives to tell his experiences.

Nice video, but still short. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Once again many thanks to the Gentleman for his time and help relating his invaluable memoires/experiences.

The video clip was a bit short, it would be great to hear much more from him.

regards.

I would love to have the complete interview Mr Oesten did with the dev' team. Maybe we will get an abridged version in the game, like we did with Mr Topp in SH2.

It is interesting that the reload time was 15 minutes, because most sims put it over that time.

How do they get the torpedoes into the sub when they're in dock?

I believe they had a special hatch for the torpedoes.. Here is a picture of that process...

I'd hope crew quality is one of the features of the game, so that load times change depending on how experienced your torpedo loading crew is. I'd imagine that 15 minutes was the time a really good crew would need to reload, while crews on their first patrol might take a few minutes longer.

Yes, maybe 15 minutes was the best reloading times, not the average.

Reloading torpedoes on diesels subs is an hard, hand made, job; a torpedo weights about one ton, and after moving from storages to tubes are also required accurate settings and connections to the launch system.

Yes, I would agree that Herr Oesten indicates 15 minutes to be a really good time, under good conditions.

Remember, the torpedo tubes COULD NOT BE EVEN RELOADED ON THE SURFACE in rough weather.

Very Dangerous indeed. You have to have the right moment to do that for sure. Twards end of the war radar made that nears impossible. This would prove to be impossible even in open ocean since aircraft can quietly swoop down on any unsuspecting Uboat. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif
