Just a selection from my amateur snapping on Sunday.
They have been resized (originals are 1600x1200).
All static pictures of the aircraft which flew (the exception being the kittyhawk as it had mechanical problem I believe), as my camera doesn't have enough zoom for flying aircraft.

I did get the flying aircraft on my camcorder though http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I have a total of about 50 shots I took, in full size they are about 25 mb.
I would be more then happy to share them pingu.

I haven't even watched the video yet, so I am not sure how it is going to turn out.
It was the first time I have used the camcorder on anything faster than my 16 month old son !
I have around 40 minutes of footage on that IIRC.

TY!

It seems you guys get treated with more shows over there in the UK than in the states. Or we may have just as many but to to the size of county they are more spread out.

Nice shots... the Hellcat is really massive, even next to a Thunderbolt, it still looks big & pugnacious. And by the by, that's a Wildcat, not a Martlet. The FAA reverted to the standard Grumman 'Cat' terminology by the time the FM-2 model arrived.

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Really nice photos! Although my favs have always been the US aircraft, there is something about Hurricanes and Spitfires that I just love! They just look so coooool~ I guess it's just a reflection on all the books I used to read as a boy about WWII aircraft. I always loved the sections dealing with the BOB!

Nice Pics!

I took a pic of the B-17 in the American Air Museum from the same footsteps as you did! All In all I took 12 rolls of 36 frames film plus some 40 on my digital camera. I can't wait those pictures to be processed... 300 mm lens was pretty decent for shooting. A fabulous day!! I'll be there again altough it takes a while to travel from Finland.

Grist, I have a total of 4 shots of the P47, I will let Pingu link them as I dont want to take liberties as he is hosting them for me http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Unless Pingu changes the names, they should be
picture numbers 20,21,26 and 27.

All the Photos on Pingu's server are straight from the camera, they may need a little sharpening in a paint programme to look their best.

I had a little play and came up with this period look ... (beware, 1600x1200)

Very nice pics indeed. A lot of KSS went to the D-Day show at Duxford, but sadly it was a mix of aviation history rather than the best era (WW2). We had a great time all the same. I see there were a lot more Spitfires at the legends show (drool drool), ah next year me thinks.
Many thanks.

OK I am currently ripping the DVD video down to AVI/DivX I haven't edited it at yet, so unless I learn fast, there will be a few "didn't realise the camera was turned on" and "were did that plane go" moments, with an unsteady hand on all the time ....
Apologies also , it looks like I should have used the back light setting when filming the sky, maybe then the planes would be less grey ?
I told you I am still learning to "drive" the video camera http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I hope you have a lot of space Pingu, looks like around 33mb each section split into 8 sections of 5 minutes(ish).

ROFL @ Pingu http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Hughlb2,they are in a lot of clips, but track 1 has the longest spitfire scenes.

Again apologies for the poor quality, being new with the camera and still trying to learn the best way to use it.

Lessons learnt for next year are:

1. get to airfield and setup windbreak and chairs first thing right next to the fence to claim the space and not have people in the way.

2. turn of digital zoom as the quality is poor and you can get by pretty well on just 10x optical (I did this about 15 minutes into the filming this time).

3. turn on the setting for backlighting when filming with a lot of sky.

4. turn on the image stabilzer, the small loss of quality is worth it over the image being too shakey.

Many thanks too Pingu for hosting the pics and video http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Man, WW2 aircraft are incredible. I have never seen footage like this before, so many spits going so fasthttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif. It really has opened my eyes to the true performace of these aircraft. My memories of WW2 aircraft at airshows are always of a single fighter doing slow flybys. Is Duxford on every year? I have to get up to the UK to see all this next time, that would be a dream come true.

There are loads of great shows in the UK, some are average but there at least one good one a month throught the summer months. Use this link below to look at the upcoming shows, they have some great planes lined up. I only went to Duxford last week and it was my first Air show, but i am hooked now and i am going to about 5 more in the next two months http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Hughlb2,

There are other airshows on around the UK, but Flying Legends is a bit special if it's WW2 prop 'planes that you want to see. And yes, it's on every year. This year was my first, but won't be my last.

Thanks for the link Sandman, very useful. I am surprised to hear how often you guys get airshows, it must be bliss living in the UK.
Yeah airshows are great, I can remember my first, there really is nothing like it. I dragged a couple of mates along to one and they were completley blown away. When people hear about an airshow (if they're not into aircraft much) they they think, its just some planes flying around, but when your actually there the experience just blows you away, theres nothing like it.

"This year was my first, but won't be my last." After seeing the footage, I can believe you leadbaloonhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

THe one I have is a Panasonic NV-DS60.
TBH I am not totally happy with it, but if its because of its price range or just sub-par generally I don't know.
My friend had a similar priced sony that he used at the show, hoping I will get hold of that so I can burn his footage to DVD, then I can compare.

Lovely English flying weather. Look at those clouds. Anyone get to see the Chino Planes of Fame airshow?
