1-Here's the deal, you have only one chance to play in an online game. You cannot respawn online, no coming back from the dead, the only way is if you can bail out and survive then you can return to fly again, otherwise you have to leave the server and find another one.

2-No speedbar. gauges only.

3-No external views, not even on takeoff.

4-Complex engine mode, if server has it enabled.

5-No icons, you better guess right before you shoot.

6-Map is OK, since a navigator would have maps, but no map icon, meaning there's no little white plane showing where you are on the map, you have to go by land marks and direction. Map downloads with directional compass markings are available at Mudmovers.com.

7-As well you have to fly some slow He-111 or Stuka and bomb the other base or close-by city that is under their control.

I've been doing this lately and boy do your tactics really change. You tend to plan out your route, very high altitude, very cautious, looking around constantly, you get very nervous when you see some slight speck in the distance not knowing if is friend or foe. Very tough, and frustrating when you get killed on the runway.

Try it once......

Welcome to the world of full-real /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Yes I tend to enjoy playing full real, co-op and VOW /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif More fun, more realism more stress... Otherwise IL-2 is like Air quake, just a frag-fest....

One thing I loved about ww2 online, is that fighter squadrons fly together, in groups and in formation, tactics tactics, it's AWESOME!

Il-2 is lacking true team play tactics.

Only in non-squad servers. Team tactics is thankless, and often scoreless. Keeping an eye on your mates 6 is crucial to making a mess out of the enemy.
The virtual kind of DF servers springing up is a good start.
Yup, most DF servers its a free-for-all-kill-stealing bonzai charge and scamper back to base with or without ammo, leave your bud to get eaten up by the re-spawn you just nailed over the base!

It's a feel for reality, see the stress these poor guys went through.

Try my rig out for size, this is what I play on, (it helps working for an Audio Visual Co. for the last 15 yrs)

* screen= 7`X5.5` hanging in my basement.
* Barco Data 500 CRT data projector, handles up to 1152x1024 at a 85MHz refresh rate, 1000 ansi lumens.
* 2000 watts surround sound system, built this from four 500 watt stereo amps I bought from pawn shops, a Panasonic surround decoder with audio outputs to amps, as well as two stereo 12 band EQ's.
* 9 speakers, ranging from 2 main audio file models with 15" woofers, and 6 mid/high end drivers ea. 2 sets of center speakers in Mono mode front of room and behind, 1 14" sub with external amp, 2 rear 200 watt surround directional speakers.
* The cost?
*screen surface material=free (old screens)
*frame for screen=$50.00 in wood
*Projector=free (our company was throwing them out due to it being obsolete, has 1500 hours of use and a life of 25,000 hours. Original cost was about $25,000.
*All four power amps=total $200.
*decoder=$50.00
*All speakers total about $300. (most from pawn shops, 2 I rebuilt myself).

You want immersion, come over to my place to play. When flak goes off, the whole room shakes, expecially with the guns and engine noise. I have it so loud, (only when nobody home) that you would have to yell to hear the guy next to you.

Tried the COOP but always get there too late and have to wait all the time, I like to jump from server to server. Differant tactics.

I meant true team "tactics" as in, flying in formation, and knowing exactly what procedure to take and when to take it, went to break when to bail... Thats the beautiful thing about WW2 online, it's very "SIM" like..... Sure in il-2 I'm in a squad #401Cdn... We watch each others backs and call out breaks and the such but still it's not flying in formation, it doesn't really have the grand feel that ww2 online flying had...

Of course that game took up way too much time to play, as the map was 1/2 size of Europe /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I keep the speedbar enabled, some planes have a bugged compass or you are unable to see the compass.

Other then that I always fly with all other realism options enabled.

The thing I found most frustrating about DF servers is not only the lack of teamwork, but the complete lack of help you normally get from your teammates. Out of this frustration, I realized that the best "help" I could extract from my teammates is to treat most of them (the average or below players) as "bait"--like the lamb tethered to post to attract the wolf.

I fly by getting my 262 up to speed, then I orbit nearby observing generally till I see one of my team mates being chased. That is when I commence my attack run hopfully scoring a hit or 2 and either killing the target or discouraging further attacks on my team guys.

I'll go for a kill if I see one but I like to attack planes that are going after my team who are in low hard fights. Good fun clearing a friends 6, that way you can be confident they'll try and return the favour when things get nasty for you.
