View Full Version : Gibbage - any hopes for a P-80A or B?

03-07-2004, 08:01 PM
I noticed that Gibbage's work in progress pics show speedbrakes. The void P-80 skin (drawn by Snorri, I believe) also shows panel lines for speedbrakes and wingtip tanks too. Plus, the landing light in the nose is another feature found only in P-80A's and later. The void texture shows where the landing light would be, but the YP-80 doesn't have one.

The YP-80 is awesome as is, and I'm glad it's modelled correct.

The texture and 3D model already seem to support the production P-80A.

What's Oleg's view on P-80A's or P-80B's? While I'm dreaming, how about some 5 in. rockets and water injection! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Here's the pic I was thinking of:
http://www.gibbageart.com/images/p-80-48.jpg

That's a serial production P-80A. Note landing light in nose, speedbrakes and wingtip tanks.

If only for the sake of aesthetics, I'd love to have wingtip tanks. The P-80 just looks better with 'em.

I originally built a P-80A, and Oleg turned it into a YP-80. Its up to him to make it back into a P-80a.

Understood, thanks!

Maybe in a future add-on? Oleg let your P-38 have speed brakes and drop tanks, why can't the jet have em? hehehe

By the way, your work is FANTASTIC. Really top notch stuff.

Oh yes, why not just drop an F-16 in for the Allies and have the œber plane race be done with? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif lol

What about, instead of another -80, or another 262 to add to the million variants we already have, we get a Meteor or Vampire? Or some of the first Soviet jet attempts, like that Yak - what was it, 15 or something? Vampire would be the coolest though. Just looks mean! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

That was uncalled for, DDT. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Gibbage built a production P-80A and I think it would be nice to see it functional in the sim. He went to the trouble of making speedbrakes and drop tanks for the model.

However I am also glad that Oleg in his historical wisdom "porked" the P-80A down to YP-80 standards, since only the YP-80 was ever in the ETO during WW2.

I love crap biplanes best of all, but I am not a jet hater.
I love full real best of all, but I am not a wonder woman hater.

Not uncalled for. The only reason he made the P-80 was because he hated the idea of the LW having the "best" planes. He said so himself. The whole intent was to give the allies the œber plane. Plain and simple.

All we need is to have improved versions of it now. (sarcasm btw)

Like you said, the YP-80 made more sense. I'd like to see it left at that, and if anymore jets are added, that they be other early attempts, such as the Meteor, Vampire, and Yak. It would give more variety, particularly to the allies, and not upset the nice balance we currently have.

It would suck for Gibbage's P-80A model to go to waste.

I don't care about "uber" planes. When I flight online it's usually in a crap plane cause they're more fun.

All those detailed AI planes, the ground vehicles, ships, buildings and all that EXTRA FUN STUFF is not there for the sake of "balance". It's all valid simulator stuff.

I mean... nobody uses the battleship Tirpitz in a DF server, but yet nobody's whining that it is way too uber compared to the other ships. Somebody made a Tirpitz model and it's there for us to screw around with. Can you blame me for wanting a P-80A to screw around with, especially when Gibbage has already made the 3D model for it?

I kind of agree with DDT.. dont get me wrong.. I'll gladly take whatever we can get under these FMs.. but that Yak15,17 or 23 would be sweet... or a Mig 9 or 15 or a La16 or a Vampire 5.... all these planes were made between 1946 & 1949. Id love to see this sim go right up to 1950 as the cutoff point. Under the watchfull eye of 1C I am certain it would be awesome. The Yak 15 was basically a yak 3 with a jet engine in it.. very doable.....

Personally I would like to see IL:2 stick to WWII dates, even '46 is alright. How about Oleg takes us to Korea after BoB? I don't think that theater has been done in quite a while, it's about time it's done and done right! It was, afterall, the death of dogfighting...(putting on my flamesuit for that last statement http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif)

ok.. personally? I think you guys focus too much on this issue, uberplane here and uberplane there. Focus on having fun and fly crappy planes instead. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I would like to see an argument about which side has the crappiest plane. That would be refreshing. Too much space (im my own humble opinion) on this forum is taken by this endless "uberplane dicussion". http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

I'm so fascinated by jet fight between YP-80 and 262.
Better than any other jet sim published so far. even better than Lomac. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif (thou FB is prop sim. )

I hope they release stand-alone product using this engine. Just give me Sabre, MiG-15 and Korean map. I'll gladly buy it at $50.
But don't put it into current FB.
I'm flying jets only! Something is going wrong. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

a meteor would be nice since it was there, but not suited for dogfighting, a vampire would be nice but the earlier marks were underpowered so i dunno how that would work out

Yough Bear I too would love to see Yak~15.

Better, the MiG~13 mixed propulsion prop plus engine driven compressor for jet--several squadrons served Baltic Fleet after WW2 and it wasn't based on German engines like Yak~15. Wonder if Oleg can handle mixed propulsion. hmmm.

Didn't the Canberra first fly in 1949?
