Steam has quite a nice anti cheat system, but I don't see how this is going to get more players on hyperlobby. Will thw two work together?

I really doubt they would announce this if the systems were not already integrated and tested, at least thats from my experiance at working with a games publisher.

Yeah, should be interesting.

I really wouldn't worry about it. If a lot of folks come over from FPS games, they will most like gravitate to the low-difficulty servers, with the ones that actually learn how to play the game moving up to more difficult servers. Most of the folks who post here that play online seem to stick with servers that have higher difficulty options.

yea but seeing a rookie stalling every 2 turns can be quite funny. I love to zoom down, open up and rip up wing and then climb back and get alot of ALT and just watch them struggle down below and without warning just take a dirt nap. Can be quite entertaining http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hmmmm I can get third party software for managing mods to launch my X3: Reunion steam game

I reckon it's possible. X3 Reunion is effectively the same game as the dvd one, same file system. Except with a little added code so it only runs when steam is connected. But once you have got it running you can quit steam.

If the steam version doesn't work with hyperlobby then they could always join the servers by direct IP.

I don't really post to much in these forums. I had to comment on this topic because honestly i'm tired of all the big headed ego maniacs who think they own the game. Hear me out. I've been playing this game since the demo of the original IL-2 Sturmovik was released YEARS ago. I'm not that great of a player i learn everyday.
I play it for the fun of the game. The realism and the thrill of flight it provides. I remember showing the game to my father the first time. I'll never forget the first time he tried to take off. A memory that will live in my soul forever http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif. He couldn't believe how real the game looked, or the sounds (B-25 with headphones on). Before i knew it he was crashed into a house.
There's nothing like flying with family and friends. Nothing like soaring over the clouds at 5000 meters as the sun sets in the distance or peaks over the mountains through a fog soaked landscape. There are some spectacular maps and map makers out there. Many who never get any attention they truly deserve.
There are tons of respectable and great players that play it. I learned to fly from many of yous. I didn't know jack squat about this game when i tried the IL-2 demo so many years ago.
I taught myself with the help of the community here and people like you. THIS is the games important feature. A strong community builds a strong game. I have the greatest respect for Mr. Maddox and his team in providing the best combat flight simulation(s)ever created. I can guarantee that his next creation will be even better.
Let me just say this on Ubisoft's decision to release some of their games on STEAM. Brilliant decision if proven to be true. I have STEAM and can tell you there is NOT 1 damn flight/combat flight simulator for it! It's rediculous. There's hundreds of games to download but not 1 simulator? Wonder who does PR work in the flight simulator industry? Nobody. Otherwise IL-2 1946 would have won some awards. Anybody see my point? Somebody at Ubisoft woke up. They seen the light!
Let me explain. First and foremost i understand there are some people in this game who take the game serious. Honestly i think TOO SERIOUS. It's not a bad thing. It's only a game. I understand some vets play the game and it's great. People from all over the world and all walks of life play the game. I've seen people from Poland,Great Britian,Israel,Soviet Union, and everywhere in between. All people flying in the air as one. Working together or fighting for the skies. It's a wonder to see everytime i play. The history involved in this game and the experience it provides it was sets it apart.
Steam has over 500,000 subscribers. Steam is free to download. You only pay for the games. Many at a discount. You don't get the box and manual but hey you can't have everything. It's the largest and most successful digital game distribution program ever created. There's tons of great games available and many well established game publishers are signing onboard all the time. There MAY be some instances where "noobs" or "kids" or "punks" come in and try to cause trouble. But that doesn't make Ubisoft's decision bad. It happens in every online game. This game needs more exposure. It needs more players. I'm sick and tired of playing against 1-hit kill pilots who are frankly, just too damn good, lol and/or use aimbots and cheats. To each there own. I still have fun playing. It is the moderators of the respective servers to enforce the rules. Sometimes they don't and let their buddies do whatever they want i.e talk trash. But if someone not well known comes in and talks back, then they're the ones who get kicked. You complainers need to grow a pair and except reality.
There's a bigger world out there and Oleg's vision is coming to light. I highly doubt he wants only a few thousand people playing his games. This game needs more players, more servers, more exposure. It's not a bad thing. More ideas evolve from masses. It breathes life into a game. New champions emerge. New friends enter our world.
The people using STEAM are not all little immature noob jerks. Many of them are of our age. I play in a Half Life 2 Deathmatch Clan which has 25 members and pretty much all of them are 25-40 years old. A few members even have their kids play and it's hilarious to hear them talk and watch them play. They don't swear or do stupid things like that.
It's only a game. Let it be. Enjoy the ride. The world will be a better place when more people are having fun. Have any ideas? Let's fly!
A wise man once said "The only thing you have to fear, is fear itself".

God Bless,
thanks for reading

In closing i would just like to say i hope Hyperlobby remains free. If you think it can handle 1/4 of 500,000 people signing on you have another thing coming.

For those curious about STEAM you can check it out at:

Remember that Red Orchestra is ran through STEAM and its a far cry from CS. Also there is the Insurgency Mod for HL which is based more on realism then arcade. The point being there are many sim-minded players using STEAM including myself so the joypad noob comment is a little off the mark in my opinion.

Hyperlobby is owned and maintained by Jiri who has no affiliation with UBI or any publisher for that matter and was built so people like us could play for free and have a place to call home for sims online. In my opinion if not for him IL2 online would have died a long time ago and he is a hero to the simming community and would never dream of charging us to fly there.
