Having tracked a large convoy heading East on the Murmansk run, and after firing my loaded compliment of torps which resulted in the sinking of a C3, and hits on several other ships, I decide to break off the track and return to a Westernly course.

After nearly two hours or so on the surface two Flower class Corvettes stand on the horizon but something odd is taking place. I submerge and slowly move in to investigate. The two Corvettes appear to be engaged in survivor rescue operations or are searching for another sub. One is lit up with search lights while the other seems to be dead in the water. I slowly approach. Closer in it becomes clear one of the Corvettes is on fire and both are dead in the water. Licking my chops at their impending demise, and in very heavy seas I fire off my two reloaded fish and sink the burning Corvette, while missing the other entirely.

Presented with the problem of risking a shootout with this escort, I decide her apparent damaged condition gives me the advantage and I surface to make the final kill. Luckily, her main guns are out of action but her AA opens up on my bridge area. The heavy seas prevent me from using my deck guns but I now have one more reloaded fish and quickly dispatch the remaining Corvette.

In the action my ship sustained some light damage to the conn and upper hull and AA platform. This repaired I get underway again on a Western course. I save the game, and leave SH3. Now, this is where it gets strange.

Upon reopening the game, after it ques up and loads I begin to get the normal "sub net noise" hissing sound, (I'm using RUB v1.45) but that quickly turns into an intermitent crackling, and the sub interior lights go out, come on, flicker on and off several times over and over again realistically and suddenly there are sparks, lights flashing and flickering, and distinct crackling sounds of electrical circuitry overloading. I was dumbfounded. I'd never seen anything like this before in SH3. It was all perfectly choreographed and frankly scared the pss outta me. I sat there with mouth open not sure of what took place, but it sure looked real enough.

Still amazed at what was either something new I'd discovered in the game, or some weird circumstance of odd happenings which all came together in a million to one odd shot to make a scene which I surely wish were in the game if indeed it is not I finally decided it was something of the latter and perhaps never to be seen again. I have to give it to this game. Ya just never know what you'll see next. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Yeah it is, or something. (Always wondered about a script for Twlight Zone or Outer Limits where the game player is suddenly in the game for real - but that's a story for another day http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif )

There are indeed wav files for the electrical crackling noises, lights popping etc., and I swear they were a part of this apparent anomaly but how the lights went on and off and sparks flew from the lighting fixtures I'm at a total loss. Sure was pretty and pretty real looking. I'd really like to see that happen in the game when under wabos attack. I have no idea how this thing did what it did.

It does seem to happen when you've suffered some permanent damage. This last patrol when my conn was wiped out, everytime I loaded my saved game it would go throught the whole damage sound sequence.

The one time I must have saved on a lightning flash. I loaded with my volume on high, and then jumped out my seat as the thunder errupted. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

Ah HA! So there is some connection to the game. I noted the electrical circuitry wav files and figured there must be some routine for damage of that sort. And I think it was coincedence that the sub net noise on loadup, the hissing sound (not sure if that is related to RUB145 or not), but the hissing in this case became part of the show because it was interrupted by the electrical circuit wavs causing a hiss, crackle, and pop sound. Just like me breakfast but with a light show and sparks to boot. Was all pretty weird, but gave a darn nice show. Hmm, too bad it is not normally part of the act. Looked like something out of Das Boot.

I only get it if I have some sort of damage. Are you sure your at %100 hull integrity?

In my case I'm not sure. Only happened that one time, and I have the hull integrity text turned off. It is possible I had some minor hull damage due to the Corvettes AA guns raking my conn.
