I had hoped to ascertain proper function with a small pre-release trial period. I apologize if functionality is compromised because of this as this was not my intention for release today... but since it's up for download, and I think all should work...

white sun, blue sky is now available

Chris,

Profuse thanks in advance! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

I've just DL'd moments ago, and hope to join the AVG this weekend, if not before. Early war period interests me most, and this immense effort of yours looks to cast me back to a time when Tigers DID fly!

Hmmm...graphics are intensive in this campaign. It's been my pleasure to present the actions of my Heroes like this, twice.

This time, I've been fortunate enough to be in contact with the extended families of two Tigers, who gave me a poke in the right direction a few times. Also, the help of 3rd Squadron armorer, Chuck Baisden, was invaluable in clarifying some things for me in a general sense of my understanding of the events of '41 and '42

03-28-2007, 09:55 PM
well apparently you must be an admin there to d/l it...

Ah well - soon enough for us pleebs I guess.

I read that article a few months ago that Baisden assisted with in the ol' Flight Journal...You were able to contact him eh?

Good job there.

XyZspineZyX
03-28-2007, 10:01 PM
It's only available to admin now?

It wasn't earlier

It was supposed to be set up that way, to make 100% sure that everything was OK before general release

I apologize if anyone cannot d/l right now. All will be straightened out soon. I saw that it was available for general download about an hour ago. Please be patient for a day or so and I will smooth out any trouble.

I am sorry for the confusion. Half an hour ago it was general download so I announced it. 24 hours should clear that up

General download availability should be resumed today

There is an intermittent splash bug apparently. The splash screen works 100% of thime here, but has only worked on initial start up on the test install. Not a campaign breaker. I will replace with a fully functioning splash file later

I've DL'd the campaign but cannot locate the "skin pack" at M4T is there another name to look for it under? Okay, nevermind the link in the readme took me to a different page here is the exact location

Okay, I've Installed and I'm most of the way through the skins but I've got one small bump to get through; which skin folders do the 306 _wsbsAVG 1st,2nd and 3rd skins go to: Hawk 75 or P-40B? I really cant tell by looking and I want to get it right this might help others in the same position all other folders were pretty much self explanatory, Thanks in advance

Hi Kurt

Those skins have their destination named in both the skin pack name, and in the description http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

here's an example:

download name-
"WSBS Skin Pack #4 of 7: 2nd Squadron H81A-2"

download category-
Category IL-2 Series: Forgotten Battles & Pacific Fighters " Skins " Aircraft Type " Hawk " Hawk81A-2

download description-
H81A-2 Skin pack for campaign "white sun, blue sky"

Hope this helps, and enjoy the campaign

Just busted throught the first couple of missions, Chris, awesome stuff. My only gripe so far was an impossible bomber shot. That first one where they appear in formation and you scramble, I came in from a high 3 O'clock - to make a long story short, there was one burst from an MG which apparently hit my engine and stopped it completely. Those darn AI gunners! I was still .6 km out too! Oh well, I managed to severly damage one Ki-21 and kill another before I glided back and landed on a taxiway. Must've scared the ground crew like crazy.

Excellent job! I look forward to playing more.

Can't wait to try this one out. We seem to have a lot of great campaigns coming out recently, I'm half way through FlatSpinMan's Luftwaffe Battle of Britain. Trouble is, what with real life getting in the way I don't get a chance to play any of 'em...ah well, I'll DL now and hopefully get round to it in the next month or so!

By the way, Yellow_Sub, there is an updated DGen that includes Burma campaigns, have a look for Enjoyr's posts here or on SimHQ, I'm having a lot of fun flying spits over the Burma map.

from the readme http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif :

What's with the name?

The "White Sun and Blue Sky" was the emblem of the Chinese nationalist party. These emblems adorned the wings of the AVG's aircraft and are the 'colors' they flew under

That thunderstorm sortie to our new base just about got me. I elected to allow my leaders to depart first so I could pay attention to my departure. I got the bloody thing straight after a little fight, rotated, gear up and.......****, lost sight of everyone! Couldn't find them so I flew NW for a few seconds and spotted three fighters flying north. I formed up and bummer, they were Hurricanes! I broke off and headed north climbing above the clouds to gather my thoughts. Once I could think again, I saw the big lake, descended through the clouds to 500ft adjusted my heading a bit then heading north looking at the rivers. I came up on the south river and followed it shortly ne till I passed the bridge and north dogleg bend. There I headed north again when I spotted the light on the tower. Awsome...brought back memories of my J-3 Cub days when I was 18 years old...lol

about that issue where the guy started in a single plane already in the air, that will happen with this campaign if you select the highest rank because that single plane is in the same squadron as the group of three on the carrier that the player should be in. changing that single plane to a different squadron (doesn't matter which) will fix that issue. for some reason the 'AI Only' checkbox is useless, it has no effect on what planes the player can or cannot fly offline, so I really see no reason why it's there except possibly for Co-ops.

Nice Campaign, Have to say there may be too much stuff in your maps, especially when I never get low enough to see it. It can be a resource hog at times and I have a decent system that runs IL-2 1946 4.08 at 75fps constantly with vsync on it never drops below that in normal situations, but yer maps definitely bring it down a notch or two, I would hate to try this on my old system (AMD FX-53 and NVGeForce 7800GS). LOL... LockOn runs smoother . Still I'm enjoying it. Thanks for all the hard work.

Error loading mission -

I got as far as the eleventh mission - Jun 23 1943 Mingaladon mission (I won't mention after how many attempts..).

The mission does not load - the error message states: "mission loading failed: Mesh3do/humans/Paratroopers/Russia/mono.sim not created".

Any idea?

XyZspineZyX
09-07-2007, 03:36 PM
Well, that's a new one...so far out of 3100 downloads, you are the first person to report a mission failing to load. I really have no idea what could be wrong...but it's Jan 23rd 1942 for starters http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif and I will guess it's the first of the two missions on that day

I will say that I don't recall putting paratroopers in that mission, so i will make a guess that it is your install, not the campaign, that is causing the problem.

I am going through my notes I kept while making the campaign, and I see no issues reported with that mission, from playtesters or from me

I really have no idea what could be the problem. It doesn't seem to be from wsbs to me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Well, that's a new one...so far out of 3100 downloads, you are the first person to report a mission failing to load. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Thanks BBB462cid
It is 1942 indeed..
I am sure it is not the campaign, since I scanned all messages regarding it and found no trace of a problem.
D/L it and installed again - same results.
I will try mission builders forum, maybe someone will have an idea - the campaign is very enjoyable and i'd hate to miss it.

unfortunately, the mission builder's forum will not help, if the mission itself is not the issue, if you see what I mean

This seems like a patching or install issue

Do you have v4.07, or v 4.08?

Did you buy add-ons to get to 4.07, or did you simply buy Il2:1946?

Many strange issues can occur from patching. many players who feel they have patched correctly see odd issues that stem from the bizarre patching process

There is one other thing you can try- I have described it in the mission builder's forum

i bought the Il2:1946 dvd and patched for 4.08, so patching is probably not the issue.

I did the workaround you suggested and continued the campaign - thanks again

I only have about 6 missions left to play in this campaign, so I think I can have my say about it already:
It is absolutely one of the best, well composed, varied campaigns I ever played, and I guess pretty close to what actually happened.
First of all, the amount of work and detail put into maps is just astonishing; the airfields look so much better the way you added your touch to them (I assume it is your work?). Just a shame that none of the new maps of IL2 46 were used.
The variaty of the missions, the different locations and the time length of the average mission never made it boring or repetitive. It pretty much explains why I managed to reach the end of the 70+ mission campaign in about 1.5 month time (considering I only play 2-3 times/week).
The Hawk 81 is not my preferred weapon of choice (I really felt the lack of a heavier punch as in the P40E), but the enemy bombers and fighters used in the campaigns weren't well armoured, so that did offset the lack of punch a bit. And the fact that it was the historic accurate plane in this game, I came to respect it, and learned how fly it correct. A nice touch was the vast number of skins available for the 3 squadrons in the AVG group! Made it even better!!
The only thing I have to critizise are the few missions where the number of airplanes in the mission, were such frame rate killers. I thought they could have been scaled down a bit in magnitude. Ok, I was warned about it, and it probably had something to do with my computer as well, so I won't complain about it too much.
Overall, after shooting down over 72 airplanes, destroying over 40 ground targets, loosing about 16 airplanes and collecting over 20000 points along the way, I must say well done for this immense fantastic campaign!!
