I loaded SH3 with Grey Wolves 3.0 and loved it-until it kept crashing, usually during an intense convoy attack. Its extremely frustrating to stalk a convoy for a long time to watch it go to the "Blue Screen Of Death". The error messages are no help. Any Ideas on what this could be and how to correct it?

System specs? Stuff like this makes me think of a video card not being up to its job. Do you have a good video card or one that is integrated on the motherboard? My first experience with SH3 was poor because my system had an onboard sound processor. As soon as I upgraded to a separate sound card it ran smoothly.

Please tell me you didn't buy some cheap pile of Dell junk or something similar for $399. Those sorts of systems cut a lot of corners.

Or it could be something else. This sort of thing can be very difficult to solve remotely, which is why I chose not to go into tech support for a living.

But a look at your system specs is a good place to start.

It is usually a sign of a video card not up to snuff like Kaleun1961 said or, not enough ram to handle the graphics intensive scenes. Your system specs will tell us a lot.

The Game crashed to Blue screen again last night after an hour of game play. No intense action was happening. Error Message mentioned the Display drivers. here are my system specs: Processor is Intel Core 2 Quad CPU,Q9550@2.83 GHz 2.83 GHz. Memory{RAM} 8.00 GB, 64 bit system, Windows Vista.
Monitor is Dell PnP on NVidia GeForce GTX 285, 32 bit color, 2048x 1152 Pixel resolution. My son seems to think that the game simply can't run on this system, but I seem to recall reading several posts in these forums where people claimed to have it running and running well on Widows Vista. Any help would be appreciated.

As Kaleun1961 and HW3 have suggested your video card might be a good place for things to check. It might be caused by your computer overheating also. As has been mentioned, computer specs will help.

System specs seem alright to me. 8 GB, wow! I looked up the video card; it has 1 GB of RAM, so should be able to cope. I'm beginning to wonder if there's a problem with the video driver.

Where do you have the game installed? If you have the game installed to Program Files (x86) you'll need to reinstall SHIII. In Vista and Win 7 people have encountered problems the game installed there. Reinstall directly to your hard drive like C:\Ubisoft\SHIII.

Motherboard is: [SLI] eVGA Nvidia nFORCE 780i SLI Chipset w/7.1 Sound, Gb LAN,S-ATA Raid, USB 2.0 3-way PCI-E MB-3-Way SLI. Power Supply is 800Watt SLI Ready. Processor Cooling is CoolerMaster V8 CPU Cooling Fan System. And yes, Tambor198, we have the program files installed as you suggested.

specs look more than ready to handle the sim...have you copied the error messages?

Your system specs are fine.

Sh III only uses one processor but your fine there.

Any other games that cause problems?

What Mods do you use?

Anything running in the background?
IM programs or Anti-Virus stuff?

Thanks for the continuing responses, folks. No, bunkerratt,I didn't copy the messages, but twice I saw mention made of Dislpay Drivers. My son, who is more computer savvy than myself, said he could get no real useful information from the messages. He just feels that the program isn't compatible with the OS. As I stated before though, I see people in Forums claiming to have success with Windows 64 Vista. The only Mod I'm using is Grey wolves 3.0, and what puzzles me is that the program will run for an hour or more before it crashes. I do run ESET NOD 32 Antivirus on the system, but I've had no problems with anything else. as far as I can tell there is nothing else running in background.

bunkerratt, by Omega Drivers do you mean trying to find old drivers that were compatible with SH3?
Or just downloading the Nvidia drivers that are shown when you first access the site?

Hi,All. I tried the Omega drivers and waited to post until I saw what happened. The game crashed into the fourth hour of play. It went to desktop, not Blue screen. Here is the error message.

Thats the whole message, every line. Also, my son just reminded me that the SH3 DVD was puchased on EBay from Thailand. It worked fine before but I decided to mention it now just to eliminate any possiblie problems- that is if you think that could be a problem. Looking forward to hearing any feedback, folks. Thank You.

Are you living, playing this game in the US? Which patch have you applied to the game? There are separate patches depending on where you live. These are Europe, Middle East, Asia and American. Have you applied an American patch on a US game? I'm not sure myself why there are all these regional patches, but I do know that bad things can happen from using the wrong patch.

Yes, I live and play the game in the U.S.A. We had to apply the Asian Patch since we found out {after the purchase} that their were indeed "regional" patches, yet the game worked fine in its original form on my Windows 98SE system after the appropriate patch was installed. I wonder if buying the version sold here by UBISoft is worth a try? If not, does anyone have any further ideas? I have read on these forums where others are running this game with the same OS, and I love playing the GWX 3.0 version version, but this is so frustrating I'm almost ready to give up.

Don't give up just yet. I'm sure we'll be able to figure out a solution.

Thank You, Kaleun1961. I recently became disabled and this program, when it works, provides me with a pleasant diversion from my problems. Your kindness and that of so many others at this site means a great deal in a world where most folks seem to not want to be bothered.

Have you found a solution?

I have just bought the game and constantly get blue screen of death on XP...

I have to check stuff as well.
