Just stumbled across this link, it's a rendered video of the dogfight between Saburo Sakai in his Zero and Pug Southerland in his Wildcat near Guadalcanal, 7th August 1942:

I can't read Japanese, however the fight in the video seems very true to Sakai's book 'Samurai!'.

Hopefully this has not been posted yet, otherwise go check it again http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

You may or may not be aware of this but the video clip shown (above) is NOT the CG footage used on the History Channel show "Dogfights"...

This guy Masaru Tochibayashi duz some amazing work. His feel for animating air combat is top notch.

Thanks for the link...

Don't know who made the movie, could be Masaru Tochibayashi, but are you sure about that? I'd like to get a higher resolution video of this one. Here's another rendered video, probably by the same guy:

They fought for over five hours and when pug had the chance to kill the japanese pilot his machine guns were jammed.

Wow Zardozid you are right.Fantastic movie.
I would love to watch that on my big screen TV and have it narrated or with English subtitles.
Thanks for pointing that out,I almost didn"t watch since I have seen the show before.

Do you know of any other movies he has made?
I guess I need to Google this guy up.

Their is a link on the bottom of his web page (http://www.k4.dion.ne.jp/%7Esuppon/index.htm) that downloads a "sample (video)" from something listed as "works". In the clip their are excerpts from the "Sakai/Pug" animation. So I assume he (or a team he's involved with) did it.

Here is his web page. (http://www.k4.dion.ne.jp/%7Esuppon/index.htm) Examples of his animation can be found their...

If you can read Japanese it appears that he has some "Lightwave" tutorials (tips)...
