I have had a lot of trouble staying online with the latest patch that lets everyone fiddle with the checktime settings on their servers. I wonder how many actually know what the heII they are doing as I notice the settings are all over the place.

One of the few full real servers I can get on and not get kicked off of with a time out is greatergreen. Maybe the others can learn how to set up thier servers this way? I am in the Cleveland/Buffalo/Pittsburgh triangle. I don't know if geography is a factor or not. I thought greatergreen was on the west coast 2800 miles away.

I cannot play on WarClouds, Birds of Prey, or VFC host anymore. I tried Bajamaja and no dice there either.
I have seen many trials for 56kers over the last three years through the many patches of the il2 series and Hyperlobby.
I know how to setup my rig and keep it clean, and I have about the best hardware modem money can buy. So I appreciate suggestions on setup and this and that but I do not need any thank you. The problem is the current trendiness and obsession with the checktime settings and that is it. I have no problem running on servers that have the default, or close to default settings.

What were poeple doing or "getting away with" to make altering the default settings so attractive? Or maybe some poeple just can keep themselves from pressing a button that is put in front of thier face?(think History Eraser Button on Ren and Stimpy's Space Madness) I have had this sim as long as just about anyone online and I have seen a few strange things that might be attributable to keying a com or the print screen button, but rarely, and not enough to ruin anyone's fun.
If there are some out there that need to take advantage of holes in the program and networking to have fun on servers let them. Don't penalize everyone with a 56k connection becuase you can't stand the thought of some dumba$$ "cheating" So what if he gets away from you or someone. Go chase someone else that fits your special set of ideals.

When I see someone make a big deal of someone that might be cheating online I put them in the same category as those that incessantly whine about vulching or anything else. Too bad this patch they have been given a tool to impose their problem on the masses.

I have a bad 56k connect , I connect normally between 19200 and 31200 do to poor phone line quality. GG plays fine for me as long as there are not over 16 players in the serv.Easternhotshots also plays well to , other then that I dont know of any other dedicated 56 k friendly servers.

You might want to try to set netspeed lower.

Edit conf.ini with notepad and under the [Net] header set Speed = 4000 or lower.

A normal game is about 3kbps/player incoming on the server. Remember that the lowest of your upload and download counts - not the highest number... On a 56k line this generally is 28kbps or even lower http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif - Try seraching with Google for "Bandwidth" and test your bandwidth...

Firewalls (Norton in particular) can down your connection speed too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
Try switching it off - if its better then - get Sygate Personal FW (Free).

If you can connect to GG you should be able to connect to WarClouds too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Your connection quality is dependant on your Location and the server's Location, and the number of "Hops" (computers in-between you and the server). It is also HIGHLY dependant on the quality of your phone line... e.g. if you live in the country side and have one line going out and there's some old maidens on it yapping all day http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif - congestion --> packet loss --> kick http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Ok, here we go.

If you don't have call waiting get it. You automatically get a high grade line that it needs to run. I have seen this alone take a line up from 28k to the high forties/low fifties. And I have three US Robotics hardware modems. The external one that connects with a serial cable always gives a better ping than the internals. Drawback is it was a hundred bucks. S!

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I have call waiting , i disable it before i dail up to keep incomeing interfernce down. I have an extrernal 56k us robotics modem < its the only one that will work over my Sh!tty phone lines the rest of them deconnect as soon as i get to pushing them.I also run adware 6.0 and spybot1.3 to keep background traffic down and I have everything disabled anything that is not important. I also have heavy gauge phone wire going strait to my access box on the side of the house ,I have it wired into there side not mine because it bumped me up over 19200 when i did it i mainly connect at 26400 now sometimes as fast as 31200 ......so check, check and check
