I was wondering if someone could enlighten me with information as to weather we will be able to run the game BOB in higher resolution and still see the dots at range.

As it stands now in the current game we all know that dots tend to get very very small when you try run the game in a resolution that makes the game look better, but can become almost impossible to spot enemy.

I am sorry if this has been covered anywhere else as I must have missed it .

oh god i hope they make bob so you can run a modern resolution, without the dam dots disappering.

I agree. Visibility is an issue in this game. Resolution isn't the only factor, though. Inconsistent LOD and draw distance is a problem. Also the aircraft surfaces are too consistent with the background.The flat shades and tones don't differ from landscape, they are not reflective, and eye catching motion blur/distortion is missing.

It's not just an issue, it's a HUGE ISSUE. I'd go as far to say that it's a big black eye to a sim that's so reknowned for its eye candy.

Seeing the enemy is actually THE most important single issue in air combat. Your weapons, your maneuverability, your speed are all meaningless if you can't see the enemy and bring them to bear.

IL-2 is a sim in which an altitude advantage has been turned into a marked DISADVANTAGE. This completely contradicts all historical evidence. There is a reason why many fighter pilots just didn't feel comfortable until they had 3, 4 or 5 km of alt under their wings before looking for trouble. You either went as close to the ground as you could (NOE) or you wanted some altitude, and the tactical options that came with it.

I'm fairly new at flying on-line and have noticed a difficulty in tracking dots. I wondered what resolution others have been runnign to get best dot resolution? I've been at 1280 x 960 but maybe I need to step it down a notch or 2.

NO, you should not have to "step down" your resolution from settings as universally accepted as 1280 x 768 or 1280 x 960.

It's the fault of the SIM'S GRAPHICS if you can't see dots at standard resolutions. Why should you have to go down to 800 x 600 and forego the supposedly wonderful eye candy just to be able to see?

Also, it appears that nVidia cards do much better than ATI cards in this respect, but again: ATI is one of the most universal, popular and accepted vid cards around; it should be supported (or accounted for).

Visuals are just TOO important to air combat for them not to be visible when they should be visible.

If i want to survive or increasing my chances of engaging bandits im forced to use 1024x768 and antialsing 2xq that puts dots a bit more in evidence.
