I've got an Idea for someone (or a group of ppl) who would like to contribute to the community to do.

Gather up a skin pack for FB+ACE+PF. Include two or three skins for each AC, only the best of the best, and make them available for download in an archive that distributes them to the correct folders in FB.

This would be awesome for ppl new to skins, and lazy ppl like myself who get overwhelmed by the sheer volume available @ IL2skins.

Naturally, this would be a huge download, so maybe it could be broken up by country, front, or AI/ flyable.

Georgeo, that is a great idea! I have hundreds of skins backed up that I need to reinstall after my last reformat, but have been way to lazy to do all the clicking that it takes to put them back into the game. One click could save me hours of work!!!

I'd do it, but I don't have the time.

It's a cool idea. A little tricky as personal prefrance plays a big part. What I might think is cool the next guy might think is boring or not well done. But in principle I think its a good idea.

Good idea. Maybe like:
1. Standard camo
2. Winter camo
3. Ocean "camo" (where appropriate)
4. Bare metal (where appropriate)
5. Racing paint (where appropriate)

If done in the smaller size (500K), it might not be so bad.

I'm no skinner, but I can offer to whip up a Windows Script to distribute the contents of the pack to the correct location. (unless or until I get my Vis Studio install fixed I can't compile executables, so I'm stuck with VBS)

sounds good ddt
im going for manly 1 skin for a type of plane where possible, to save on bw, and my sainity http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

also for onwhine, theres no point in having basicaly the same skin, with slightly diff panel lines.

so can u extract same file to different folders ddt?
eg corsair3colour.bmp to all teh f4u/corsair folders?

Yup, shouldn't be a problem. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Extracting it from the zip automatically might be a problem, but with XP, maybe not. I'll have to try that. But worst case, the user could extract them to a single, new directory and then run the script and it'll all be taken care of from there.

However........come to think of it, it should be possible to zip the contents up in such a fashion that extraction will drop them into the directories automatically. Don't know why I didn't think of that at first. Must have scripting on the brain after making my last one. doh! lol

If you make a copy of the Paintschemes/Skins/ACxxx files under C:/ & zip them from there, it will save the correct file path for extracting to the FB/ directory. There are only about 100 planes now. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Serval's skin manager would be ideal for this...

Get it from- www.1java.org/sh/ (http://www.1java.org/sh/)

if everyone have this pack, then we may be able to choose our own skin when flying online, instead of using default every time.

Larry,
What I do is just copy and paste my PaintSchemes folder to a backup source. Then when I need to get my skins back after a reinstall or such, I just copy and paste them back in the game. Similar to what bird_brain does.
