So ok I admit I upset a few folks last night and by way of an apology I give you a few of my favourite things

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

feel free to sing along ...........

raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens
brown paper packages tied up with strings
these are a few of my favourite things

cream coloured ponies and crisp apple strudels
doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
these are a few of my favorite things

girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
snowflakes that stay on my nose and eye-lashes
silver white winters that melt into springs
these are a few of my favorite things

when the dog bites, when the bee stings, when i'm feeling sad
i simply remember my favourite things and then i don't feel so bad

Well it makes me feel better http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

This one is for those of you who dont like the sound of music (for shame) and probably is more in keeping with the thread title.

a 1 2 3 4 sing

Even when the darkest clouds are in the sky
You mustn't sigh and you mustn't cry
Spread a little happiness as you go by
Please try

What's the use of worrying and feeling blue
When days are long keep on smiling through
Spread a little happiness till dreams come true

Surely you'll be wise to make the best of every blues day
Don't you realize you'll find next Monday or next Tuesday
Your golden shoes day

Even when the darkest clouds are in the sky
You mustn't sigh and you mustn't cry
Spread a little happiness as you go by

I've got a creed for every need
So easy that it must succeed
I'll set it down for you to read
So please, take heed
Keep out the gloom
Let in the sun
That's my advice for everyon
It's only once we pass this way
So day by day

Even when the darkest clouds are in the sky
You mustn't sigh and you mustn't cry
Spread a little happiness as you go by
Please try

What's the use of worrying and feeling blue
When days are long keep on smiling through
Spread a little happiness till dreams come true

Surely you'll be wise to make the best of every blues day
Don't you realize you'll find next Monday or next Tuesday
Your golden shoes day

Even when the darkest clouds are in the sky
You mustn't sigh and you mustn't cry
Spread a little happiness as you go by

(whistling solo)

Surely you'll be wise to make the best of every blues day
Don't you realize you'll find next Monday or next Tuesday
Your golden shoes day

Even when the darkest clouds are in the sky
You mustn't sigh and you mustn't cry
Spread a little happiness as you go by

Ok were stretching it here but what about this one in your Best Jack Nicholson Voice :-

MARIA
I feel pretty,
Oh, so pretty,
I feel pretty and witty and bright!
And I pity
Any girl who isn't me tonight.

I feel charming,
Oh, so charming
It's alarming how charming I feel!
And so pretty
That I hardly can believe I'm real.

See the pretty girl in that mirror there:
Who can that attractive girl be?
Such a pretty face,
Such a pretty dress,
Such a pretty smile,
Such a pretty me!

I feel stunning
And entrancing,
Feel like running and dancing for joy,
For I'm loved
By a pretty wonderful boy!

GIRLS
Have you met my good friend Maria,
The craziest girl on the block?
You'll know her the minute you see her,
She's the one who is in an advanced state of shock.

She thinks she's in love.
She thinks she's in Spain.
She isn't in love,
She's merely insane.

It must be the heat
Or some rare disease,
Or too much to eat
Or maybe it's fleas.

Keep away from her,
Send for Chino!
This is not the
Maria we know!

Modest and pure,
Polite and refined,
Well-bred and mature
And out of her mind!

MARIA
I feel pretty,
Oh, so pretty
That the city should give me its key.
A committee
Should be organized to honor me.

GIRLS
La la la la . . .

MARIA
I feel dizzy,
I feel sunny,
I feel fizzy and funny and fine,
And so pretty,
Miss America can just resign!

GIRLS
La la la la . . .

MARIA
See the pretty girl in that mirror there:

GIRLS
What mirror where?

MARIA
Who can that attractive girl be?

GIRLS
Which? What? Where? Whom?

MARIA
Such a pretty face,
Such a pretty dress,
Such a pretty smile,
Such a pretty me!

GIRLS
Such a pretty me!

ALL
I feel stunning
And entrancing,
Feel like running and dancing for joy,
For I'm loved
By a pretty wonderful boy!

There

Ohh and at this point I would like to point out that I am happily married and No I am not seeking an alternative lifestyle.

I genuinely think that there would be a lot less hate in the world if we all learned to sing one of these songs at least once a day

Wasn't it Christopher Plummer, one of the stars in The Sound of Music, who always referred to it as "The Sound of Mucus". Personally, I liked the movie and enjoy singing most of the songs from the musical.

So I'll join you in singing along tHeBalrOgRoCks.

Now now only happy thoughts in here tonight I promised the missus.

Here is one for those of you who like a challenge but I take no responsabilty for any injury sufferd whilst attempting this one :-

GENERAL:

I am the very model of a modern Major-General,
I've information vegetable, animal, and mineral,
I know the kings of England, and I quote the fights historical
From Marathon to Waterloo, in order categorical;
I'm very well acquainted, too, with matters mathematical,
I understand equations, both the simple and quadratical,
About binomial theorem I'm teeming with a lot o' news,
With many cheerful facts about the square of the hypotenuse.

ALL:
With many cheerful facts about the square of the hypotenuse.
With many cheerful facts about the square of the hypotenuse.
With many cheerful facts about the square of the hypotenuse.

GENERAL:
I'm very good at integral and differential calculus;
I know the scientific names of beings animalculous:
In short, in matters vegetable, animal, and mineral,
I am the very model of a modern Major-General.

ALL:
In short, in matters vegetable, animal, and mineral,
He is the very model of a modern Major-General.

GENERAL:
I know our mythic history, King Arthur's and Sir Caradoc's;
I answer hard acrostics, I've a pretty taste for paradox,
I quote in elegiacs all the crimes of Heliogabalus,
In conics I can floor peculiarities parabolous;

I can tell undoubted Raphaels from Gerard Dows and Zoffanies,
I know the croaking chorus from the Frogs of Aristophanes!
Then I can hum a fugue of which I've heard the music's din afore,
And whistle all the airs from that infernal nonsense Pinafore.

ALL:
And whistle all the airs from that infernal nonsense Pinafore.
And whistle all the airs from that infernal nonsense Pinafore.
And whistle all the airs from that infernal nonsense Pinafore.

GENERAL:
Then I can write a washing bill in Babylonic cuneiform,
And tell you ev'ry detail of Caractacus's uniform:
In short, in matters vegetable, animal, and mineral,
I am the very model of a modern Major-General.

ALL:
In short, in matters vegetable, animal, and mineral,
He is the very model of a modern Major-General.

GENERAL:
In fact, when I know what is meant by "mamelon" and "ravelin",
When I can tell at sight a Mauser rifle from a javelin,
When such affairs as sorties and surprises I'm more wary at,
And when I know precisely what is meant by "commissariat",
When I have learnt what progress has been made in modern gunnery,
When I know more of tactics than a novice in a nunnery--
In short, when I've a smattering of elemental strategy,
You'll say a better Major-General has never sat a gee.

ALL:
You'll say a better Major-General has never sat a gee.
You'll say a better Major-General has never sat a gee.
You'll say a better Major-General has never sat a gee.

GENERAL:
For my military knowledge, though I'm plucky and adventury,
Has only been brought down to the beginning of the century;
But still, in matters vegetable, animal, and mineral,
I am the very model of a modern Major-General.

ALL:
But still, in matters vegetable, animal, and mineral,
He is the very model of a modern Major-General.

And the mind's true liberation

Three little maids from school are we
Pert as a school-girl well can be
Filled to the brim with girlish glee
Three little maids from school

Everything is a source of fun
Nobody's safe, for we care for none
Life is a joke that's just begun
Three little maids from school

Three little maids who, all unwary
Come from a ladies' seminary
Freed from its genius tutelary
Three little maids from school
Three little maids from school

One little maid is a bride, Yum-Yum
Two little maids in attendance come
Three little maids is the total sum
Three little maids from school
Three little maids from school

From three little maids take one away
Two little maids remain, and they
Won't have to wait very long, they say
Three little maids from school
Three little maids from school

Three little maids who, all unwary
Come from a ladies' seminary
Freed from its genius tutelary
Three little maids from school
Three little maids from school

I never wanted to do this job in the first place!
I... I wanted to be...

A LUMBERJACK!

(piano vamp)

Leaping from tree to tree! As they float down the mighty rivers of
British Columbia! With my best girl by my side!
The Larch!
The Pine!
The Giant Redwood tree!
The Sequoia!
The Little Whopping Rule Tree!
We'd sing! Sing! Sing!

Oh, I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay,
I sleep all night and I work all day.

CHORUS: He's a lumberjack, and he's okay,
He sleeps all night and he works all day.

I cut down trees, I eat my lunch,
I go to the lava-try.
On Wednesdays I go shoppin'
And have buttered scones for tea.

Mounties: He cuts down trees, he eats his lunch,
He goes to the lava-try.
On Wednesdays 'e goes shoppin'
And has buttered scones for tea.

CHORUS

I cut down trees, I skip and jump,
I like to press wild flowers.
I put on women's clothing,
And hang around in bars.

Mounties: He cuts down trees, he skips and jumps,
He likes to press wild flowers.
He puts on women's clothing
And hangs around.... In bars???????

CHORUS

I chop down trees, I wear high heels,
Suspendies and a bra.
I wish I'd been a girlie
Just like my dear papa.

Mounties: He cuts down trees, he wears high heels
Suspendies?? and a .... a Bra????
(spoken, raggedly) What's this? Wants to be a *girlie*? Oh, My!
And I thought you were so rugged! Poofter!

CHORUS

All: He's a lumberjack, and he's okaaaaaaayyy..... (BONG)

Sound Cue: The Liberty Bell March, by John Phillip Sousa.

How do you solve
A problem like Maria?
How do you catch
A cloud and pin it down?
How do you find a word
That means Maria?
A flibberti gibbet!
A willo' the wisp!
A clown!

Many a thing you know
You'd like to tell her,
Many a thing she ought
To understand.
But how do you make her say,
And listen to all you say?
How do you keep a wave
Upon the sand?
Oh, how do you solve
A problem like Maria?
How do you hold
A moonbeam in your hand?

OK, Balrog of Morgoth! I give up, but just because I've never heard any of the songs you sang. And it should be fair enough if I start singing:

Starts like a requiem:

Very nice I will have to look that one up

Anyhoo a lot of these tunes are from Famous Musicals of the 60's such as 'The sound of Music' Some are from Gillbert and Sullivan and some well I think you get the picture.

Ankanor

Yes, I get it. my Western music education started in the last decade of 20th century, so perhaps i should start "New Kids on the Block" or Roxette. Yep, Roxette http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I once knew a girl / I can't remember her name but I remember her face cos her sister looked the same.

They both left school, but they couldn't find a job / So they said farewell and stole a small town car.

As they were riding by the beach some summer night / The radio shouted out one of those songs that might just change your life / - It went like this: "Checkin' in checkin' out / Making love I like watching all your fireworks / I like it when I light those stars in your eyes / Just like fireworks in the sky" / - yes it did...

Throwing some poems to the ports and docks / They were sleeping outdoors pushing all their luck.

They sent me a letter full of pills and thrills / Then they both got rich and moved to Hollywood Hills.

Yea they made lots of money playing folk guitar / Cos everywhere the boys went crazy just to hear these words of art: "Checkin' in checkin' out / Take it to the sky / Making love I like watching all your fireworks / I like it when I light those stars in your eyes / Just like fireworks in the sky".

They're coming to get you / They're coming to get you now / Coming to get you now / Watch the sky!

Now, my neighbours just visited me with a letter of notification "No loud singing at 3 am, please" I bet next time they'll call the police. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Lol almost but new kids on the block would have been 'camper'.

Also uplifting is the key like something you sing in the bathtub. But it no big deal guess you have a little catching up to do so here is another freebie and a classic from the musical Oklahoma.

And it helps if we all sing along together folks so dont be shy

Few shots of whisky would help around now as my voice is starting to fade lol

ok here goes (ahem)

Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain
And the wavin' wheat can sure smell sweet
When the wind comes right behind the rain.
Oklahoma, Ev'ry night my honey lamb and I
Sit alone and talk and watch a hawk
Makin' lazy circles in the sky.

We know we belong to the land
And the land we belong to is grand!
And when we say
Yeeow! Ayipioeeay!
We're only sayin'
You're doin' fine, Oklahoma!
Oklahoma O.K.

That is from the OST of "The Return of the King", performed by Annie Lennox:

Lay down
Your sweet & weary head
Night is falling
You have come to journey's end

Sleep now
Dream-of the ones who came before
They are calling
From across a distant shore

Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away

Safe in my arms
You're only sleeping

What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?

Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come
To carry you home

And all will turn to silver glass
A light on the water
All souls pass

Hope fades
Into the world of night
Through shadows falling
Out of memory and time

Don't say
We have come now to the end
White shores are calling
You and I will meet again

And you'll be here in my arms
Just sleeping

What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?

Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come
To carry you home

And all will turn to silver glass
A light on the water
Grey ships pass
Into the West

Frankly, this song melts my heart. And combined with the situation I'm in... Dani, you're so far away, yet you're so close to me http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

I'm gonna get it for this...

Just a little something I wroite a few years ago.

****************************************

On the second day of masturbatory May
The boys and the men all had it their way
The women complained and shouted real loud
And snivelled that they were left out of the crowd

For the art is an art, a male art you see
An art form to you and an art form to me
But the women are newbies and don€t do it real good
They need a man€s help to be done as it should

€œWe€re all experts€ I said to my sweetie last night
She looked stunned and surprised and frozen in fright
€œWhat is your problem? Have you all gone insane?€
I explained to her €œBaby, it€s simply our game.€

From the very first Playboy, to Penthouse and better
We scan every picture and read every letter
From the age of a teen to the oldest old prude
We conduct our experiments and don€t think it€s rude

A man is a man, we€re all spankers you see
We provide our own fun, we provide our own glee
You women are great, don€t get us wrong
But how often are you there in a nightie and thong?

We can€t wait forever, we€re animals at heart
And can€t wait for €œmaybe Saturday€ before we can start
We€ll do it ourselves, with confidence too
If you could do it as well, you€d do it times two

We conduct our experiments, sometimes unfrocked
And safe sex is the safest when the door she is locked
To be caught in the act by the wifey, bad luck
Brings scorn and contempt and €œPut your pants on you shmuck!€

Then they question themselves and wonder €œis it all me?€
€œDo I still do it for him? Is he bored? Possibly€
€œWell tonight I€ll make changes, into a nightie and thong€
€œAnd I€ll show that dumb man that his self love is wrong€

So now the girls are involved, to prove they€re needed
After all of these years our begging is heeded
Now the stigma is gone, we€ve removed the old hex
There€s now proof that wanking leads to great sex

As a stand in for my gawdawful voice I have this smokey voiced platinum blonde with the stilleto jackboots and black cheroot....

Well ladies and Gentlemen I would firstly like to thank the band So lets give it up for the boys of the 'delicate sound of silence'.

Also let us not for get all those who brought the nights performance for you

BSS_Goat, Blairgowrie, and NegativeGee on Backing vocals

Ankanor for his revivalist hippy rendition, Bulgarian Folk songs and Elfen balads. Not too mention a brief flash back to the 80's

Beirut and the Five finger band's somewhat dubious tribute to self love http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

CivilDog for his excellent impersintion of Eva Brown singing lili Marleen

And last but by no means least Monty thrud for his belly wobbling rendition of 'If I were a rich man' and tribute to they boys from Python http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I am BaLrOg and although I am an obtuse little wierdo I hope some how we all manged to reach out and touch someone tonight http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

And now Mr Maestro will you play ?

And now, the end is near;
And so I face the final curtain.
My friend, I'll say it clear,
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain.

I've lived a life that's full.
I've traveled each and ev'ry highway;
But more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Regrets, I've had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

I planned each charted course;
Each careful step along the byway,
But more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew.
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up and spit it out.
I faced it all and I stood tall;
And did it my way.

I've loved, I've laughed and cried.
I've had my fill; my share of losing.
And now, as tears subside,
I find it all so amusing.

To think I did all that;
And may I say - not in a shy way,
"No, oh no not me,
I did it my way".

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels;
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows -
And did it my way!

Thank you and Good night and Don't forget to tune in next time
