View Full Version : OT - My favorite thing about Superbowl Sunday

My favorite part of SuperBowl Sunday, of course when Da Boyz are not in it, is to watch the past SuperBowl highlights that ESPN2 shows starting Sunday early morning.

I love watching the highlights from all of the past SuperBowls. You get to see all of the great games that went on, the glory of victory, the misery and second-guessing of defeat.

A few quick SuperBowl facts:

- Emmitt Smith is the first running back to win the rushing crown and the SuperBowl in the same year.

- The Cowboys have been to the most SuperBowls, 8 and tied with San Fran for the most wins, 5.

- Dallas LB Chuck Howley is the only MVP ever voted from the losing team in SuperBowl V.

- The Bills are the only team ever to make it to four straight SuperBowls. Yet, also hold the dubious distinction of losing 4 straight as well. Bills stands for:

Boy

I

Love

Losing

SuperBowls http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

- Dallas holds the distinction of causing the most turnovers in the SuperBowl. 9 by Buffalo in SuperBowl XXVII, 8 by Denver in SuperBowl XII and 7 by Baltimore in SuperBowl V.

- Jerry Rice has more combined yards, 604, than any player in SuperBowl history. (4 games played).

What's your favorite thing about SuperBowl Sunday?

Remembering that I've been to THREE of 'em, in Minneapolis, Atlanta and the Rose Bowl. None of which went my team's way. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif

My favorite about the Superbowl used to be the pizza and wings...I love wings. I love wings more than darn near anything. Except maybe my wife. If a delicious wing and my wife were both hanging off a cliff, I'd have to pause to think. Just kidding wife!

Now, I have no favorite thing about Superbowl Sunday. Mostly because I no longer watch football. I could only stand the Bills losing so much! I used to be a Buffalo man. Now, I don't have to worry about who wins or loses!

10 pounds...Oh, that's good...

I recently went to Erie's "Wing Cook Off" where they name the best wings in Erie. I tell you, there were some good wings there. More flavors than you can imagine. A few years ago, I didn't think there was anything other than mild, medium, and hot. But Hot's still my favorite...

Just think Steve, not too long ago and these things were thrown away as scrap! Now, people can't get enough of them!

Ah, Roger The Dodger. That pic brings back some great memories. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif The only guy from that era who could scramble better was Tarkenton. But, like the poor Bills, the Vikings are O for in the SuperBowl, too. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

He was my hero as a child growing up and the main reason I've been a Cowboys fan since 1969 (Staubach's Rookie Year). To think if he also had those extra four years he spent in the Navy to play in the NFL, he might have made it to a couple of more SuperBowls. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Although, I do understand the importance of duty over sports.http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Mmmmmm....hot wings. I once got the thermo-nuclear ones from Cluck_U_Chicken and seriously, I thought I was going to die. I like spicey foods, but those were just downright mean! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

"CLUCK U CHICKEN" is the only wing place that I know of that sports the notorious "911" wing. It is even more potent than "thermo-nuclear." In fact, one must sign a waiver/disclaimer in order to purchase one, so that CLUCK U is not responsible for the damages. We made a 50 dollar bet with a friend that he couldn't down two of them. He thought he was clever by swalling them whole (he was a very large guy). His face turned red and he was subsequently hospitalized for a stomach pumping procedure. We decided to give him the 50 bucks after he was released from the hospital two days later. True story, boyscouts honor.

Those are definitely some seriously wicked wings. Ah, "911" that's the one that you have to sign for...I couldn't remember which ones they were. Brutal wings at Cluck-U, just plain brutal.

The Patriots can tie Dallas for another SuperBowl distinction today with a victory and becoming the 2nd team in history to win 3 SuperBowls in 4 years. Dallas did it in 92, 93 and 95.

And if it wasn't for starting RT Erik Williams getting in that car accident in 1994 and his replacement, then rookie Larry Allen, having a twisted ankle, Dallas might have made it 4 in a row. Well, the three turnovers in the 1st quarter didn't help much either, giving SF a 21-0 lead.http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Looking back, it wasn't any team in the league that beat the '90s Cowboys, it was the salary cap.

What I like best about the Superbowl this year is that neither the Cowboys or the Broncos will be there-lived in Arizona during my teens (the '60s) and CBS and NBC thought that our market would identify with these teams, so they rammed them down our throats every stinkin' Sunday.

I didn't know anybody that didn't come from those areas that rooted for those teams-we heartily dispised them, and rooted for anybody else. I already hated Danny White and Bob Bruenig for playing for Arizona State-you can imagine my glee at 'The Catch' by Dwight Clark.

I've passed up higher paying transfers and job offers to Texas and Colorado because I could never stomach the State Sports religions...give me coverage of my Chargers, my Padres, my Suns and the University of Arizona or give me (gag! choke!)... soccer, rhythmic gymnastics, men's volleyball, or curling.

cheers

Being on the East coast and smack dab in the middle of Giants and Eagles country, I've always enjoyed getting to see Dallas play on regular TV at least half of their season, if you count MNF appearances and Thanksgiving.

I have DSS with the NFL package for the rest of the games. I've been to the old Vet stadium at least 7 times to see Dallas and the Meadowlands 3 times, twice against the Giants and once against the Jets in 1993. The Jets game I was on the 50 yd line, 10 rows behind the Dallas bench. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I was at Michael Irvin's last game on Oct 10th, when he suffered the career-ending neck injury on a cheap shot. He was on his way down in the arms o f a tackler and some guy speared him as he was inches from the turf. But, then again, the Eagles are known for that BS league-wide.

The sad part was and is always the Philly crowd at the stadium that day. Cheering that someone got hurt and making references to Deion being next. Bunch of drunken ignoramuses those fans were in the 700 sections of Vet Stadium. Be sure.

Although, I do not like the Pats infringing on Dallas' SuperBowl records, I am very thankful they beat those Eagles. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

All in all, was a great game, but in my opinion, Donovan McNabb is the reason they lost. He's usually the reason they lose.

Makes stupid mistakes, throws the ball everywhere but in the receivers hands and seems to find a way to choke whenever the game is on the line. It took him four tries just to win the NFC Championship game. Hopefully, they won't get another shot at the SuperBowl for awhile. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
