That was not a real German design, it was just made up for the movie.

I doubt that design would even get off the ground.

An aircraft similar very similar in design was made by (i believe-i'll have to verify) macdonald douglass after WWII. It was a prototype aircraft testing various design features. It could fly. I believe some of the wing designs for the Phantom and later F4 Phantom II related back to the testing of this aircraft.

Of course the prototype had much larger propellers (in fact I think it had two counter rotating propellers on each engine.
