Well, got you this far. How about letting everyone know what your age bracket is. I'll just say I'm comfortably middle-aged.

If IL-2 had been around when I was 15 it would have been bliss. My best friend and I loved to build WWII aircraft and armor models (we saw BoB at least 4 times); the best we could do for gaming at the time were those Avalon-Hill board games.

49 with a birthday in a few months - AARP time!!!

Those Avalon Hill board games were pretty good. The computer versions were great too. I wasted as much time on those as I have on this game. I wish they ran on modern computers.

If you liked the Avalon Hill games you can get Close Combat: Cross of Iron. It is an updated version of Close Combat III (the best of the 5 game series) and has been updated to run on modern PCs. The graphics are still 10 years old, but the AI is better than it used to be.

24 here. I'm so glad I wasn't born earlier. What the heck would I do without Flight sims - joysticks - throttle quadrandts - and TrackIR4 ?! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

When I was smaller, I built aeroplanes of wood, and I had to run up and down the road doing the engine sound with my mouth. I'm not a year older in my mind now, but flight simming feels much better.http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think this "flying thing" is from my Grandfather ,who's 78, and wakes up early every morning just to fly around with his R/C plane http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

What kinda toys will there be by the time I'm 80? (if I live that long)

I have a wardrobe full of those board games from Avalon Hill, Jedcko etc. Wow we used to spend hours playing them and arguing on how to interpret the rules.
I remember setting up Fire in the East (Europa) and spending a hole school holiday trying to play it out.
Oh yeah I am to old to be playing games, at least that is what 'the boss' says.

Yay!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/partyhat.gif

When I was a kid (was?!?!) and when I couldn't afford the plastic versions at the hobby shop, I built model planes and tanks out of empty cerial boxes. I would draw exploded veiws of the subject on the inside suface of the box, carefully cut them out, and glue them together. I got pretty good at it after a while and built some fairly sophisticated models, especially the tanks and in particular, German PzIIs, IIIs, IVs, V Panthers, and both VI Tiger tanks - because they were all so boxy in shape and relatively easy to assemble.

Thanks for the link...at least the latest batch of nuggets (myself included) gets to see where everyone else is age wise. I'd be suprised if the participation here hits 200; things were sure different here 4 years ago (as for me at that time I never tried a serious flight sim nor ever considered doing so). And BTW, I just turned 49 years young.

59. Thank goodness I grew up in peaceful times thanks to previous generations sacrifice. Looking at my flight sim record I would never have survived the real thing. When flying in a light plane for real I am queasy but then so was Molders on his first 20 ops. and look what happened to him.

I'm a month short of my 41st birthday. I had scores of model kits of planes when I was a lad.
Does anyone remember those brilliant dinky toy metal planes? I had the spitfire and me 109 with the motorised prop, and a p47, zero and hurricane. And the stuka with the bomb you could put a cap in so when it hit the ground it went bang. Anyone else have any of these?
By the way, my son who is trainee 117 is better then me on all my pc games and sims, this one included. It's not fair!

Carved my first a/c models in solid wood with a penknife using 1/72 scale plans from 194? editions of Jane's All the Worlds Aircraft. I think I had about 3 editions. Wish I had them now, they'd be worth a fortune.http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

... Here's my rational for the brackets:

less that 18 =-> Teenagers
18 to 25 =-> College aged (demographic for most gamers)
25 to 35 =-> Post college
35 to 45 =-> Possibly married and family raising
45 to 60 =-> Middle aged
more than 60 =-> Retired or near it, hopefully

Not perfect, but my feeble attempt to get past the ordinary decade sort of thing. Check this post (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/7891071686?r=7541003686#7541003686) for a possibly more suitable age poll. BTW, it was suprising to me how 'old' a lot of us are.

Completely agree!

I turned 50 in June, and now I see I'm already lumped in with retiree's (65).

AARP sent me my first mailing on my birthday, now that I'm 15 whole years away from being 65. I'm wondering if the person who started this poll, either:

a) works for AARP, or
b) somehow see's folks at 50 having more in common with 65 year olds than 45 year olds.

Young whippersnapper!

It would be very interesting I think to see how the details breakdown between 35 and 65. Most of the folks I fly with are 35 and older with most between 38 and 60.
