View Full Version : New System Video Card Advice Please

This week I'm ordering a new PC and have PF graphics as one key objective. Without listing all the specs, it is set to be a 3.2 Ghz Premium P4 with 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x512). Still undecided on video card.

Based on earlier threads (which I haven't been able to find tonight), I'm leaning toward the 256 mb ATI Radeon X800 XT. On my current system, I've had good luck with the sim on a Radeon 9700 TX.

What are the pros and cons on the X800? Any other recommendations.

I'm technically "challenged," so give it to me in small bites in simple terms please. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks, dieg777. These links and one more I found in the community help forum explain the tradeoffs. ATI and Nvidia are both getting better at turning 2D to 3D. And it looks like both the X800 XT and GeForce 6800 boards are a little behind the curve with new units on the way (always true).

Half my graphic applications are tied to flight sims, the other half to photo and DVD production. If I understand, the Nvidia (GeForce) board should provide some advantages in pixel "shading" and improve the water effects in PF. Both can handle the other apps.

Thanks again for the input.

Saty with ATI. Read the plethora of posts on people who regretted getting Nvidias for this game.

FPS is the main issue with Nvidia.

Get an OEM Gigabyte 9800XT and you should do well.
