Just found out that Art Sager passed yesterday.

Art was a RCAF Spit pilot from BC, who had 6 kills in the war. He finished the war as S/L of 443 Sqadron.

I first met Art a couple years back at one of the Vancouver Island Aircrew Association lunches I was privileged to attend - and was lucky enough to have spent some time with him at other luncheons.

He was author of a great book titled "Line Shoot". I was lucky enough to receive a signed copy from him.

Art was a great guy and full of life to the very end.

He was a great supporter of the Spitfire Y2K project up Island where they are rebuilding a Spit lX. Just last April he made the 3 hour drive up to Comox for the open house where I snapped this photo. He spent the day happily signing autographs and photos and drawings of Spits.

Last year on Remembrance Day I hosted Art and 60 other pilots for a lunch at the hotel I manage. This August I had them all down again and Art was still talking about it.
I told him it was nothing after all he and the others had contributed to Canada and the freedoms we enjoyed. Risking his life, giving up so many years of his youth and all. He responded "that was nothing...you remembered and gave us a free lunch".

Humbled by his attitude - and still am.

Truly he a deserving member of "the Greatest Generation".
