View Full Version : 'Perfect' Graphics are all well and good but...

Isnt it much harder to see ships with perfect sea/water and it can be so dark and disorienting even to the point you cant judge height .....(Not good for zero alt wave skimming!)
Also isnt it true that its easier to see the 'dots' of distant aircraft at lower screen resolution eg 800x600 and 1024x768 than 1280x1024 ?
I run at 1280x1024@75Hz x6/x8 AA/AF with trees =2 and water =1 .All max settings except Perfect landscape .I turn off intercom/radio chatter and text/gunners/gore etc and get around 43 fps on Black Death track on Opteron 146@2.8 and PCI ex X800XT @530/560
Worth thinking about before that next graphics card investment!?

Yes

But I dont mind crashing into the water if its at least perfect as it doesnt hurt as much and I can spot sharks easier.

If you're really that upright about doing well...

I'm sure WW2 pilots couldn't switch the sea on and off.;

Yeah but WWII pilots didn't have an imperfect graphics engine rendering what they saw either. What ytareh is saying is that the quality of the visuals sometimes has a negative effect on object visibility (which in most cases it shouldn't).

You can try turning off AA/AF (personally, I see no real need for AA at resolutions that high.. certainly not 6xAA), and see if you can run Perfect, Water=3 at an acceptable FPS...

I find its easier to wavetop over perfect water than regular..., there are a lot more distance cues..

i ones a long time ago asked if i could keep all the perfect goodies like forest3 and stuff
but with exellent water...

what would be great, and i assume we gona have something like this in BoB is that as you get closer to the ground or water, another graphics layer would fade in. over land, this extra graphics layer would show grass and stuff moving really fast to give you a better sence of speed, over water it would give you better waves again with better sence of speed( like with exellent water)when you are flying really low

then as you start gaining altitude this extra layer of graphics would fade out

To the original poster; No, I don't really suffer from losing visual contact (or the inability to acquire) at higher settings. I guess I'm just lucky as I've never seen the black circles, black water or really any of the other anomolys mentioned in other threads.

I run the sim at 1280x960 with all settings maxed out, perfect landscape, water=3, effects=2, trees=3, 4xAA. I had some fps issues after building my newest machine, but got it all sorted out and the sim looks better than it ever has. My frames stay in the 70's with peaks over 100+ frequently. My BD avg (last time I checked) was 64, 34 min, 118 max.

Yup, i've been running mine in 1200x1600 but with very low VGA settings, i can fly online with max ingame settings but struggle to see the dots on no icon servers, offline i like to fly the same but have had to go back to icons, which i hate, so i've gone back to 1280x960 and upted the VGA settings, i have similar card to you.

LOL...Actually, it's quieter than my previous rig (that I handed down to my youngest son) because of the larger CoolerMaster case and the subsequent 12cm fans instead of the 8cm ones of old. Everything runs a bit cooler and instead of the 5 case fans I had before I only have three. My older system sounded like a jet engine when I fired it up but this one spools up and settles right down. It doesn't even really get noticeably louder under full load.
