View Full Version : do you play other games? which?

06-11-2004, 05:07 AM

I just would like to know which other games you like to play and can recommend. I spend 90% of my pc time playing IL2FB. But I also like to play:

1) Airborne Assault: Red Devils over Arnhem
2) Mafia
3) FS 2002

Have just Bought BOE for FB - so its a combination of the il2 stuff for me http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Don't have the "oomph" PC-wise to play much else http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif.

I've just got back into 'Shogun, Total War' after a long layoff. It's just as addictive as it was when I first played it. That and Vietcong (online) is all I play.

I wouldn't join any club that would have ME as member!

06-11-2004, 05:56 AM
Apart from FB and LOMAC I like the stealth games - especially loving Theif 3.

After that I like to kick *** on Pro Evo 3 on the PS2

"I would have shot down more.......but I ran out of Stukas."

06-11-2004, 05:59 AM
Lomac, Fs9, Vietcong, BF Vietnam, Painkiller, Manhunt, Call of Duty, Farcry...I think that´s all I have installed in my HDD at the moment.

I tend to get stuck with a certain game for a period. For the moment I´m into BF1942 Desert combat and Star wars:Knight of the old republic.I have not played AEP for at almost two weeks. No wonder I´m a mediocre pilot http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.Other games I play is good FPS games.Strangely I have lost intrest in modern flight combat sims although I have many of them,Strange http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gifBTW,Mafia rocks!

06-11-2004, 06:45 AM
I am a man of habit, basically every night i switch between il2fb and medieval total war.

until my girlfriend gets back and threatens to dump me if i dont pay her attention, or asks such questions as 'when are u going to stop playing computer games?'

um, never?

anyhoo, played through farcry when i got it, and looking forward to halflife 2 and doom3.
but i really am totally fufilled with two games.

oh yeah and occassionally pro evo, from my console days. keeping my xbox for halo 2!!

06-11-2004, 07:00 AM
Im a big MTW fan too.

For a light hearted-non thinking blast, I sometimes run UT2004, but only offline. It`s a nightmare with UT 2004 trying to play against non-teamworking, bunny hopping, ultra fast kids online, let me tell you! Oh yea and if they ever get on the internal game comms- run away... FAR AWAY!

06-11-2004, 07:30 AM
Thing about MTW is that it constantly bites me in the ***

i mean everything is fine, i stomp on my enemies, and then suddenly my empire revolts, and everything falls apart. At least in il2 i can usually tell what went wrong.

For some reason my king is always a secret sodomite too.

the peasants are revolting!

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Apart from that, CM series and IL-2 are the ones that bring me back.

Strictly WWII flight sims and a little general aviation. I think I've owned all the available sims, over the years, but only used the ones that provided some historical linkage.

That's only my preference. Racing, strategy and ground comb at games are great; just not my interest.

Very interesting that there are so many people who play Medieval:Total War, when they don't play FB. It's the same with me.

MAFIA sure was a swetass game. I was about to replay it but I had a scratch on one of my cd:s http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

1. FAR CRY is a must for anyone really
2. Morrowind best game ever though I am not playing it at the moment. Have some 100+ hours with it so I need a break before going bloodmoon
3. FS 2004 sweat game with some awesome add ons. Not as good as Morrowinds that is free though http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
4. X2: the threat will start playing it when I get my x800XT PE
5. LOMAC when I get the time.
6. have 6 other games laying around. I always buy to many games on low price that I don´t have time to play...

06-11-2004, 03:12 PM
On my hard-drive:

Call Of Duty
Lock On
Far Cry

Hitman: Contracts wasn't near as good as Hitman2 in my opinion; they changed the graphics engine apparently, and it doesn't work quite so well on my computer. Finished it, don't play it anymore.

FarCry finished it, thought the graphics were good, but the science-fiction aspects, the "Trijens"--genetically altered monkeys--were pretty ******ed. Liked mutliplayer, but it's almost as bad as CFS3.

Battlefield:Vietnam isn't bad, but prefer Call Of Duty for on-line enjoyment.

Play FBAEP most. Followed closely by FS9 and Lock On. (Lock On still has issues, but the V1.02 release candidate has been sent to UBI soft so hopefully everything is all fixed and I'll play it even more.)

The Goat

Other games:
Medieval Total War (plus VI and several mods)
NBA Live 2004
Call of Duty

i Really like Grand Prix 4 ( GP4 )

Lock On is awesome

Commandos 2 & 3 are nice

Command & CXonquer Generals is the best C&C

also Comanch vrs Havok is still the best Helo sim

with mods Grand Prix legends is one hell of a race sim

. . . . but FB gets most of my gaming time

06-11-2004, 03:59 PM
Mafia is the best single player game I have ever seen.

True Crime is fun

COD is a good time, but I need to take like 3 months off after I finish it so it's 'new' again

Operation Flashpoint is still great, mission builder in OPF gets ahold of me worse than FB's

Grand Prix Legends is still as fun as the day I bought it ('98)

Haven't played Rune in a long time, but that was cool

Blade Runner was great, still fun to play

H&D2 is really good

Raven Sheild is great

When I have some free time to really get into it, MS FS2004 will occupy some of my time

My favorites are Medieval, Blitzkrieg and my old love Mechwarrior.( 3rd Blackwolf-Division, Kell Hounds).

@Monty, the addon is so so. Not bad really but not a must-have, also.
Rome is going to be THE Rts-game for years and years.
And AKvsDR is kinda silly.
Nice story but big bull**** when it comes to realism.

06-11-2004, 11:15 PM
Panzer General II
"Combat Mission" series
Rally Trophy
Red Orchestra (as soon as I replace my video card)

My fixation on wargames started with "Battle of Bulge" for Commodore 64 - I really don't care for RTS games (except Close Combat series), Dune 2 was excellent but after C&C the whole genre has been like eating fish sticks every day.

06-11-2004, 11:33 PM
2) Operation Flashpoint: Resistance
3) Age of Empires: Conquerers
4) GTA3

Maj_Death here, Stab.I/JG1Death at HL

I build COOPs and DF maps. If you would like some of them you can get them atmy COOP page (http://www14.brinkster.com/triggerhappy770/default.htm)

I/JG1 Oesau is recruiting axis pilots who prefer to fly maximum realism. We accept both veterans and rookies. We fly in VEF2, VOW and may join other online wars in the future. Go to our forums at http://www.jg1-oesau.org/ for more details and to apply.

06-11-2004, 11:46 PM
Combat Mission Barbaroosa to Berlin
Age of Wonders Shadow Magic
Rise of Nations
Dungeon Seige, the first game my wife will play with me http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

06-12-2004, 12:35 AM
Games on my HD:
Silent Storm (waiting for the addon http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )
Call of duty
GTA: Vice City
LotR: return of the king
Heroes of might and magic IV
Max Payne 2

But the only game I played the last month besides AEP is Silent Storm, really nice strategy game (except the pk's)..

It's too late now to get out of sight..

06-12-2004, 01:28 AM

06-12-2004, 10:40 PM
Lock On sparsely, was extremely deceived by the game.
AAO Americas army operation (Since this once doesn´t need any other FPS they seem dull)

And FB aep Now that i bought it.

Sometime i do a flash back to Shogun that i prefer thousand times over medieval, and falcon 4

Waiting for Rome total war and half life 2 only.

06-12-2004, 11:33 PM
Most of the below I play at LANs, I only listed the ones I really like as at LANs you often have to play old hat rehashed FPS because of popular vote

Joint Operations
American Conquest - Fightback
Xwing Alliance - Single Player Campaign just started

My main gaming involvement is with PBEM Napoleonic and ACW wargaming using the old Talonsoft Battleground series and newer HPS campaign games. I'm a member of both the Napoleonic Wargame Club and the ACW Game Club. I occasionally play MTW and Shogun TW too. Flight sims are a nice contrast to the wargaming.

06-14-2004, 08:58 AM
My wife reckons I'm suffering some form of Obsessive Compulsive disorder!

I've collected more books than I can read, more model kits than I can build (I'd have to live to be 300 years old to finish 'em all) and, for the purpose of answering this particular thread, more bloody computer games than I can possibly play!

But among my favourite games/sims (the ones that DO get played, in addition to IL-2/FB) are the following:

Flight -

LOMAC, FS2004, CFS2 with 'RAAF Defence of Australia', Flanker 2.51, Falcon 4.0 with SP4, EAW with heaps of add-ons and Enemy Engaged Comanche vs Hokum.

Non flight -

Black Hawk Down, Raven Shield, Call of Duty, Cossacks Art of War, Blitzkrieg, Age of Kings and Rise of Nations.

(That's only a percentage of what I've got but the others just don't get played.)

Sick, eh?

Best regards to all,

06-14-2004, 11:40 AM
I play FB mostly lately, but I sometimes also play FS2004 or Chessmaster 9000.

06-14-2004, 12:09 PM
Rome: Total War may replace all games at the top of my list.
