View Full Version : AI crashes a lot

I have tried 4.0 and I like it. Have put up some dogfighting with AI, and it seems like the AI is better in evading than before, it is harder to hit because of modelled inertia and torque. AI doesnt "cheat" anymore? Not this automatically break at 200 m distance anyway.

But: they crashes more. Some "humanlike" ie AI set at average does mistakes, but also Ace crashing doing their old über stuff. Played several round against four Ace 109. I got them all as usual, but now one or two crashed in each mission. It was low altitude (1000m) dogfight.

Is Ace AI not properly trained for the new FM?

Otherwise it is superb, almost forgot I played against AI, not so predictable as before, but still an easy match of course as they have no real cooperation.

I keep telling people...the AI is just as boneheaded as the people you fly against online http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Correct. I have also noticed this new behavior. AI enter a dive at low altitude and pull up too late. They almost make it, but they don't make it.

are you trying to say I am AI? because I crash a lot.

No. AI crashes a lot, not who crashes a lot is AI http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif Otherwise there would be no whine for new flyable aircraft, because AI-only would suffice.

What fuel and weapon loadings are you using? I'm still running 3.0m and the AI pilots don't seem to factor weight into their maneouvres when they have 100% fuel. Hence a lot of crashes which don't happen if they have 25%. Might be the same (or worse) in 4.0?

I decided to do a test on version 4.00m. I chose a test plane with loadout "Empty" (flown by me) and let it run into a flight four P-47D-27 with loadout "Extra Ammunition" at 1000 meters above open sea. I switched vulnerability off and engaged the autopilot as soon as the mission started. I watched "my" plane evade the attacks of the Thunderbolts until they ran out of ammo. AI level of all involved aircraft was Ace, fuel 100%

I tried F4F-4 Wildcat, A6M2-N Rufe, Fw 190A-8, Ki-61-I Otsu, Il-2 Type 3M and Spitfire Mk.VB as test planes.

Out of all these planes, only the Rufe touched the sea repeatedly during evasive maneuvers (it survived due to the vulnerability switched off). However, it happened twice that an attacking P-47 crashed into the sea. Two tests even ended in mass collisions of the Thunderbolts (see the pictures - nice fireworks). The Thunderbolts, however, watched their line of fire and did not tend to shoot each other down (as observed in previous versions of the game - good work that this thing has been fixed).

I checked the Rufe again twice with 25% fuel and no problems occured, AI recovered all its maneuvers well above the surface this time. Fuel loading really seems to matter.

Finally, I set up a dogfight in QMB - 16 Rufes vs. 16 Rufes (ace AI pilots), 1000 m above the Okinawa map. In the chaos, I positively identified three contacts (maybe there were more) of undamaged or lightly damaged aircraft with the sea, two of which were fatal.

Conclusion: the A6M2-N Rufe crashes often with 100% fuel loading when doing defensive maneuvers at low altitude.

I set up a mission in FMB on the Murmansk map (beautiful BTW http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif), with Beaufighters and A20g's on a torpedo run to take out Axis Battleships, as they approach at about 150-200m just before they attack they climb(as they do when coming into land) then dive steeply and usually 2 or 3 planes crash into the water and the planes that are left dont seem to be as accurate at hitting their target as before...am i doing something wrong?...is anyone else experiencing this?

I played the same scenario in QMB with 4.01 as in initial post.

I did not survive against 4 ace 109 in four tries. None of the crashed (by mistake), they used their speed good (so did they in 4.00) and obiviosly got tippet by their wingman when I was close on their six.

Great fun! If I am not imagining, there has actually been some nice modification on AI behavior from 4.00 to 4.01. Anyway, this is great stuff!

My congratulations to Oleg & co!
