No 'chutes in the early campaign. So, there's nothing wrong. It is supposed to be that way.

I think if you add this line to your conf.

UseParachutes=1

you should be able to bail.

It just takes out realism of the game.
What if you crashland and your plane is burning you should be able to get out of that plane even if you don't have a 'chute

That is true, but just tell yourself you're wounded...or your seat belt's jammed.
Something of that sort.
Then it's realistic again

open the il2( or pacific fighters, what ever you have) folder and find a file called 'conf' (looks like a notepad with a yellow cog on it) open this and add the line

UseParachutes=1

down the bottom or somewhere

On lower alts there is usually no time to bail, like NK says. Also I was playing IJA career and it gives a new immersion factor to game, knowing that if I fail (if my plane receive critical damage) I will go down with my ship... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
I have been really cautious, flying an Hayabusa also helped, because I could do a quick 360? turn just to check the vicinity http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

Saburo Sakai claimed that the parachute harness restricted movement inside the cockpit. Later, when they were directly ordered wear them, Sakai mentions wriggling out of the straps during combat to allow him to move about more freely and retain his situational awareness.

you need to go past 1 mission for it to work. If that doesnt work you could get "IL2 Stab" and install that. It has an option in the dynamic campaign section to allow parachutes.

il2 stab (http://www.users.on.net/~mjtm/IL-2/index.html)

The Japanese didn't have ejector seats either so why are you wanting to *just* bail out when you can ask for full rocket ejection? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I can't change "Allow japanese to use parachutes" option in IL-2 stab, does anyone know why is that?

High Gore is supposed to show potential "destruction" of the pilot. Blood, etc.

I haven't noticed any difference with High Gore on or off. Someone mentioned that it makes a pilot or gunner slump over if killed.

It's been noted on the forum that early war Japanese aircraft didn't have parachutes for their pilots. The game tends to follow that policy.

Personally, I haven't used IL-2 Stab, so I'm not sure if you can change that or not.
