View Full Version : My custom phone "message received" ping

02-17-2008, 09:07 PM
Firstly, i'd like to acknowledge U301 for pointing me to a nice piece of editing software. With it, i took the Sonar.wav file from SH3, cut it up, did some modifications...

I tried to create an effect of a destroyer ping, followed very shortly by a loud reverberation off a submarine hull, followed again by an echo when the ping reaches the ship, and another very weak one, almost background noise.

It's my first try, so don't laugh! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Well done Foehammer-1!

Maybe you should add some pause for good effect?
Could you generate/post a second one playing only the ping and one immediate background echo?

Not too shabby FoeH. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I always use ring tones that get louder with each ring. I wonder if it can be worked where the sonar ping not only gets louder, but increases frequency like when an escort locks on to you? Heck, you could even throw in the engine noise right before it goes to voice mail!

Hm, good ideas, guys. I woke up today and realized i missed something. firstly, the very first ping is WAY too loud, fixed that. There should be a slightly longer pause between the reverberation and first echo. I'll fix that right now.

As for engine noise and pings getting louder... good idea. Not for messaging, but for the general ringtune for calls. that dreaded ping...ping..PING.PING!PING! (engine noise), kaboom! I'll try that http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I got the one reverberation to work, followed by a long and very quiet follow-through.
I won't post them until i'm done with all of them. So later today probably

I will now work on the one with increasing frequency/volume, followed by engine noise and depth charges.

But I have a favor to ask. can someone who has GWX 1 or 2, send me an .ogg file from Speech called "SoM_P_Depth_charges_in_the_water_sir.ogg"?
I have one from WAC, but don't like it too much.
Also, is there a good sound file for

One I have is someone whispering. I wonder if there is a file that resembles the Das Boot ALAAAARM, with regards to the DD in attack run? That would be cool to add

Ok, it is done! Spent about 2 hours and didn't eat breakfast yet :P Got slightly addicted.

Here are the requested files:
*Ping, 3 echos- almost like original, but i fixed the mistakes
*Ping, 1 echo, as requested by Mittelwaecher
*Destroyer in attack run- I made it as a ringtune for the phone. See if you like it.

By the way, anyone know how to reduce the size of the file, without cutting out parts?

Nice job, Sir.

To reduce the size convert to 96 kbit/s, 8 bit, mono, 11 kHz - http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Maybe you can create a four second .WAV from one of those two?
Sonar.wav (http://upload.worldofplayers.de/files/SONAR.wav)
Sonarping.wav (http://upload.worldofplayers.de/files/sonarping.wav)

I'd appreciate one "sonarping" and a pause of four seconds...

Sounds Cool Foe-1.
I am downloading now.
Well done.

I'm a little lost, Mittelwaecher... What exactly do you want done with those two files?

And thanks, I now converted the destroyer file. It's now 831KB instead of 3,321. Doesn't sound too different.

Now on the downloads page there is a small and large version of "Destroyer in attack run"

Hi Foehammer-1,

try to use "sonarping.wav", cut out only one ping and add 3 or 4 seconds silence. It should make an atmospheric ringtone.

Very good work. ROFL I will have to get the attack run hooked up on my company phone. I can't wait to see my co-worker's faces.

Alrighty, I found another error in the DD file. The second last and last pings have that screeching sound to them. So I fixed that. I will make a new post with the link to the final versions, and installation instructions.

If you got the DD in attack run, you should get the newer one once i upload it. It sounds a lot better during the pings http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
