And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

High Flight

Its also very sad that the elegant machines which inspire such poetry and joy are designed with the sole intent of killing. If there is "anybody out there" they would be too scared to show their faces round here.

Nice pics. Bummer to see all that work, effort and ingenuity left out to rot like so much garbage. Shame about Spamburgler's Fan being a total knob too, but that can't be helped either. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Yep - seeing a load of warplanes being scrapped because they're no longer needed actually makes me feel pretty good.

It would be nice if one day the only place to see one was in a museum, at an air display or in a history book.

Cheers,

3:1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

2 a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
3 a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.

Sure, you live on top of the hill right? I'm down on Silver Street, about 70ft from The Grapes which I can confirm does a pretty solid pint of Young's Special or St. Austel's Tribute, and they let dogs in which matters if you've got a pooch. I didn't know Dunkelgrun was a West Wilts fellow.

Oh, Neural Dream. Sorry for inferring you were a knob. You're right about the whole death machine's're better off in bits on a dump, especially the V-bombers and B-52s.

Those are really great, if a bit disorienting.

Also, great shots, Kenji.

Cheers MLudner -
Like I said, there's plenty more where that came from at the RAF website - from 1914 to the present day, all good stuff. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Yet more good stuff, Kenji http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

That odd looking contraption, Kenji, would be a Westland Wessex HC2.

I just love the Victor. If Flash Gordon flew a V bomber, he'd fly the Victor.

Like I wouldn't be interested in Whirly pics! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

As for the sig....well, you posting the poem had something to do with it, I'd just been reading about Blakeslee and the American Eagles...it just seemed to drop into place. Thought it might be nice to let the Yanks know we do appreciate their efforts all those years ago...I've decided to save Blakey for special occassions http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

More Victors, vicar? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Yeah, that pic came to mind right away. I think it was in the Pacific. Dozens pushed into a pit. I thought I had the pic, but alas, I don't....
