...the lives wasted during wars? I mean, have you ever thought about possible bright scientists, writers, musicians etc. whose lifes were taken, never had had the chance to express their work or change the future of man-kind? Like JRR Tolkien, if he were killed back on WWI we would never read such amzing story as LOTR...

I think in this everytime a see a historical war movie...

EF, I understand what you are saying, but the implications can drive you nuts if you really get wrapped up in trying to ponder it all. The same sort of thing can be said of abortion. Human experience is what it is, and unlike the cliche line in Terminator 2, "The future is what we make it" or something like that, there is only one track of life.

Every time a person dies I think it leaves a void for someone else to fill. We may think that every death could be a potential loss of a Mozart or Einstein, but there also may be a loss of somebody who may have lived to become a murderer or rapist.

I'm not trying to deny what you are saying. Lost life is a wasted potential, but lost potential can be a good thing or a bad thing. Mostly I think it is a loss for good, but every now and then someone's passing may be a good thing, if you know what I mean.

P.S. Good to see you back in the forum after being away for so long.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/agreepost.gif I agree with Kaleun1961 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/agreepost.gif

You can get too wrapped up with the philosophical ramifications of war and it's consequences on human life.

The best thing you can do is concentrate on ensuring your life is a positive force through whatever talents posess.

I'm a fairly conservative type of person, but I like to look at issues from both sides. Though I think of myself as a person on the right side of the political spectrum, I do personally embrace ideas from the center and left. Greenpeace are a lefty type of institution, but there is one saying of their's that I try to live by: "Think globally and act locally." I try to get through this life by doing positive things. I may not be able to affect the world, but I hope to be a positive influence in my part of it.

Just MHO, but from what I've seen of you here on these forums, I'd say you're doing a damn fine job of that indeed if its any indicator of how you do with the rest of your RL! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
