View Full Version : I want WW1

Yep. it's that simple. Just read some of Ernst Udet's accounts of WW1 air combat. It seemed pretty exciting. I know there are a few WW1 sims out there but unless it compares to what Oleg has done with the IL2 series, I just won't bother. Anyone know of something in the making?

I don't think there's a combat flight sim fan around who doesn't secretly want to fly like Voss

For long time i hawe wanted to fly WW1 planes with
new technolig flight model and graphig. I searously hope some team who respect that era will
build WW1 combat flight simulator, SIMULATOR.

Oh yes! I want one! Badly. Very badly in fact. The Gladiator is fun, but I want my SE5!

You'll get one in December :

The VC is very much WIP but I have quite good ref for it, so I hope the end result will be worth the time invested in building it. Just want to say that I'll try to equal FB VCs, that's the goal, but bear with my skills as I'm not a professional modeller.

This looks very promising! I don't know anything about modelling; I am so thrilled by all those putting in hour upon hour giving us cravers of arcane aircrafts something to drool over!

CFS3 has vector expansion no?

So we may, ie, be able to lean over the side of the cockpit?

hehehe.

Hey those skins are great.

Think it's gonna be a long long time before we see another wwi flight sim. Not like it hasnt already been a long time since rb came and went.

Which is a shame. A real shame.

Anyways I meant the comment about the skins btw.

I will be waiting for a good one myself. Those old planes would be something to experience for sure, especially if Oleg's engine was involved!!!! I can only hope as well....

I have TrackIR with 6DOF. Actually that brings a kind of different challenge for modellers as you can't delete polygons that would normally be unseen with a fixed point of view. So it means that I'll have to be careful in deleting polygons. But the saving grace is that cfs3 handles quite high poly counts : my aim is a 15,000 poly count for the VC.
NB : this is a shot from Gmax, that's not what you'll see in game when you lean over the side of the cockpit http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Very good site with reference about the SE5 :

A gold mine for modellers. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Btw, I'll be doing the Spad XIII VC too, and it's much more of a mess than the SE5 VC, which is quite tidy in comparison...

Mark Miller's stuff is amazing and very inspiring. And he has let us use some of his work for the interface http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Airco DH-2 for me thanks! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif
I like to see where I'm going.

You know it'll never happen though, right?

There's always Red Baron 3D - the graphix are bad but the FM, DM & campaigns are good. Dunno if they fly online anymore though... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I'm in.

My fascination with military aircraft started with Billy Bishop and Von Richtofen, Spads, Nieuports and Albatrosses. Probably had something to do with Snoopy and the Red Baron.

In a recent and similar thread, someone raised the point that lack of detailed performance data from the period makes creating a 'realistic' WWI sim almost impossible.

Problem is: we're so spoiled with IL2 that anything less would be a letdown.

I think Oleg said he has no interest in WW1
thats a shame cause I would pay double mabye even 4 times as much for a WW1 sim done as well as IL2 was. NO REALLY I WOULD.....would you?
If so maybe that would spark some interest http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I'm with you. If Oleg made a WWI sim, I would pay a good price for it because I know I would get my money's worth, and more. Also, I know that whatever it cost me would pale in comparison to any hardware costs that I would willing make to enjoy it to its fullest.

If you're going to spend a couple of thousand dollars for a high-end rig, plus the proper sim flight control equipment - as many of us obviously do - paying for the sim itself shouldn't present a problem.

There's also "Dawn of Aces" over at Warbirds. Dunno if anyone is flying it... Sometimes they have a few weeks of free trials, might be worth a try if you need a fix.
