I was wondering if in the future with BOB will we have the ability to use our own sounds (Sound Packs) Or is it even possible now? I have gone crazy and went and found almost all the orignal sounds of the planes and would like to add them in.

I doubt it. It would be a good thing if they continue this 'closed source' tradition. IMHO.

I would like to see some improvement on this field, but then again, I'm not that much hard to please guy. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Oleg has hinted that Il2, after the release of BOB, and BOB itself may end up with open source code for other developers to make their own mods to the game. There could then be servers for the "official versions" of the game and then people could set up servers for modified versions.

Unfortunatly they have not listened to the community and its the one thing everyone agrees on.

Synth sound engine is horrible, and oleg stated BOB will use the same synth sound engine but slightly tweaked.

For a flight sim real engine sounds are a must and add so much immersion.

Hey,

Go find chuk (or chuck? whatever) and learn to program it. Its a sound-progaming environment thats loads of fun to tinker with.

Anyways...

Create realistic engine sounds with that. Then pull RPM from devicelink to vary the pitch.

I can't believe oleg is going to use the same old sound engine from IL2 (slighty tweaked) for BOB.
He's gotta know how disatified we are...IMHO real sounds are a must!!

Synth sound is better for the genre. I don't want canned sounds from recordings because they can't offer the mechanical detail that synth sounds give us (and they require EVEN MORE RAM to cache samples).

Hi it whould be nice if you share with all Il2 fans the sounds that you have or say where did you get them http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

well I guess this is two ways to see this problem...
first of all...

have you guys any idea what an reciprocating engine sounds like from the cockpit???

If im not wrong it should be nothing but a terrible noise. Even in a merlin powered plane

I belive there is a big difference than from outside, and that you can hear when seeing a plane in the distance.

However I must agree that sounds make about 30% of the game/simulator.

The sollution that exists now for IL2 is perhaps advanced in some ways, but.. well...
hm.

not gonna say it..

Where was that said?

IMHO, real sounds are not really a must and in some ways are a disadvantage.

The advantage of the IL2 system is that the actual physics of the sounds are created more precisely than in other products. The problem is that there isn't enough audio power to run enough samples to get it to sound real.

What I'm hoping to see from the sound boys is an amalgamation of systems with more actual samples as part of the synth system to make it sound good as well as accurate. Both are important to me (if not anyone else).

I want to hear that roaring Merlin and high pitch whine of the Diamler Benz engines.

Most people dont want real sounds they want those nice canned flypast sounds, personally Id rather what we have, sounds quite good to me with an audigy2 card, as for the original engine you could hear all the outside sounds which is not only unrealistic it made sneaking up very difficult.
Agreed these sounds could be tweaked a bit but please no CFS/Bob-WOV sounds as they are very limited and unrealistic unless your outside the 'pit, then they sound sweet.
