Haven't been on the forums for some time now. What is said about release date for PF? Yeah I know 2 weeks.... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif But seriously...? Is it ASAP or are we talking christmas?

according to the german forum, the release is planned for October 21st

So all in all, we really are talking about two weeks.

Release, according to my sources, is currently expected between the 14th and the 21st this month, however, as Manuc said, the 21st seems to be "the day" rather than the 14th.

According to Game UK the release date is 15 October...but I'm afraid I have no idea if this is true or not.

You would think that if it were truely going to be released by the end of this month, that it would already have "gone Gold", and somebody would have already noticed that on some website. I don't hold out any hope for it to hit the store shelves any earlier than this time next month. In any case, it's finally getting down to that magical "two week" time frame! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Well, the pimply faced kid at EBGames says his computer now shows ScoobyDoobyUBISoft releasing it 11/20/2004.

Hey, that's the exact date I predicted!

Just got an email from Gameplay(U.K) notifying me that the release date has changed from the 15th to the 22nd.

Interesting, it really seems that for some strange reason, the US release will be some time AFTER the european release...
Although I'd like a more or less global release at the same day best, I would appreciate it much if, for a change, europe gets the good stuff first. (no flaming intended, just a thought)

Btw, amazon.de still lists the 21st October as the release date for Pacific Fighters here in germany.

Also checked EBgames.de (wow, we have EBgames in germany? cool), they also list the 21st October as the release date for PF.

It hasn't gone gold yet. There is no way that it will be at retail inside of two weeks and there is absolutely no way that it will be at retail in one week (the 15th.)

Once a game goes gold, you're usually looking at the better part of a month before you see it in retail channels. I wouldn't expect to see it anywhere before mid-November. I think we'll definetely see it before the end of November because not getting a 4th quarter product out with time to spare before Christmas is viewed as a death sentence by publishers.

What if they just don't tell us if it has gone gold or not?

From what I know by now, all european sources now point either on the 21st or 22nd this month.

How about a more optimistic view?

Hm, maybe I can do some more research...

Just checked the official german UBI page...

They also list the 21st October as release date.

Also, the german UBI board mod confirmed this date recently.

Looks good so far, doesn't it? (at least for us germans) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Why exactly wouldn't they tell us if it had gone gold, anyway? It certainly has been talked about enough around here. A gold announcement not only guarantees them free press, but it also ensures that people know that it is coming and that initial sales will be strong. I really don't see any scenario in which they wouldn't announce it.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>How about a more optimistic view? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>Optimism is good and fine, but expecting it in 1 - 2 weeks isn't optimistic -- it's simply unrealistic. If it had gone gold, then two weeks might be possible (not probable, but possible,) but considering that a dev had said that the game has not gone gold within the last week or so, I'd say the chances are slim to none.

So what about those release dates? Why the **** is Ubi and every good retailer in germany currently giving out this date (21st) if the game hasn't gone gold yet and therefor, won't be on the shelves in about 2 weeks as it is currently indicated?

This is definitely confusing, don't you think?

This is definitely confusing, don't you think? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>Never trust the release dates given by retailers -- they are guesses and nothing more unless there has been an official press release stating that the game is coming out on XX day. It's pretty clear that there has been no such thing in this case because just about severy single retailer is giving different dates. Even Ubi's information is conflicting.

It's also important to remember that Ubi is the publisher, not the developer. They can't authoritatively say (well, unless they decide to get their legal department involved and go after 1C) when the game is going to be done because they aren't making it. I mean, come on. Let's be realistic here - Ubi can't even provide us with an accurate plane list. The list that UbiRazz posted has been confirmed to be inaccurate by those in the know.

You could ask the same question about any publisher.

"Why did Sierra say that Halflife 2 would be out in September 2003?"
"Why did Activision give several incorrect release dates for Doom 3?"
"Why has Codemasters given several incorrect release dates for Operation Flashpoint 2 and then pushed back the date two entire years?"

Take anything that you hear from a publisher with a grain of salt, especially when it conflicts with what the developer is saying.

There's a smal problem in your examples, as they are all about games and release dates that were pushed back by a major amount of time... and when they were pushed back, there was usually a greater amount of time left to the planned release than the two weeks we're talking about here.
Especially since one could witness a certain development over the past 8 weeks:

First, it was indicated that on or about the 1st October PF will be released.

This was then corrected to the 7th, and then to the 14th.

A local games magazine recently (28.9.2004) revealed that according to what they know, PF will be released on the 14th October. Now, since their information was about a little more than 1 week old when their latest magazine was on the shelves, one can easily tell that the latest release date correction is only about 2 weeks old.

So what will it be? Currently, the 21st is doubtful, but as long as they don't correct the date again, that will be the day.
And again, I not only checked the date that the retailers have... but look for yourself:

http://www.ubi.com/DE/Games/pacificfighters.htm

Maybe they will push the date back again, but until they do, 21st is the day.

EDIT: More confusion:

http://www.ubi.com/IT/Games/pacific_fighters.htm

Either the italian web mod is very lazy, or something IS wrong here.

So, what will it be? Is the US date the most accurate one? Are we europeans mislead by a strange news agenda?

If someone who really knows could only clarify things a little...

The OFP announcement came within weeks of its supposed release date (though, I don't think that anybody was realistically expecting it to come out at that point.)

My whole point is that Ubi doesn't seem to know, and Ubi's information is what people are using to base their supposed release dates on. They don't even know for certain what planes will actually be in the game, so I'm not exactly certain how they're supposed to know the exact date that production will be wrapped up and they can begin pressing CDs and sending them to retail.

I just looked through a number of game sites. The PF release date was given as everything from 10/14 to 11/9. Ubi's own site/this forum even has inconsistencies. I'm just saying that it's silly to take any of this stuff as "cannon" and get all excited until these inconsistencies are straightened out. We probably will not have a firm release date until Oleg tells Ubi that he's days away from going gold.

Guys, the UK release date for Pacific Fighters is 22nd October as it's slipped by a week. Outside of the UK I couldn't comment however.

As said before... "Don't rush it. Let Oleg make sure it's done the right way."

If it takes longer for the release all the better, as it'll be better for all of us in the long run. They won't have to patch it as fast and we'll have a more complete and polished game.

So maybe the 21st might just be accurate for germany.... plus minus one day.

Interesting, it seems there will be a release without a big weeks-before "it's gold" message.

Most interesting.
