View Full Version : True airspeed for bombsight?

Hey all you bomber pilots, I was wondering how you obtain true air speed when on a run. The book says it is indicated in no cockpit mode, but if cockpit is locked on how do you get it? Any tips or suggestions? Thanks. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

on 1 of the cd's, (i cant remember which 1 offhand) there's a chart that lists indicated airspeed(which is shown on the gauge) and true airspeed...aka, tas; which is what is needed for correct bombdrop. it's in pdf format btw

Ah thanks m8! I tried my hand at level bombing last night and it was pretty cool aside from being way off target lol.

try the b25, and use speed bar too. b25 seems to have a TAS needle on the bomberdiers pit, on the left http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

im learnin too, maybe hook up sometime on HL and play?

The TAS indicator in the B25 isn't even close to accurate unfortunately. I never bomb below 12000 ft and I have figured out that adding 30mph to IAS (or the speedbar speed) is extremely close. If you add 30 mph, put the crosshair just on the front edge of the target, and turn on bombsite automation approx 10sec before target it's a dead hit. High-Alt bombing is actually pretty easy once you figure out the secrets. I made a training mission for my cohorts where you are bombing a factory defended by 20 whirbelwind's and 10 flak88 batteries. At 18000 ft it's a piece of cake.

Also, you must map a key to level stabilizer or auto-level...can't remember the name (it's near the top). This is NOT the same as level autopilot. Level stabilizer (or whatever it's called) keeps the plane level so you can set the height. The only thing to check before you turn on the auto bombsight (the "set it and forget it mode lol") is to double check your height reading. For a while I thought the level stabilization wasn't working because I kept losing altitude, but then I figured out the map isn't flat and I was flying "uphill", so the need to double check everything before turnint the sight on auto is the last thing to remember.

There are several TAS resources and charts from other forum contributors included in my B25 guide package (in my signature) that may be of use to you.

Note the B25 sight is a bit "off". It should work in TAS mph but all indications are that it's working in knots. Thus convert to knots, or subtract about 10% from your mph inputs. This is only true for the B25.

Sure m8 I'd love to fly along with some others learning the ways of this thing. I usually try to find a somewhat empty server on HL with ground objectives so there are no fighter distractions till I get the hang of it. I have absolutley no idea how to do it correctly. But this is what I have manage to learn so far about the B-25.


I line up on target
then hit " Level Stabilizer"
Then I go into Bomber seat
then I adjust my Bomsight angle up so I can see where I'm going.
Then adust Bombsite Elevation.
I then check speed and adjust between the two needles.
I use rudder trim to make final adjustments on lining up the target.,and maintainig the target in the cross hairs the entire time.
Then as target aproaches I adjust Bomsight angle to 50%
I arm the bombsite once target is in the cross hairs.

Here is track, problem is game only showshows kmh in speed bar no matter what you had it set to in game. So I use the gauge anyways for deminstration


Please work on it and if you get anymore ideas pass them on here.
This is a 3000lbs payload a direct hit and it cripples the carrier I beleive. This is best since taking off of its deck should be next to impossible now.
I will adjust mission to make it a flyable deck to find out.

Now If you can try this technique at higher and lower Altitudes, I will and report findings here.

See this thread (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=26310365&m=4591067962) for a new version of the excellent Bombsight Table application by WT_Pedropan and WT_Pitr.

This is one you can bring to the foreground and use whilst PF is running without any problems, very useful and does all the hard work for you! Note again that for the B25 you can use input in mph and take computed TAS in knots as an approximation.
