No.

Because the Wii got something new? Something the PC has had for a longer time, and is better at?

Consoles won't overtake PC gaming, I just don't understand how people can think that.

So now you can fly your plane by extending your arms and running around the room just like you did as a kid making RATA-TAT-TAT-TAT sounds. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

Will BoB be Wii compatible? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

All hail Wii! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

the death of PC gaming was announced in 2007, 1997, and 1987

eventually, they will be right

But a novel and ingenious control system like the Wii has will not kill PC gaming. For Christ sake what's the panic? Anything the Wii can do, a PC can do. if you notice, consoles, even the Wii, take rudiments of PCs and incoporate them. The Wii even simulates a keyboard. What's THAT tell you? Consoles and PCs have become more and more like each other over the years. Eventually there will be a hybrid system that is an all in one entertainment unit. But the fact is that consoles have become more like PCs MUCH more than PCs are becoming like consoles

Precisely and every time they`ve proved wrong, even today.

The Wiii (stupid name) is one of the silliest ideas pushed to look clever. Tell enough people that something looks good when you really look like an armed lunatic waving monkey holding a stick and enough people will fall for it. I`ve seen enough people doing girations with it in the shops and shaken my head. I`d rather wear a TIR hat and look at least respectable!

I have to laugh.

Consoles have a ways to go as far as simulators are concerned. We need all of our joysticks, pedals, TIR's etc. Until a console can deal with all of that and they develop serious sims, PC gaming will be here to stay.

"But the fact is that consoles have become more like PCs MUCH more than PCs are becoming like consoles"

Agreed 100%

like it or not, microsoft's Games for Windows campaign and Mac's return to gaming will undoubtedly push the pc game market more and more. Yes, GfW is probably a strategy to get pc players to mix up with Xbox360 players, but having a common banner for pc games will definitely appeal to more people, designers and help the pc game market.

For now though, the GfW-Live, (the Pc version of Xbox Live) 50$ version offers stuff that was always available to pc gamers for a long time for no free charge - stats, friend networks, etc. just look at Battlefield 2, Steam etc...

So if they shape up a little more, I think Pc gaming is getting a great push from microsoft (i threw up a little saying that last part http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )

Until consoles can use the same controls and TIR stuff that we have on pc, I have no need for one. Using those stupid little hand controllers to fly planes is not acceptable to me.

I'm curious.........why the blazes don't they make them to accept such controllers. I think I saw a steering wheel for one in wally world a few days ago. Why can't they just adapt them where I can use a CH stick, throttle, rudder, and TIR? Any reason it's not been done before now? Gotta be one. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

If Ubi brought out a console tuned specifically to run IL2 & BoB at max quality, best connection and included good HOTAS peripherals (or at least allowed existing PC ones to be plugged in) I would be tempted. No more fighting for use of the PC, no more wondering what sh*t Windows has left in the background.

Until I can undertake complex multi engine management, handle multiple MFD's and have a range of ancillary gear/fleap/canopy switches etc. then I'll stick with the much more versitle 'ye olde fashioned' PC.

The Wii even simulates a keyboard. What's THAT tell you? Consoles and PCs have become more and more like each other over the years.

With awl dew respect, I disagree. The Wii got it's keyboard from the typewriter.

Consoles are no good for the types of games I like to play. I can't stand trying to fly aircraft, or run around in a FPS with those little game pads. They have no real precision with them, and have no where near the customization that a keyboard/mouse/hotas does.

Some console games are fun, but not enough of them to warrant owning one. I sold my PS2 for a reason. It sat and collected dust for 2 years after I finished all the games I had for it.

PC's still have a lot more utility to them anyway. More than just gaming, which is also a big selling point for me.

Havent most of you, Hard core, simmers essentialy created your own dedicated flight consoles?

How many of you would let another family member do their tax return on your beloved rig, without hovering over them? Does it serve any other serious function?

I think the main plus that a console has for me over a pc is that I can have a few freinds around for a couple of games, nock back some beers and not have to give them a crash course in information technology, communications software.

I like using my pc but you would never get every one in my family playing flight sims together, were as they are all perfectly willing to have a laugh and make fools of themselves playing tennis on wii sports, for an hour or so and then its no hassel to clear it out of the way when were done.

It was great fun watching my mother (now approaching 60) playing tennis and was nice for her to get involved in a past time that until now was some what exclusive to myself and my brothers.

Nintendo have tapped a market here and although its not perfect it has opened up a new angle for peripheral development.

At least they should be commended for stearing away from the dual analogue gamepad method of interface which I found so anoying when playing fps on Xbox

I for one look forward to each new console development.

PC gaming market has been severely dwindled by consoles but it's not out by a long shot. For sure if you went into a BestBuy or CompUSA in the late 90s, there were vastly more games for PC, aisle after aisle of them. Now, the same stores have more aisles devoted to consoles by far. And back then dedicated gaming shops were all about PC and now PC games are given only a shelf or two in the same shops.

But I think there's actually been a resurgence of PC gaming in the last year or so. Some game devs like EA Sports have stopped developing for PC entirely or nearly so, but I think they will reverse direction shortly. My brother used to play the EA Sports NASCAR series on PC, but right now it's no longer available for PC, only console.

There are HOTAS for consoles. At least one for the XBox 360 (iirc, and really looks like a saitek...)

PC market share on video games is around 17%.
with new consoles just out (Wii + PS3), handheld consoles soaring (DS, DS lite, PSP)and a rush towad "casual games" from editors, this market share will probably go down this year and next year.
But there still will be PC games...
