So, the Natural Point fellas have been hinting about some new "huge" upgrade that will be made available sometime after Thanksgiving but are being a bit hush hush about what it might actually be. I thought maybe we'd fire up a WAG thread about what we might think in the meanwhile.

Here's my WAG:

How about recognition for "lean" as well as rotation? Would probably require a special sensor-dot setup... but that would be pretty big, I'd think.

Hard to imagine what else it'd be and why not TIR2 or TIR1.. my guess is the higher refresh frequency and specs allow for the tracking of multiple inputs that could be used to calculate both rotation and lean? I was thinking about this the other day actually.. if you had two dots instead of one, it wouldn't be too hard to tell the difference between rotation (gap between dots shrinks) and "lean" (gap remains constant but dots shift left/right in sensor view).

Whaddaya think? Close, maybe?

An implant that allows tracking without those silly dots maybe?

Seriously, I have no clue, but this product has gotten better with each revision and update. And it looks like the wait won't be too long. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I heard it had an extra frame on it with an expansion bar that sticks out from above your head that you can dangle a 21 inch crt monitor on, to counteract the weight of this a bar juts out rearwards from your head and this carries a 90 kg weight to balance it all, on top of this it comes with a collar, not unlike the ones you get fitted in a car accident to assist your neck muscles....... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I figured with all the TIR fanbois in the world, this one might get a bit of attention! You folks really don't have any guesses or inside info?

Have at it!

Hello:

Thanks for checking in with us. Yes, the message is legitimate.

We will be releasing all new software, re-written from the ground up for TrackIR3 users. The new software will allow us to interface directly with CFS3 and perhaps other titles that haven't been supported in the past as well, all based on user demand / requests. In addition, there will be a new accessory that will be released this Christmas for the TrackIR3 that will allow even more functionality, you will be very impressed. So, we have been busy and you will get to enjoy it soon enough!

the only thing i have heard them discussing is a December software release that has some new fancy filtering to eliminate head wobble which presumably will mean new users will not have to resort to huge deadzones

It will incorperate an "over the horizon radar" that can tell friend from foe from 30 miles and if the pilot is a noob or ace. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif That was supposed to be top secret ,sorry. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

Considering NaturalPoint's track record with writing unstable drivers for the TrackIR (remember the USB fiasco that still plagues a few people?), I'm not expecting too much from their new drivers.

Interface with CFS3? Why would anyone want that? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Guess I'll be sticking with my TIR2 for a while...

That would be fancy! Perhaps a 1 inch circle with small barbed spikes on one side that I can drive into my forehead with a hammer! LOL
