Hey folks, I've put together yet another campaign with the help of a few community members.

Here's the description:
In January of 1942, British controlled Malaya was falling quickly into the hands of the Japanese. Singapore, once called the Gibraltar of the East, was facing the prospect of Japanese control. Calling for reinforcements, the Royal Air Force called on the assistance of the Royal Australian Air Force, the Royal Canadian Air Force, and the Royal New Zeland Air Force. Together, the men of these squadrons battled impossible odds with their obsolete Brewster Buffalo aircraft.

This campaign is loosely (and semi-historically) based on the experiences of Flying Officer Geoffrey Fisken in the defense of Singapore.

You can find the campaign here: http://www.flying-legends.net/php/downloads/download.php?id=1733

Please go and leave your comments and your vote when you've finished so I can improve. The more detail, the better I can make my future campaigns.

Thanks to Flying Legends for hosting!

Well I do try and be different sometimes http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

This I think can affectionately be called a "CrapPlane Campaign" (TM). But we'll leave that to the experts http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

DL'ing now Icefire... no wonder you haven't put out your Hellcats campaign. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Looks like great fun ... I can't wait to fly another CrapPlane Campaign(tm) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I'll let you know how it goes (really!)

Just downloaded but have a bit of a backlog to clear. The subject is dear to my heart though and I DO like the Buffalo. Thanks for making it Icefire.

The first 2 misns are pretty good, and i like how you did some stuff on the ground, like the burning aircraft wiht rescue vehs around it...like the stuff i did in my recent project.

Neat paint schemes to. Man, i cant believe what an underpowered death trap that thing is....what were the RAF purchasing commision thinking of. Id lots rather have a hurricane or a P-40B, even a P-36 (Mohawk in RAF service) would be better than this thing. Amazing how any1 made ace in it. Its definitely a cr@p plane. I also like the airbase setup out in the sticks. Ill do a couple more tonight.

Glad you guys are liking it. Sorry for the shortness but I ran out of time and I planned it to be a short campaign as there wasn't alot of detail in what actually happened there.

I tried to make it with some variety. There are actually 3 missions where the events are slightly different. There's an A and a B of those missions. So on replay, you might get it slightly different. Not much, but a bit.

I hope you aren't going to change the briefs. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I have to tell you that the read-me in Desperate Odds is the best I have seen. Great idea! Mind if I "borrow" from it? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Ive flown up through the solo recon misn....had to resort to some extreme tactics to get the misn accomplished, but it worked, although I trashed my shot up buf in friendly territory. I like the surprise there, and I found myself having to dodge enemy fighters, which i barely did wiht my dying machine. A well done sortie.

The only complaint so far is the same one i make wiht nearly ALL cmpns....I have to go into the misn blder and reduce all multi engine bombers to rookie; if not, there is no way to survive the misn, since those gunners are just too good and not very realistic. Even on rookie they are too effective. I played the first Betty intercept as it was written, and got shot up after i downed one betty and shot up another wiht my dying engine. i had to crash land that one to, and my plane was disabled after just one pass.

I think that cmpn blders should keep in mind taht some folks kinda give up on these things if they cant survive the first misn. Ive been doing this sim a total of at least 2 yrs on and off now, and have found that anything above rookie makes them deadeye robots.

After i changed the rest of them to rookies, i could survive the misn without bailing or getting killed, but i was still shot up as always. My recomendation to all cmpn blders is to keep multi engine bombers skill at rookie unless you want the player blown out of the sky, which might be needed in some scenarios.

anyway, the misns are extremely good. I cant land even an undamaged buf very well...thats an extremely unstable plane, much worse than even the I-16.

Ill finish it tomorow. I noticed that it appeared you had a branching campn; is the misn chosen due to prior events or just at random. Ive not seen that sicne the original IL-2 sim.
I like how the bombers seem to outsmart all us buf drivers sometimes and hit the target before we get to them. Very inovative.

@Enforcer:

A fair assesement for sure on the bomber thing. I did have a bit of trouble myself but I was still finding it fairly easy to bring down scores of bombers so I moved it back to the average AI from novice.

I do know, based on dogfight server experience, that I'm probably better at attacking bombers than most so I should probably tone them down so the majority are happy. That said, I was still getting blasted tons of times...I guess I should have paid more attention http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yes the branching thing is totally random. I saw that feature mentioned in the manual and thought I'd give it a shot.

Mostly the missions are the same with minor changes.

@bird_brain: Go right ahead and take that readme idea. I thought it was a bit nicer to have a readme with HTML than that old TXT file readme. Everyone has a browser these days and you can do quite a bit of stuff with just inline HTML/CSS (if I wanted to take it that far) and no images.

I found one way to reduce bomber kills while not affecting survivability very much is to make the bombers a bit faster, especially after they drop their loads. The Betty was a fairly fast bomber, so fast that F4Fs had to get above and dive on it to catch the things. I actually had to slow dn some of the bombers in my vvs cmpn to allow the laggs a bit more chance of intercepting them....it was especially tuff wiht the I-16s.

I try to keep the average sim pilot in mind sometimes while still keeping the vets happy...its a tricky balance for sure.

I tried to upload my VVS cmpn there, but it claimed that i had spaces in my zip file name even after i corrected that, and wont take my screenshot because its not 800x600. So much for that idea. I guess airwarfare will have it exclusively for now.

nope, there were no spits for a thousand miles of there. Maybe a few hurricanes and Blenhiems.
