I took the boys here today so here are a few pictures.
the website for the museum is here for those interested.

The aircraft are housed in 4 hangers on a historic site, concorde takes up one, military, civil and projects the remaining.

Although not a large collection, it was a good day out , with the staff being helpful and enthusiastic. The one thing that really struck me was how small the planes were. Even the cockpit in the harrier was tiny.

cool. i were in hendon to see the tempest and typhoon, though i liked the size of those two. spitfire and harrier are very small, i think. but i saw the swedish Saab vigen ones and almost poo my self, huge just like F14.

BUT WHY did they strap up the tempest 5 meter in to the roof?????

Nice pics, Dieg!

I've visited our National Aviation museum in Ottawa, Canada, a few times and it's great to be able to spend time near these machines.

We've got a decent WWII collection. From memory: Me109, Me163, Hurricane, Spitfire, Mustang, Lancaster, Liberator, Lysander, B-25, Mosquito, P-40 Kittyhawk - maybe a couple of others.

The bummer is not being able to look inside the cockpits - except the Lancaster - of which we have two. One is complete, the other is just the front half of the fuselage with the tail end cut-away just behind the crew positions and an elevated walkway so that you can peer inside.

I'm told that if you call in advance they will arrange a ladder for you to look inside your choice of aircraft - I intend to do this over the summer, but the choice is tough. I think it's going to be the Hurricane, but the jury is out.

Thanks for all your great tech support work!

The museum used to run open cockpit days with access to the Harrier and vulcan amongst others, but they dont seam to do it any more.

The annual airshow has been cancelled because of the G8 summit.

I would recommend the Leuchars airshow it is far better anyway, take the kids (remember ear plugs).

There seems to be something wrong about the Fieseler Storck, isn't that the wrong engine?

It is actually a Morane Saulnier MS 505a Criquet (French built Fieseler Fi-156 Storch) more info on web page given above

Great pics dieg777!

I will definitely visit the museum when I get over the pond in August. And I will definitely give you a phone call to say hello and, who knows. you might be able to free yourself up for a visit.

And thanks for putting my nic in the thread heading. I saw your other post saying you were going to start this thread and was waiting to see it.

Fine looking wee laddies you have there.

Thanks again.
