View Full Version : Another Deck Gun Thread....It might be worth a look!

Hello Everyone....I'm new here, and I've not even finished a career yet, other than dying on my second mission with a career in unmodified v1.3.....I've since loaded R1.42 and am enjoying it, trying to tweak best I can...(OT btw for Beery...I thought your name was familiar! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I throughly enjoyed your mods for RB3D...thanks for all!)

Anyway....after reading most threads on Uber Deck Gun problem, I'm trying the following idea:

GO to .../data/Cfg/Sim and use the following modifications:

[AI Cannons]
Max error angle=20 ;[deg]
Max fire range=6000 ;[m]
Max fire wait=60 ;[s]

[AI AA guns]
Max error angle=20 ;[deg]
Max fire range=1000 ;[m]
Max fire wait=30 ;[s]

AND USE ONLY AI CREW TO FIRE GUNS! I must admit I love firing the guns, but the guns are unrealistic IMHO. I've not tested yet, but *in theory* by changing the angle to 20 degrees this could simulate the unstable U-Boat conditions that many who have served on subs seem to say (on these boards) occured even on calm seas. I don't think it applies when a human fires the gun, only the AI.

Also, by increasing the wait time, this could simulate getting a good fix on a target.

For those who crave "realism," maybe this will help....any suggestions greatly appreciated! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Oh yeah....almost forgot....I put back in the original Deck Gun Loading file (data\Library\GUNS_SUB.sim) replacing the RB1.42 file.....I just found it too painful waiting so long for the deck gun to reload, and in doing a little research seems that 2-3 sheels per minute COULD be loaded.....hopefully my edits to the data/Cfg/Sim file will work
