I feel like I'm treading on dangerous waters here buuuuuuuut...

Mine would have to be the F4. It really shines brightest compared to other variants. I flew around in a G6 A/S for awhile and just coulnd't take it (although flying against the AI Spit+25lbs. didn't help), not to mention an engine that's so much more sensitive to overheating.

The F4 might not have the water/methanol boost and top speed but I still like it's acceleration.

109G-6 for me. I've gotten my most kills in it, but more than that, it's the most survivable 109 I've flown with. Sometimes maneuverability just isn't enough.

dont panic if you get an overheat message in the Bf109 - the engine gets damaged not before 5min are over in overhat.
so you can at least fly in overheat for 4 minutes, can be long time in combat. and than is still enough time to cool it down.

flying MW50 109s with MW50 enabled, 103%power , cooler open. and it no overheat (sure , only till the MW50 is emtpy after 26 minutes http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )..............

i fly the Bf109 that fits in the time frame of the mission - thats it for me..........

I often fly the Spit against the AI Bf109 and find the AI F4 to be the best (though I still beat it everytime). AI G6 just seems too sluggish. Not sure how it handles though when flown by a human opponent.

In terms of performance, it's widely published that the F series were the favourite and the best among German pilots when compared to all other series, including the later G variants.

Can't decide between F4 in 41 or G2 in 42. They both leave the opponents in dust (luckily 190A4 is on the same side http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif)

Me109g6/Late.

Equipped with great Erla Haube canopy, better performing than the G6,fittable with heavy armament for the right assignment.

Generally the opposition it has to face in that period requires skills to be succesful in this plane.G2 fans don`t stay alive very long.

My favourites are the G2, due to its agility, speed and climb, and the G10, due to the armament, redesigned engine cowling, better canopy visibility and the boosted engine.

I generally prefer American planes in this game, but the Bf-109 is my favourite fighter - mean-looking, agile, great climber, great turner (IMO), great performance even at high altitudes. I like all variants, basically.

The variant I like the least is the F2, due to its relatively light armament. I leave it to sharpshooters.

For me, a tie between the BF-109F-2 (that's right, F-2, not F-4) and the B-109G-6 A/S.

I like the F-2 because of it's maneuvrability, speed and acceleration and the fact that it feels light. The weapons are a bit weak, but upclose, they do a lot of damage: and I sorta like to do an Erich Hartmann on my opponents. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

The G-6 A/S is decent. I find it fairly maneuvrable and when equipped with the MK-108, it's a total badass. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

The E-Series are also ok, but I find them a bit sluggish sometimes. The G-10/G-14 and K-4 are ok, but really nose heavy. But against bombers and less capable fighters, they're awesome.

109F4, no plane is as good in 1941

109G2 is nice too.

Emil is nice in 1940.

I am not so keen on the later marks, FW190 is preferable from 1942 on I think.

Unless you HAVE to dogfight (say the enemy is swarming your base and you cant get altitude) in which case I would take a 109.

the problem is, when i'm flying a g6, i always kinda wish it was a g2... I know the g6 has more surivability, and in the real world this would probally mean alot more to me. But the g2 is just so beautiful to fly, it does pretty much anything you ask of it. Its one of my favorite rides in the game just to mess about in offline. I used to really like the g10 upto patch 3.04, but when they changed the 108's in 4 i think, i stopped flying the late 109's apart from a bit in the g6/as as it has mg151.

of course, if you are going after bombers then its a different story...

Didnt know of any extra armour - I always though the 100kg extra weight was due to the changed radio equipment, larger/heavier main wheels, the modified wings (to accomodate the bigger wheels), the heavier locked down tail wheel and the bigger/heavier MG131s...

Did it get a thicker armour plate behind the pilot or something?

Differences between 109 G-2 and G-6
"The differences between the G2 and G6 were small. It was the armament, just nothing else. The engine was the same. The G6 had better armament and the undercarriage was stronger and wheels wider, else the difference with G2 was small. The larger wheels resulted in bulges on the top of the wing.
- The G2 also had the wing bulges due to wheels. They extended half the wheel width from the wing surface. Did those bulges affect flying characteristics?
The bulges on the nose had a bigger effect on air resistance, they were quite large and no way beautiful. There were bulges in the wings of the previous models before the G6 was introduced. "

E4 original il2 game is the best. That's why I still fly the game each week. Try this, on the ground, full right rudder, full right brake, give it a power blast. The plane will spin around 180 degrees, on a dime. Or try a landing, applying full brakes on touch down, no tendency to flip over at all. That's the way they should behave, as reported by those that flew them. Add in the terrific engine sound's, and flight model, it's just a great aircraft to fly. An extenshion of your own body, it is really a pleasure to fly.
I hope that Oleg and crew can bring back some of this for BOB

For me I like the F-4 the most as it falls into my preferred time frame for fighting .
In saying that I feel the best as modled is the G-2 I just cant stand that piece of Armour plate and the way it stops my rearward vis.

My attitude is if you cant see whats behind you how do you avoid it. I would rather back my evasion abilities rather than a bit of armour plate.

Now if I could get my ground crew to remove that plate then the G-2 would be the most stand out plane in respect to its time frame bar none ......in my opinion.

As far as online goes, is it better to take a plane that matches the same time frame as what you are up against, or can I get away with choosing an earlier model like Emil or Friedrich without getting owned?
