We will get more varients than we have now, so technically we'll get several Ju-88s. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

We'll have 2 or 3 A varients and a C varient, I believe. I really like the looks of the BMW-engined Ju-88s, but unfortunately I don't think we're getting any of those.

Actually, we "should" be getting 5 variants of the Ju 88A & 2 variants of the C, so 7 total!

A-4 "Early"
A-4 "Late"
A-13
A-14
A-17
C-6a
C-6a "Field Mod"

Yes, that is too bad about the Ju 188E....

First of all, IMHO, even though the Ju 88 is a really elegant airplane, the 188 has it covered in the looks department.

Then, definately better defensive armenment, even if it was still sowewhat deficient. ie. the one HDL151/20 turret operator had to man both the turret and the single mount MG131 just below it.....Ju 188 had about the same number of gun as the Ju 88A, but the 2 MG151/20 and the 2 MG131 Heavy machine gun packed a lot more punch than the 3 or 4 rifle caliber MG15 7.92mm.

Ju 188E was about 10-20 MPH faster than Ju 88A, while the JU 188A was about 25-35 MPH faster than Ju 88A.

So, all in all, the Ju 188 was prettier (IMO), slightly faster and had somewhat better defensive weaponry than the older Ju 88.

Thanks for the clarification. I had forgotten about the A-13 and that the A-4 had been divided into "Early" and "Late".

Some clarifications as to the variants we are getting:

Ju 88A-4 "early": The early variant will have, the Lotfe 7c, divebrakes and and older cockpit instruments.

Ju 88A-4 "late": Newer instruments and dive bombing sight & divebrakes removed.

Ju 88A-13: This version was based on the Ju 88A-4, and was optimised for the low-level ground attack role. It had the dive-brakes and bomb-sight removed, additional armor for crew and engines and fuel, provisions for a disposable load of 1,102 lb (500 kg) of fragmentation bomblets - ie 720 SD-2 , and fixed forward-firing armament provided in the form of up to 4 WB81 (3 X MG81Z each) pods underwing hardpoints. http://home.t-online.de/home/luftarchiv/waffen/wb81z.jpg

Ju 88A-14: The A-14 is a special version of the A-4 with ballon cutters and a flexible mount MG FF 20mm canon installed in the front.

Ju 88A-17: The A-17 is a special version of the A-4 with two torpedo racks under the wings and without lower gondola.

Ju 88C-6a: Ju 88 C-6 is a "day" heavy fighter/heavy zerstorer variant of the Ju 88 A-4. It nose fixed has armament of 3 X 7.92mm machineguns, 3 X 20mm MG/FF cannons (2 in lower front gondola) and 10 SC-50 bombs. Ju 88 C-6 served in all theaters of war where Luftwaffe fought, and it did fight in many roles too. The "a" although not official is used to differenciate the "day" heavy fighter/heavy zerstorer variant of the C-6 as compared to the night fighting variant which are referred to as "C-6b" using this nomenclature.

Ju 88C-6a "Field Mod": The "Field mod" of the Ju 88C-6a version had the ventral gondola removed for additional speed. ie. less drag and lower weight. However, it did lose the 2 MG FF that were installed in the gondola. Fixed forward firing armement therefore reduced to 3 X 7.92mm and only one MG FF 20mm.

Cheers,

Jagd

BTW, the WB81 container shot on the prior post is the installation mounted on the Ju 87D, not the Ju 88 but I just posted it for show. The Ju 88A-13 had up to 4 of those mounted on the wings.

Pingu, here is a good shot of the Ju 188 top-rear defensive armement, in this case the electric turret is mounting an MG151/15 instead of MG151/20:

http://home.t-online.de/home/luftarchiv/waffen/mg17_131_ju188.jpg

Apparantly, as with the Do 217s, it was not always the case to been able to have the 2 positions manned simultaneously, but someone else can elaborate on that more if they have info.

Ju 88S was indeed fast and we almost had a variant in FB/AEP/PF until the Ju 88 guys, Jippo-Dietger-Flakster-squirrel ran out of time, steam and modelling material. BTW, thanks much for what we are getting guys!!!

And YES, it would be fantastic if we could have a Ju 188 at least AI for late war LW.

I would like to see Ju88. Long awaited. Gee, I don't know if I wait for any a/c long as for Ju88. And yet it remains unclear why it hasn't been introduced in one of the previous patches, because AFAIK it is finished.

About Ju188, would be nice indeed, but considering Ju88 situation, I'm afraid it is hopeless to expect it's appearance in game.

ju188 top turret has a flat slab on 1 side, that a opticaly flat thing for naviagition? starshots etc http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

i remmber reading that ju87 could have gunpods which fired straight ahead, and like u show, angled down http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

jippo said that straight ones not used on ju88 tho http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

i think the he111 h6 has that gun, its automatic tho, so useless http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

BTW, we are not getting a Ju 88C-4. The Ju 88A-13 we are getting has at least 24 X 7.92mm (4 X 6), but those are firing down at a slight angle, in a way similar to the 37mm cannon Bf 110G-2 we had a while ago - therefore could hardly be used in Air-to-Air combat. The C-4 armement was all firing straigt ahead as it was a heavy fighter/Zerstorer variant of the Ju 88.

There was basically 2 variants of those WB81 pods (A & B I think). One with straight MGs, and one variant with the MGs angled down as per the Ju 87D-4 pic on page one of this thread.

There was also a similar WB151, with that particular pod having 2 of the MG151 20mm cannons each.

Well, I know by talking to Jippo that he forward to Oleg very much detailed loadout/Rüstsatz/Rüstzustand for the 7 variants of Ju 88 that Jippo's team modelled. Therefore, this may explain the time it is taking to get those aircraft flyable in the game.

There are also some ordinance that we do not have in the game currently, (ie. for instance the PC1400) ie. Ju 88A-4 had a 2 X PC1400 load in its possible typical loadout. This again may explain the delay as they need to model some more ordinance to make it to Oleg's standards of historical accuracy.

Cheers,

Jagd

Cheers,

Jagd

hope we get the straight firing ones anyhow http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

No.

However, there was some prototypes Dornier Do 217s with 2 X MG81 in the back of each of the engine nacelles fixed sighted with periscope.....similar setup as the 4 X MG81s in the tail cone (R23 rustsatze), but in addition to....so therefore..total 8 X MG81 fixed rear-firing sighter by periscope

Nothing production as far as I can recall.
