It's a lot of fun, especially against a flight of AI Blenheims. Has a great feel in TrackIR.

THe 1-16 is quickly becoming one of my top 5 planes to fly. While I would prefer something heavier than what's offered with the two versions in the game, it does work well at downing planes... Provided you hit something critical...

How could anyone not love the Flash Gordan plane in FB? Even after it got neutered by whiners it is still one of the best aircraft going in the game.

I'm a pilot http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif and it seems to me to be the closest of all the planes in FB to the actual experience of flying. I'm not entirely sure why that is. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif Several factors involved though, I'm sure. It all came together great on that one though, didn't it! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I cant really compare at the time because I recently purchased the game(about a month ago) and havent tinkered with it at all. I started a Russian campaign and I've flown nothing but the I 16 since I've bought the game. I'm all about monotony LOL!!! Maybe I should try out some of the other aircraft huh? Maybe oneday.

For me it's still the best ride in FB.

In the 'not-so-old' IL2 days it was funny to read all those 'uber' debates about La-5 vs FW-190. It took a long time for whiners to discover that the Mosca was by far the most Uber of all http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
And then, as Clint says, they tried to kill it, but it's still a jolly good little ride.

Thing is that I've heard rumours that the J8A will out-turn the Mosca... A new king? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Only recently discovered the I-16 but it's an amazing plane, lethal to people who underestimate it. Up there with all the late war fighters.
The I-16 makes me feel dirty and I love it! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif

(I think you need a good stick to get the most out of it though, that or a very steady hand)

Bump! The little Mosca deserves it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Having got here after years of flying biplanes in iMagics' Dawn of Aces I just love the Polikarpovs and their open cockpits. That Mosca's a tough little cookie and real fun to fly....definitely my favourite. The Chaika's up there too for me http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I love the I16. As I`ve said before, its got great character. And as Clint-Ruin has said, even neutered by the Luftys who absolutely hate it, I still find it a joy to fly. It still throws a raspberry at the Luftwaffe!

I'm exactly in the same situation, but I fly with I-153 too. I enjoy fighting against Ju-52 (sorry, but I'm completely noobie) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

I guess I-16 is not the best plane to begin, but I started this game as a Russian pilot and I would like to take planes in chronological order (first early war planes). http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif

wel... if you look at my "name", then you'll see that i'm a complete I16fan! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I like flying the I-16 but it is not my primary mount (which is an early version of the Sturmovik by the way)

The I-16 is a fun plane to fly and as SeaFireLIV says it has great character. Apart from the I-153 this is one of the most agile aircraft of the early war period, pity about its low top speed.

Still, with its armament and agility it can be a force to reckoned with - 109 pilots beware http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif

Used to fly it all the time in original Il-2, could out-turn almost everything and get on a six in no time, and once there it couldn't be shaken until you had bagged your prey http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif

Then came negative-G stalls OMG!

I left it in the hangar... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I think I may return to it though http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I only have the original version of IL-2. Am I reading these posts right that the I-16 was somehow neutered in Forgotten Battles? That's a shame! What was done to it?

02-22-2004, 06:13 PM
Ok, Emitton, think of flying then diving sharply, then think of engine conking out. That`s not so bad...

But now imagine a flying eggshell. That`s how tough the I16 is... in other words DON`T GET HIT!
